STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

“We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish ourselves to be,
we have the power to make ourselves. If what we are now has been the
result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to
be in future can be produced by our present actions; so we have to know
how to act.”- Swami Vivekananda.

The enriching thought highlighted by Swamiji has definitely touched a

youngster like me. Today I have rolled my dreams into thoughts and the
journey has begun.

In spite of belonging to a middle class family, I, Ms Oyeeshi Ghosh, have

always dreamt of a luxurious life ,serving my family in the best possible
ways and have yearned to become a globe trotter. I have always pondered
over various means to achieve my goal, which appeared to be unattainable
to many of my family members. But I never stopped dreaming.
As a person I’m hard working, sincere energetic, cheerful and confident,
but at times I find myself confused, restless and frivolous by nature.

I had been passionate about sports like cricket since my childhood. But
because of my higher studies I had to give it up. The way our academic
curriculum is structured, it sometimes becomes extremely difficult to
pursue our passion and give it a concrete shape. I failed, therefore, to
transform my passion into profession. Then I tried my hands in Fine Arts.
In my leisure hours I used to experiment with a lot of colours in every form
of art. Art is a reflection of one’s soul. Music and dance have also been an
integral part of my life. Later, when my board exams got over that I asked
myself, what I had achieved in a day, probably I had no answers to it. I
started spending time with my dad in office during the holidays after
boards. I soon realized…THERE HAS TO BE A START FROM A CERTAIN
POINT.I started taking interest in the fields of business. The way the
people used to work in the fields of accounts, sales and marketing,
distribution etc. in a small organization really used to amaze me after
seeing the divisions of work ,operations and the multi-tasking involved in
it.

Slowly, I found my interest in the fields of commerce and business and

thus I pursued my graduation in Bachelors of Business Administration
where I dealt with many subjects ,through which I have gathered some
knowledge about various subjects like psychology, human society, law,
marketing etc. which in three years I didn’t find to be monotonous. Out of
these subjects I have found Marketing to be the most interesting one.
Marketing as a subject is broad with many divisions like branding,
advertisement, sales ,operations and distribution. Its a mixture of varied
proportions of the mentioned departments. It is indispensable for the
liberalization of the economy and for the expansion of the consumers
choice. An insight, imagination and creativity are needed to structure a
constant growth in the economy. A career in Marketing would give me an
opportunity to work across boundaries of industry definitions with a
number of industries ranging from consumer goods to innovative
communication and high tech markets .
We did projects on the brands like Nestle Products, market research on
anti tobacco campaign which inculcated more enthusiasm in me to deal
with the subject. I want to turn it into a dynamic instrument, use it to feel
the pulse of the market, make probabilistic predictions abut the market
through sophisticated tools and ultimately get involved in product
innovation , strategic planning and selling products and services according
to the buyers market.

For three months I did my internship in a human resources solution based

firm which dealt with recruiting candidates to different companies. I used
to give presentations to many HR professionals pan India. Till now I
showed my interest in the concerned subject. But when I actually barged
into the field I could get the essence of the enormous canopy of Marketing
and could realize how immensely I have to brush up myself as an
individual and professionally too. An updated knowledge of the business
scenario worldwide, attributes like patience, presence of mind, vision,
optimism etc. are immensely needed.

I possess a basketful of management education. But, in order to attain

what I am aiming for, I believe that I require a sharply defined and focused
course in marketing . The expertise to analyze the marketing as well as the
strategic problems faced by companies and implement corresponding
solutions is what I want. An international exposure coupled with the
immense opportunity in the Indian marketplace will help in channelising
grounds to enhance Indian as well as international markets.
I have chosen United Kingdom as the gateway of my career because I
always yearned to be among hearts of this huge nation. The scenic
beauties, the people and as a society it is very promising for an individual.
Moreover the structure of the system of education is more flexible in
nature. I want to attend University of Marketing programme primarily to
make my foundation strong and then complete its Masters degree for
proper grilling. The focused structure of the course will help me
concentrate and work towards the attainment of my career goals. The
internship provided within the marketing course would help me gain
exposure, insight, knowledge and hands-on experience with real time work
environment. Thus after my graduation I started my career from an ad
agency named as ASP(Advertisement Sales and Promotion Co.Ltd)one of
the listed companies of Bengal Of Chamber And Commerce where I was
getting immense opportunities to explore myself in the fields of Creative
Department as well as in Client-servicing Department.Since my core area
is marketing I shifted to another medium sized agency known as Biggboxx
Advertising And Media as a Business Executive.I could nurture more with
the subject practically.

The quality of education provided by the university in terms of the well-

structured curriculum and the recognized faculty are well perceived
through the news and events. I look forward to shaping my career in the
halls of University of and if I’m fortunate enough it will be an honour to be
a part of this reputed institution. My thoughts will ultimately be led into
actions. Iam ready to submit myself as a responsible citizen to serve a
country like United Kingdom as well as my nation, India for what I’m
today.
