Class Policies and Procedures:

1. Attendance & Tardiness- Students are expected to attend all classes and complete
all coursework prescribed by the instructor. Class attendance is counted from the
first scheduled class meeting regardless of when the student registers. If a student
is absent more than 15 percent of the class time, he/she will be dropped from the
class. Three tardies will be counted as one absence. A tardy is recorded if a student
enters the classroom after instruction begins or leaves during class time. Each
tardy in excess of three will count as an absence. It is the students responsibility to
monitor his/her class attendance to keep from being dropped from class (ICC
Student Guide, page 24).
2. Make-up Work- It is the students responsibility to notify the instructor when an
absence is necessary and to make arrangements for missed notes, assignments
and/or tests. These arrangements should be made prior to the absence when
possible. If arrangements are not made prior to the absence, the student is
responsible for meeting with the instructor upon returning to class to determine
what missed assignments and/or tests can be completed (ICC Student Guide, page
24). Typically, essay grades are reduced one letter-grade for each day the essay is
late.
3. Electronic Devices- Use of electronic devices in the classroom is prohibited
without consent of the instructor. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones,
Ipods, MP3 players and pagers. Students who use these devices without consent of
the instructor will be subject to disciplinary action by the appropriate dean (ICC
Student Guide, page 14).
4. Stay connected. Email is an important communication tool in this class, so check
your official ICC email frequently. You are responsible for assignments,
announcements, or other information that I send via email. Occasionally, hand-outs
or other materials will be posted in CANVAS, and your grades will also appear
there. Thus, it is important to frequently check CANVAS.

5. Come to class prepared to learn. Bring all appropriate materials (textbooks,
paper, pen, etc.) to class every day. Turn off your cell phone and other electronic
devices during class. Common courtesy in the classroom is expected and required
of you.
6. Help- If you have any questions or concerns about your writing or the class, please
make an appointment with me for a conference or email me with your questions
and concerns. Also, for extended help with your writing you can visit one of the
Writing Centers on campus. Click on the following link for more information:
7. Student Support Services- In accordance with section 504 of the Rehabilitation
Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), a student
with a documented disability may apply to the Office of Supportive and Disability
Services for accommodations. The OSDS on the Tupelo campus is located in the
Purvis Center, and the telephone numbers are 662.620.5136 or 662. 620.5303. On
the Fulton campus the OSDS is located on the second floor of the Student Services
Building, and the telephone number is 662.862.8256.
8. Academic Honesty Policy- Itawamba Community College is committed to
academic honesty and scholarly integrity. Cheating and plagiarism erode the
educational and social values of the College and deprive students of knowledge,
skills and character traits valued in the community. Cheating is the act of deception
by which a student misleadingly demonstrates that he/she has mastered
information or skills on an academic exercise. Cheating includes, but is not
necessarily limited to:
a. Submitting of work that is not the students own, including papers,
assignments or exams
b. Supplying or receiving in any way unauthorized information for the
preparation of a test, exam or assignment
c. Communicating during a test/exam with the intent of copying from or
supplying information to another student
d. Taking an exam with the aid of cheat sheets, notes or other unauthorized
assistance
e. Improperly using technology including copying or receiving information from
others, accessing computer files without authority and altering records.
f. Assisting any person committing an act of academic dishonesty.
Plagiarism is the representation of previously written, published or creative work as
ones own. Examples include, but are not limited to:
a. Representing any scholarly work of others, such as musical compositions,
computer programs and visual arts, as ones own.
b. Offering as ones own work the words, idea or arguments of other persons
without appropriate credit.
