Linking Lives With God and Others

New Video Series

beginning April 3rd
at FBC!

When is the last time you thought about the

state of your soul? The health of your soul isn't
just a matter of saved or unsaved. It's the hinge
on which the rest of your life hangs. It's the
difference between deep, satisfied spirituality
and a restless, dispassionate faith.
Starting April 3rd on Sunday evenings we will
begin a 6 week video series on Soul Keeping,
narrated by John Ortberg, senior pastor at
Menlo Park Presbyterian Church. In this study
he helps Christians
rediscover their
soulthe best
connection to God there isand find out why its hurting, and
why neglecting it has set so many believers back spiritually.
Ortberg will deal with the following topics: What Is the Soul?;
What the Soul Needs; The Struggle of the Soul; The Practice of
Grace; The Practice of Gratitude and The Practice of Growth.
Dates will be April 3, 10, 17 and May 1, 15, 22.
You will not want to miss this series Sunday nights at 5pm in
the CLC.

Message from Dr. Saul:

Recently I saw an article entitled Stewards of the Kingdom:
The Basics of Biblical Stewardship. It was a well written article;
I had no problem with it. The thing that caused me to pause
and think was the terms themselves; stewards or
stewardship. My guess is that you would have to be a long
term church goer to understand the meaning of steward or
stewardship the way it is used religiously.
In common parlance the term steward has several different
means. It can refer to a person in charge of an event or a place.
For example, he is a race steward. A steward can also refer to
a person who is responsible for food or drink at a restaurant or
a cruise ship. Remember when we used to have stewardesses on airplanes?
Do we need a new term for stewardship?
I recently read an article about Rafael Johnson who after his career in the US Army became
a caretaker for Arlington National Cemetery. He takes great pride in the position and it is a
huge task. Caretakers are responsible for setting up gravesites used for funeral and memorial services, including setting up chairs and shelters, excavating graves and cleaning around
the graves. "When loved ones and guests come to Arlington we make sure that there is no
dirt on the walkways, the tombs are cleaned every day, that the grass is cut for loved ones
to be by their buried and that the John F. Kennedy gravesite is prepared for people to see,"
said Johnson.
I thought thats not a bad term for a believer and their responsibilities in Gods Kingdom.
We are caretakers of all that God has entrusted to us: the gospel, the resources of the
earth, our personal resources, the precious lives around us, our time and opportunities
for service. As caretakers we are reminded that the ownership of all these things belongs
to God. Our caretaking is on display every day to people both inside and outside of the
church. We need to make sure that what they see and hear leaves a positive impression
about the One whom we claim to serve (no trash talking, no anger, no greed, no selfishness, you get what I mean). Instead our caretaking should reflect love, generosity, gratitude, peace, hope and forgiveness.

If a person gets his attitude

toward money straight, it will
help straighten out almost
every other area in his life.

GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP

TO BEGIN
A new six-week Grief Support Group
will begin on Thursday, April 7, and
conclude on May 12. Each weekly
session is scheduled to begin at 1:00 and finish by 2:30 p.m.
The intent of the group is to provide help and support for
those who have experienced the loss of a loved one or who
are experiencing another type of significant loss.
Participants will have the opportunity to share regarding
their own personal loss, to understand some of the dynamics and effects of grief on a persons life, how ones faith can
be a source of strength during this time, as well as some
thoughts about how one can begin to cope and re-adjust to
life following such a significant loss.
If you have participated in another or previous Grief Group,
you are invited to participate in this group as well. As time
passes following a loss, a persons needs and capacity to
benefit from the group changes. So, if you are struggling in
working through your grief, feel free to participate in this
group as well. For more information, contact Ron Hornecker at 623-628-3796 or e-mail him at 2rhornecker@cox.net.
