Valve World Asia Conference & Exhibition 2007

The leading global educational and networking event for
flow control professionals!
The Valve World Asia 2007 Conference & Expo will be held in Shanghai International Convention & Exhibition Center, China on
17 and 18 October 2007. Following on to the huge success of past Valve World Conferences and Expos, the Valve World Asia
2007 Conference & Expo promises to be a valuable meeting point for valve professionals from all over the world with a special
emphasis on recent developments in China. Piping and valve professionals from West & East can update their knowledge of
valve applications in a variety of industries with a clear focus on the chemical, petrochemical, power generation, oil & gas and
process industries. The conference will be bi-lingual and all presentations will be simultaneously translated in Chinese and
English. The combination of a content-focused, end-user driven conference, a social programme, plant tours and a hands-on
exhibition will offer a unique international platform for content and business.

Valve World Asia Conference 2007

The Valve World Asia Conference 2007 Steering Committee will be chaired by Mr Zhang Ji Hong, SINOPEC Zhenghai Refinery,
China and Co Chaired by Mr Ralph -Harry Klaer, Bayer, Germany who would both like to encourage you to participate at this
event. As China increasingly becomes a key player both in terms of valve production and consumption, valve professionals
world-wide are looking for a thorough exchange of technical and commercial information. The Conference is therefore the
ideal platform for end users, engineering companies, manufacturers and distributors to discuss and debate the potential of the
Chinese market.

Jan Damhof 2007

Damhof who said: A few years ago, the valve industry seemed fairly simple and uncomplicated. Steel prices were flat, supply and

Damhof

demand were balanced and the relationships between customers and suppliers were straightforward. But all that has changed. One

of the reasons for this development is the imbalance between supply and demand and speculation on the metal markets, which

have resulted in high steel prices. These high prices have forced the valve manufacturers to cut their costs. At the same time high
energy prices have driven up investments; in particular, the number of projects in the refinery and energy sector has increased

enormously. Both pressure on costs and growing demand for valves are the most important developments.

The (western) valve industry has reacted by outsourcing the manufacturing of valves and components but has not increased its own
capacity. And that is part of the problem. For example, there are many instances of moving production to countries like China. These
makes the supply chain highly opaque for the end user. At the same time there seems to be a trend to treat Maintenance, Repair,
Operations (MRO) as a nuisance. Neglecting MRO business by valve manufacturers suggests a lack of interest in the performance of

MRO
MRO

their own products. One of the consequences is an increasing amount of quality incidents. We even have to shut down plants.
A more extensive interview with Mr. Damhof you could find in the Valve World February 2007 edition. In the workshop, Mr. Damhof
will address the above mentioned issues with the goal to find answers how to tackle them.
