Announcing a New HTC Curriculum

We have great news! We are pleased to announce that Harare Theological College will be working
with South African Theological Seminary (SATS) to offer Zimbabwean students an internationallyrecognised Bachelors Degree in Theology. This program will facilitate two tracks.
1. For students who need or want a Diploma in Theology to enrol in the Degree program, they will
be required to complete 20 courses at HTC followed by 20 courses with SATS. They will need to
complete all the courses (see next page) grouped under Diploma Level 1 and Diploma Level 2.
Once they have the Diploma they will be enrolled into SATS with 20 courses left to complete the
degree. Students who complete both HTC and SATS requirements will end up with both a Diploma
in Theology and a Degree in Theology.
2. For students who already qualify for entry into the Degree program1, they will need to complete
20 courses at HTC followed by 10 courses with SATS. The 20 courses taken at HTC will be made
up of the 10 courses listed at Certificate Level followed by any 10 courses of their choosing from
the Advanced Certificate Level. Current students who have not yet completed the Diploma but
are eligible for the Degree will receive full academic credit towards the Degree for courses already
completed. We have designed the new curriculum to give students as much flexibility as possible.
Students may now major in the languages, theology or counselling, depending on where their
interests lie. Given that this track is streamlined specifically for the degree, students in this
program will only be awarded the Bachelors Degree in Theology.

So starting next term we will be offering a weekly tutorial on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00pm for SATS
students who are working on their degrees. Our previous Diploma program required students to
complete 30 courses, but this has now been reduced to 20 courses following recommendations made
by the Higher Education Examinations Council (HEXCO). These changes are exciting because they
allow diligent students to complete a degree within 4 years studying part-time!
Of course, students are also welcome to study at HTC purely for the pleasure of learning or to work
towards a Basic Certificate or Advanced Certificate in Theology.

For admission into any first degree, an applicant must have the 5 O subjects, including English Language at
O level and at least 2 'A' Level passes or equivalent. As already stated above, a Diploma in Theology is
sufficient for entry into the Degree program.
