This mentors training conference and retreat will address pervasive problems
associated with youth incarceration, dropout recidivism, mental health issues,
negative behavior, and low academic achievement in elementary through high

and health practitioners, government officials, mentors, concerned citizens,
clergy, corporate executives, and parents who are interested in community
development; and to increase the opportunity to share information, ideas,
successes, and challenges relative to mentoring. The overall objective is to build a
new paradigm for improving the lives of young men in the areas of health,
education, adjudication, and employment. These are the four cornerstones of
mentoring.
Conference goals and objectives include the following:
Identifying and increasing the opportunities for education & employment
Provide a context for mentoring as a strategic element of coaching,
listening, and counseling
Explore pathways that adults can share as an approach to assisting,
guiding, training, & challenging youth as part of the maturation process
Learning new ways to mentor through improving their people skills,
being more empathetic to our youth, and sharing mentoring experiences.
The conference includes workshops, videos, nationally acclaimed speakers and
mentors, group discussions, best practices, case studies, networking, and the
opportunity for developing a mentors model that may be implemented throughout
Hampton Roads and everywhere! On Saturday morning, the conferences features
