Fast Food As A Reason of Obesity. Ladies and Gentlemen, companies in the food
industry is defining fast food as a type of food that is prepared and served very
quickly, normally preheated or precooked and served in a restaurant or a drivethrough. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, Obesity is defined as a
condition of abnormal or excessive fat accumulation in the body, to the extent that
health is impaired.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Obesity scarily means having too much body fat. Obesity occurs over time when one
eat more calories than one use. Obesity is just the beginning of a nightmare because
it increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and even cancers. Fast Food, ladies and
gentlemen, are undeniably one of the reasons of obesity.
My first point is; CONTENTS.
Food served at the famous fast-foods restaurant are mostly claimed to be served from
fresh ingredients; but horrifying facts shown that a burger of a well-known brand
actually contains more than 70 ingredients and even the patties allegedly consists of
restructured meat product which are supposed to be thrown away and not eaten.
Unfortunately, most people are unaware that feeding themselves and their families
fast-food meals is like feeding them a chemistry experiment, with all the artificial
and addictive flavors in the food. Apart from that, it is also excessively high in grains,
sugars and this is a evil recipe for obesity!
Allah SWT has made it compulsory for every Muslims to consume food that is
halalan toyyibban which means halal and of good quality with sufficient minerals and
vitamins as needed.

These two aspects will not only ensure physical health and alertness but will also be a
push factor that will help to increase the quality of taqwa and gratefulness towards
Allah SWT. This matter has been clearly mentioned in verse 168 of Surah AlBaqarah :

" O' mankind! eat of what is in the earth lawful and good...
Ladies and Gentlemen,
My second point is, FAST FOOD PORTION. Fast Food advertisements are
everywhere; on television, billboards and printed media. We are aware that most fast
foods are served in a huge portion, with low price to attract unsuspecting customers.
We think Pay Less, Eat More...Why Not? Before you walk into the restaurant,
picture this ladies and gentlemen;
A standard burger has 670 calories and 40 gram of fat. Now lets throw in the sides;
Medium French fries: 380 calories and 19 gram of fat. And dont forget the drinks:
Large Carbonated Drink with 540 calories and 8 gram of fat. Ladies and gentlemen,
these foods are highly processed, full of fat, calories and sodium.
You could easily take in 1,500 calories from just one fast food meal which is suppose
to be your DAILY intake of three meals! Keep in mind that a general calorie
recommendation is 1,500-1,800 calories per-day and NOT PER MEAL. Choosing
a typical fast food meal too often can lead to increased calories which can lead to
obesity.

Surah Al-Araf verse 31 clearly tells us that Allah does not like those who commit
excess in eating. Islam prohibits over-eating because the stomach is one of those
bodily organs that is largely unstable when there is over-eating and will cause
ailments.
