Course & Section: Comm130 section 6
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Apply the design principles and use
appropriate typography. Incorporate basic InDesign skills to
improve basic flier layout.

align everything. Some skills I learned throughout this activity
include the ability to create shapes, and using the fitting attribute on images to fill the content box.

Create a full-bleed design. Choose a color scheme and
typeface(s) that work for your message and audience. Learn

those colors, then incorporate the colors into the layout.Use
a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it.
Adjust image levels, saturation, color balance, sharpen tool
on separate layers for NDE (non-destructive editing.) Use
layers to design text, and repeating graphic elements in
Photoshop.
Process: I took this picture on the outskirts of Rexburg, ID,
then put it into photoshop and added the text, logo, and
sound waves.

Business Card
Project 4

Description: This is a business card that I made for a piano

school named Alyssas Piano House
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: February 28th, 2016
Course & Section: Comm130 Section 6
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.
Create a new logo to fit a company or personal image.
Use the new logo to design consistent layouts for a business
card. Apply typography rules.
Keep designs simple with plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website,
and email.
Process: I used Ilustrator to create the logos and wanted to
have a lot of contrast between the text on the card and the
background, so I inserted them both in opposite colors.

Logos
Project 5

Description: This logo is for a piano school named Alyssas

Piano House
Programs: Adobe Illustrator
Date: February 28th, 2016
Course & Section: Comm 130 Section 6
Instructor: Joel Judkins
Objectives: Create three completely different, original logos to
fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the
audience. Refine one logo with variations for color
Process: I first drew a piano with the pen tool and created
the base of the logo. I used a capital letter A for the roof and
shaped the piano to compliment it. Lastly I added Alyssas
Piano House across the bottom.

Stationery

school named Alyssas Piano House

Objectives: Use the basic tools in Illustrator & InDesign.
Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed optional, but trim
only .125. Apply typography rules, keeping small copy.
Keep designs simple with light watermarks and drop shadows
and plenty of white space.
Include contact information: name, address, phone, website,

Process: I created this in Illustrator by inserting the logo image
in two different spots. First in the upper left hand corner, and
as a watermark on the body of the page. I then inserted my
contact information at the top right hand corner.

by a business named Art Works. All proceeds go to a chairty
of choice as explained in the brochure.

Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure. Trim for
a full bleed and print in duplex (two-sided) color.
Process: I used Adobe Illustrator to create the simple logo on
the back. I then used Adobe InDesign to create the Brochure.
I had to plan everything out before I started working in InDesign to make sure I had the right set up. After the many drafts
I inserted the images, lowered the opacity, and added the
text.

Montage
Project 9

Description: This is a montage of two different mirror images,

trying to symbolize self-worth.
Programs: Adobe Photoshop

together gradually, using masks. Demonstrate more advanced
Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elements. Use a mask
to apply a filter to one part of the image. Apply typography

Process: I used photoshop masks to insert the image on the
left over the original mirrored image. I used a black and white
filter on the left as well as a graffiti background to create a
more distressed feel on that side of the mirror.
