Manual for preparation and transfer of graphic sources

Page 2

Foreword
This Manual for the preparation and transfer of the graphic sources to FIOMO and further processing of the
graphic data in FIOMO is based and in accordance with the international standard ISO 12647.

This Manual based on the above mentioned ISO standard shall secure:
A professional and fully intelligible description of the procedure for the preparation and transfer of
graphic sources to FIOMO

Standardization of inputs (graphic sources) and outputs (high quality prints)

A possibility to calibrate properly equipments in the whole chain and to secure a backward control
Prevention of time losses and misunderstandings
Greater flexibility and financial savings throughout the whole chain
(customer design agency repro print)

Recommendation
Within the preparation process of new designs, or design changes, we recommend sending a draft of the
graphic designs/data for a pre-print assessment to FIOMO.
Pre-print assessments, consultations and recommendations are provided by FIOMO free of charge within
the framework of our customer services.
Incorporation of FIOMOs recommendations into designs/data improves the quality and stability of the
subsequent print.

with the relevant profile (see above) (all control parameters
passed). Checksum Profile (identification code of the
profile in brackets) has to be visible on the proof so its
possible to verify the correctness of the profile used
and its version. We recommend keeping the original
profile name as it is issued by FIOMO.

Together with the graphic data it is necessary to send a verified proof printed out from the transferred
data.
Preferred type of proof: GMG colour proof.
Note: Please consult the choice of the right profile with a FIOMOs representative.

TONAL RANGES
Minimum / Maximum percentage (1 colour channel):

CMY + PANTONE: 3 %100 %;

K: 0 %70 %
Extract (colour separation) K: 0%-70%, in
some specific cases K 3-70% (see below).
100% Kmay be used for texts and flat areas.
In case of any doubts please get in contact
with a FIOMOs representative in the preprint stage.
Extract (colour separation) of Kcannot, like other extracts, end in the flat areas or in colour transition
areas.

Its possible to take Kdown to 0% in images.

The ending of the Kin this case shall be hidden in a very dark part of the image near some
optic edge determined by the picture.
Should the extract of Kbe long so that some percentage reach up to brighter or flat areas, the
K must be substituted by other extracts (C,M,Y).
If, in such areas, it is not possible to substitute K completely, it must be kept in the minimum of 3%.

In brighter areas, K should be substitude by other extracts (C,M,Y)

If its not possible to substitute K completely, it must be kept in the minimum of 3%.

It is necessary to check the keeping of the minimum of 3% (including K) in an appropriate application:

Viewer in Illustrator or Viewer in Automation Engine Pilot.

Checking in the Photoshop only is not possible because this software shows only whole numbers
(percentages) and rounds the numbers up.
Maximum sum of all colours in the register (TAC limit):
300%
Maximum sum of CMYK coverage in register of images:
CMYK 300 % from which black
is maximum of 70 %
Note: We recommend to underlay 100% black areas with:
40 % Cyan (CMYK composition: 40-0-0-100) = cold black
40 % Magenty (CMYK composition: 0-40-0-100) = warm black
In any other specific cases please consult the underlaying of black with FiOMOs representative.

RECOMMENDED PLACEMENT OF THE EYEMARK

Due to the fact that the print is carried out from printing plates please do NOT place a positive eyemark
in the design cutt area (splitting the eyemark between 2 design figures). The recommended placement
of the positive eyemark is anywhere in the design in its full width.
There is no limitation in case of the placement of a negative eyemark.

SPOT COLOURS
Spot colours and their names in the transferred graphic sources must correspond to colours in
accordance with the valid Pantone Plus Series 2014 coated or Pantone Plus Series 2014 uncoated
guides.
The spot colours are only simulated on the digital proofs with a smaller or larger deviations (depending
on the colour composition of every specific spot colour).
This is valid not only for the 100% spot colour areas but also for areas in which the spot colours are
in raster with other colours the deviations in such cases are even more significant. Due to the above
mentioned the digital proof cannot be used as the final binding colour base for the print for the areas
in which spot colours are used. The 100% spot colour areas are determined for the print with the use
of one of the above mentioned PANTONE guides. In the case of areas in which the spot colours are
in raster with other colours it is necessary that the customers or their representativen is present and
approves the printed design directly at the print.

EAN CODE SPECIFICATION

Size:
min. 80 % max. 200 %
Compensation/reduction:
15 microns (= 0,015 mm)
It is necessary to enlarge the safety zone by 0,5 mm on both sides (left and right) of the EAN code. The
outcome width will thus be as follows:
min. 80 % = 30,83 mm
max. 200 % = 75,58 mm
Note: The EAN code must be printed with only one dark colour (but not red).

Requested formats and data transmission

ACCEPTED DATA FORMATS
Data formats:
Version:
Colour space:

*.ai, *.psd, *.ap

Adobe CS2-CS6, ArtPro 12.1.1
ISO Coated V2300 % (ECI), CMYK + Pantone (ISO 12647-2:2004)

Note: All images (links) and fonts used in the design must be transferred together with the data. PSD files must
be stored with maximum compatibility in individual (unmerged) layers. Links in the JPEG format must be stored
with lossless compression, or without compression.

TRANSFER OF GRAPHIC SOURCES

Preferred media:
Other requests:

FTP (DVD, CD)

Together with the data it is always necessary to send a certified passed
proof created from the transferred data. The preferred type of proofs:
GMG colour proofs (EFI, ESKO).

PRE-PRINT ASSESSMENT
Before the transfer of the final graphic data, we highly recommend to send to FIOMO a PDF/X-4:2008
(CMYK) file of the design/s for a pre-print assessment. The output of FIOMOs pre-print data
assessment are technological recommendations. The incorporation of these recommendations results
in a better printing output (an increased printing quality, stability, a minimization of misregistration
issues etc.).
Note: The entire pre-print preparation and print process in FIOMO is based and in accordance with the
international ISO 12647-2:2004 standard.
