Deily News

Dear Friends,
One of the greatest stories I have recently from our congregation is one about persistence in
Christ’s hope that comes from one of our youngest members, Noelle Aschenbach.
Most of you recall the joyful experience we had in celebrating the sacrament of Holy
Baptism with Noelle on April 25! While baptisms are always magnificent celebrations of God’s
love and grace in our lives, it is SO FUN when we have an older child baptized, as they are so
aware of and engaged in the sensory experiences! Noelle looked beautiful in her white dress and
her family stood by so proudly as the water was poured over her head and I declared the words,
“Noelle, I claim you for Christ! Your name is forever written in the book of life and on the palm of
God’s hand!” Walking around the church with her following the baptism was also a thrill, as the .03
fellow children formed a parade of welcome along with her!
While the day itself was grand, what you may not be aware of is the journey that Noelle
made to her baptismal day! It was one Sunday morning, not long ago, when Noelle approached me
just before worship in a VERY business like manner. She said she had something she would like to
discuss with me in my office following worship, please. I told her of course we could meet, and
asked what was on her mind? A bubble of happy emotion burst through her as she could barely
contain the words, “I want to be baptized!” Noelle broke into a big grin when I told her I’d love to
discuss baptism with her!
What Noelle didn’t know is that her Dad, Jeremy, had sent me an email the night before,
giving me the “heads up” that Noelle would be asking to discuss this with me! “She’s so excited!”
He said.

.05
I was a little surprised at the request! You see, when I had met with Jeremy and Tammy for
their pre-marital planning last year, they shared with me how much Noelle loved coming to
worship, how she adored the children’s sermon time in the service and would talk about things we
discussed. We talk about baptism quite often during children’s time, and they shared with me that
she desired to be baptized, but out of respect for the fact that Noelle’s mom was not religious, they

weren’t seeking to pursue baptism at this time, as they would never do

anything without full parental agreement. So I asked Jeremy if that meant
Noelle’s mom was on board. He told me Noelle would share that with me!
Indeed, I learned in our visit, not only had little Noelle received her
mother’s blessing for baptism but also her excitement about worship and
her faith in Christ were so infectious, that she and her mom began
attending a church together as well and have now become a part of a faith
community!
I was so encouraged and inspired in my own faith by Noelle’s Not Yet Ready For Divine
persistence in faith! She was simply so excited about the love of Christ in Time Players Present:
her life, that she persisted in asking to be baptized, even igniting new hearts “Borderline Crazies”
