Leadership in the New WAF 2011

WORLD APOSTOLATE OF FATIMA OF THE

PHILIPPINES
A Public International Association of the Faithful
of Pontifical Right

Leadership in the New WAF

(To be given during the 2011 Council Meetings)

World Apostolate of Fatima of the Philippines

2. WAFs General Charisma:

The general charisma of this Marian
movement
(WAF)
is
the
New
Evangelization and formation of the
Laity, as asked by the Holy Father, Late
John Paul II, through the promotion and
living of the Message of Fatima throughout
the world.
(Messenger of The World Apostolate of Fatima,
Vol. 1 & 2 / 2007, p. 14)

I.

The New WAF:

1. WAF: Public International Association of

the Faithful of Pontifical Right:
The WAF is a Public International
Association of the Faithful of Pontifical
Right, established by the Holy See on
October 7, 2005 and made permanent five
(5) years later, i.e., on October 7, 2010.
Prof.
Americo
Pablo
Lopez-Ortiz,
International President, World Apostolate of
Fatima:
The World Apostolate of Fatima must
reflect on the profound significance of this
recent approval by the Holy Father,
Benedict XVI, as an international public
association of the faithful. This is a great
honor, but also, a great responsibility
toward the Church and the World. It is a
grace from heaven but also a burden to
assist Christ in carrying His Cross for the
salvation of humanity.
(Messenger of The World Apostolate of Fatima,
Vol. 1 & 2 / 2007, p. 1)

Take note of the keywords New

Evangelization and Formation of the
Laity:
The general charisma of the WAF is the
New Evangelization and formation of the
Laity through the promotion and living of
the Message of Fatima throughout the
world.
3. WAFs New Mission:
As a public association of the faithful,
the World Apostolate of Fatima has a new
mission:
to become a protagonist (leading role) in the
New Evangelization proposed by John Paul
II, the Great, and his successor, Benedict
XVI.
(Messenger of The World Apostolate of Fatima,
Vol. 1 & 2 / 2007, p. 1)

But our charisma gives us a marvelous

instrument to perform our mission:
The authentic Message of Fatima, an
echo of the Gospel designed precisely
for our time!
(Messenger of The World Apostolate of Fatima,
Vol. 1 & 2 / 2007, p. 1)

Always remember and act accordingly:

The emphasis is:

The WAF as a Public International

Association of the Faithful (PIAF) is:

The New Mission is for the WAF to become

a protagonist in the New Evangelization.

1)
2)
3)
4)

Protagonist means a person who takes

the lead; the leading character; an
advocate or champion of a cause.

A great honor,
A great responsibility,
A grace from heaven, and
A burden to assist Christ in saving souls.

Boyie Mansueto

The WAF is to take the initiative, the

leadership and not to become a mere
watcher or follower.

4. WAFs Top Priority:

Prof.
Americo
Pablo
Lopez-Ortiz,
International President, World Apostolate of
Fatima, further states:
The formation of leaders, lay people,
and families is our top priority.
(Messenger of The World Apostolate of Fatima,
Vol. 1 & 2 / 2007, p. 1)

National Constitution and Bylaws, World

Apostolate of Fatima of the Philippines:
The top priority of the World Apostolate
of Fatima is the formation of leaders, lay
people and families according to the ever
relevant and ever urgent Message of
Fatima.
(Section 3, Article II, WAF National
Constitution and Bylaws)

5. The WAFs Four Specific Purposes:

The purpose of the World Apostolate (of
Fatima) is:

II. The New Evangelization:

1. The Call for the New Evangelization:
Blessed Pope John Paul II:
The moment has come to commit all of the
Church's energies to a new evangelization
and to the mission ad gentes. No believer
in Christ, no institution of the Church can
avoid this supreme duty: to proclaim
Christ to all peoples." (Redemptoris Missio, 3)
2. Every Christian is obliged to evangelize,
to perform the New Evangelization:
Blessed Pope John Paul II:
No believer in Christ, no institution of
the Church can avoid this supreme duty:
to proclaim Christ to all peoples."
(Redemptoris Missio, 3)

Apostolicam Actuositatem (AA) 6:

(1) The

promotion of the authentic

teaching of the Catholic Church and
the strict adherence to the tenets of
the Gospel;

(2) The

personal
sanctification
of
adherents through faithful adherence
to the message of Fatima;

(3) The promotion of the common good

by the spreading of the message of
Fatima; and

(4) In addition to these three general

purposes, the World Apostolate has the
specific purpose of promoting the
Pledge given by each member of the
World Apostolate of Fatima.
The
World Apostolate of Fatima collaborates
with many other expressions of
devotion to Our Lady of Fatima,
manifested in various ways approved by
the Church.
(Section 1, Article II, WAF National
Constitution and Bylaws)

Boyie Mansueto

(Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity)

and in the hearts of all should the

apostles words find echo:
If I preach the gospel, this is no reason for
me to boast, for an obligation has been
imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not
preach it! (1 Corinthians 9:16)
Kay kon ako nagasangyaw sa Malipayong
Balita, dili kana maoy katarungan sa akong
pagpagarbo.
Kay kinahanglan nga ako
mobuhat niini. Pagkaalaut ko kon dili ko
isangyaw ang Malipayong Balita.
(1 Corinto 9:16)

3. All lay people are called to evangelize, to

focus on the New Evangelization:
CCC 905:
Lay people also fulfill their prophetic
mission by evangelization, that is, by the
proclamation of Christ by word and the
testimony of life.

Leadership in the New WAF 2011

World Apostolate of Fatima of the Philippines

PCP-II, 197:
Blessed Pope John Paul II:
A participative approach will lead Catholics
to realize that everyone needs to be
evangelized, and that everyone is called
by the faith to be an evangelizer.

"Missionary activity is a matter for all

Christians, for all dioceses, and parishes,
Church institutions and associations."
(Redemptoris Missio,71)

4. The New Evangelization always focuses

on the Lord Jesus Christ:
Blessed Pope John Paul II
("The Task of the Latin American Bishops", Origins [March
24, 1983] p. 659-62):
[Note: This speech may be the first time that Blessed Pope
John Paul II uses the term new evangelization.]

"Evangelization cannot be new in its

content since its very theme is always
the one gospel given in Jesus Christ."
Blessed Pope John Paul II:
"Evangelization will always contain
as the foundation, center and, at the same
time, the summit of its dynamism a
clear proclamation that, in Jesus Christ
salvation is offered to all men, as a gift of
God's grace and mercy.
"The new evangelization is not a matter of
merely
passing
on
doctrine
but
rather
of
a
personal
and
profound meeting with the Savior."
(Redemptoris Hominis. I)

5. What does Evangelization Mean?:

Blessed Pope John Paul II:
"I spoke explicitly of the Church's
permanent mission of bringing the
gospel to the multitudes. . . who as yet do
not know Christ. . . and of the
responsibility of the lay faithful in this
regard. The mission ad gentes is
incumbent upon the entire People of God. . .
missionary activity which is carried out in
a wide variety of ways, is the task of all
the Christian faithful."
(Redemptoris Missio,71)

Boyie Mansueto

Blessed Pope John Paul II helps us to

distinguish between those situations needing
primary evangelization (ad gentes), reevangelization, or pastoral care.
PCP-II, 104:
to evangelize, i.e, to proclaim the
Good News, to build up the Church, and
to serve the Kingdom by permeating the
world with Gospel values so that finally all
creation may be united in Christ as head
(Ephesians 1:10).
6. The New Evangelization must be
characterized with new fervor, new
methods and new expressions:
Blessed Pope John Paul II
("The Task of the Latin American Bishops", Origins [March
24, 1983] p. 661):

"Evangelization can be new in its ardor,

methods and expression."
The WAF must always possess new fervor,
use new methods and utilize new
expressions in fulfilling and spreading the
Message of Fatima.
7. The New Evangelization requires proper
leadership to succeed:
The New Evangelization
missionary spirituality, i.e.:
1)
2)
3)
4)
5)

demands

Having Intimate communion with Christ;

Possessing and employing the gifts of
fortitude and discernment;
Renouncing self and all his possessions;
Making himself everything to everyone;
Being filled with apostolic charity which
enables him to feel Christ's burning love
for souls, and love the Church as Christ
did.

In my view, the apparition of Our Lady

of Mount Carmel means total
consecration to God.

III. The Leadership Needed in the WAF:

(The Fatima Rosary, 1st Joyful Mystery Meditation, 6)

1. The New Evangelization demands gifted

and competent WAF Leaders:

2)

From the Developing Effective Leaders

(DEL) Seminar, we have learned:
a)

The success or failure of any

organization depends largely on its
leaders.

St. John Chrysostom:

If you are found worthy to perform
something that please God, do you
seek other recompense than this?

Therefore, we need WAF Leaders who

are gifted and competent in doing the
New Evangelization according to the
Message of Fatima.
b)

The personality and character traits of

the leader matters a lot, and these
depend on the given group and
situation, and

c)

Effective leaders have no universal

characteristics.

d)

However, certain traits such as

decisiveness and integrity are of
universal application.

2. Leadership is first being, then doing.

Everything a leader does reflects what he
really is:
A WAF Leader must be a person of
integrity, meaning, he is:
1)

Humble, because he knows his own self,

his strengths and weaknesses and
always strives to improve himself
(self-knowledge) and to totally depend
on God and Mama Mary for Our Ladys
intentions, for her greater honor and for
God greater glory (Self-surrender or
Total Consecration to Jesus through
Mary);
Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and of the
Immaculate Heart:

Delightful, because he is friendly,

sincere, open, honest, fair and
principled,
i.e.,
he
does
not
compromise his principles and beliefs
so as to remain pleasing to God and his
fellowmen.

(The Fatima Rosary, 1st Luminous Mystery Meditation, 8)

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori:

Blessed is he who labors only to
give glory to God and to follow his
holy will. Let us imitate the Blessed,
who, in loving God, seek only to
please him. (The Fatima Rosary, 1st Luminous
Mystery Meditation, 8)
3)

Mature, because he is a master of his

own self, a person of high character,
discipline and good example, and
desirable to be followed and imitated.
1 Corinthians 11:1
Be imitators of me, as I am of
Christ.

3. The New Evangelization primarily needs

Leaders of Holiness:
Blessed Pope John Paul II:
Holiness must be called a fundamental
presupposition and an irreplaceable
condition of everyone in fulfilling the
mission of salvation in the Church.
The universal call to holiness is closely
linked to the universal call to mission. Every
member of the faithful is called to
holiness and to mission."
(Redemptoris Missio, 88 Ad Gentes 24)

Boyie Mansueto

Leadership in the New WAF 2011

WAF is an Apostolate of Holiness,

and the Holy Spirit is the Sanctifier!
Note: The

World Apostolate of Fatima of the Philippines

If we do not try to become saints, it will

be difficult to sanctify others.
(The Fatima Rosary, 1st Sorrowful Mystery Meditation, 6)

Ephesians 5:18(b)
be filled with the Spirit.
Blessed James Alberione:
If he is devoted to Mary, he becomes
powerful in asking the outpouring of the
Holy Spirits gifts.
[Join the BLISS Seminar!]
(The Fatima Rosary, 3rd Glorious Mystery Meditation, 5)

Therefore, a Person of Integrity is a person

filled with the Spirit of Holiness: humble,
delightful and mature.
Luke 2:52
And Jesus advanced [in] wisdom and
age and favor before God and man.
Thats WAF: Wisdom, Age & Favor!
Holiness focuses on Virtues & Merits!

St. Mary Mazzarello:

Make up your mind to become a Saint.
(The Fatima Rosary, 4th Luminous Mystery Meditation, 7)

4. Leaders for the New Evangelization must

be completely occupied with Zeal for God
and Souls:
St. Joseph Cafasso:
The first characteristic of true zeal is
zealously to work for our own salvation
and sanctification.
(The Fatima Rosary, 3rd Glorious Mystery Meditation, 7)

Blessed Jacinta Marto:

If I could only put into the hearts of all,
the fire that is burning within my heart,
and that makes me love the Hearts of
Jesus and Mary so very much!
(The Fatima Rosary, 3rd Glorious Mystery Meditation, 7)

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori:

St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori:

Jesus came into the world, not only to

redeem us, but by his own example to teach
us all virtues, (and) especially humility and
holy poverty, which is inseparably united
with humility.

I love Jesus Christ. I burn, therefore,

with the desire to give him souls first
my own and then a great many others.

(The Fatima Rosary, 3rd Joyful Mystery Meditation, 4)

Again he tells you to acquire the riches,

not of the world, but of God of virtues
and merits, which are goods which shall
remain with you for eternity in heaven.
(The Fatima Rosary, 3rd Joyful Mystery Meditation, 4)

Strive to become Saints!

St. Francis of Assisi:
Sanctify yourselves first if you want to
sanctify society.
(The Fatima Rosary, 3rd Luminous Mystery Meditation, 5)

St. Joseph Cafasso:

Boyie Mansueto

(The Fatima Rosary, 3rd Glorious Mystery Meditation, 7)

Blessed Jacinta Marto:

Our Lady came to see us. She told us she
would come to take Francisco to heaven
very soon, and she asked me if I still
wanted to convert more sinners.
I said I did.
She told me I would be going to a hospital
where I would suffer a great deal; and that
I am to suffer for the conversion of
sinners, in reparation for the sins
committed against the Immaculate Heart
of Mary, and for love of Jesus.
(The Fatima Rosary, 3rd Sorrowful Mystery Meditation, 8)

Blessed Francisco Marto:

Leadership in the New WAF 2011

I would like to console Our Lord, and

after that, convert sinners so that they
wont offend him anymore.

5. Increase your desire for the fulfillment

and promotion of the Message of Fatima!
Anyone who desires to be elected a WAF
Officer
in
the
National,
Regional,
Arch/Diocesan, Vicarial or Chapter division
but
contents himself in doing the usual
activities in the same manner with the
same minimal results, and
does not offer more sacrifices and
bear greater sufferings to console Our
Lord and to save souls,
has no place in the EXCOM, Regional
Board, EXECOM, Vicarial Directorate, or
Chapter Board of the World Apostolate of
Fatima.
Beware of Mediocrity!
Revelation 3: 16
So, because you are lukewarm, neither
hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my
mouth.
Suffering: the Mark of the True Apostle!
Blessed James Alberione:
Suffering is the apostolate which
distinguishes the true apostle from the
apostle in name only.
(The Fatima Rosary, 4th Sorrowful Mystery Meditation, 2)

St. Athansius:
Intensify your desires.
Blessed Francisco Marto:
Ill pray (the Rosary with Jacinta and
Lucia) then as well. Dont you remember
that Our Lady said I must pray many
Rosaries?
Boyie Mansueto

Blessed Francisco Marto:

Our Lady told us that we would have
much to suffer but I dont mind. Ill suffer all
that she wishes! What I want is to go to
heaven!
(The Fatima Rosary, 1st Glorious Mystery Meditation, 5)

Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and of the

Immaculate Heart:
The apostolate is a continuation of the
mission of Christ on earth; we must be
co-workers with Christ in his work of
Redemption, in the salvation of souls.
(The Fatima Rosary, 4th Sorrowful Mystery Meditation, 2)

Bishop John P. Venancio:

(2nd Bishop of Leiria-Fatima)

"The task of the WAF consists in making

known to the whole world the message of
Fatima by all the means at its disposal so
that men of all nations will realize it in their
personal lives.
Blessed Pope John Paul II
"Evangelization can be new in its ardor,
methods and expression."
The WAF must always possess new fervor,
use new methods and utilize new
expressions in fulfilling and spreading the
Message of Fatima.
IV. WAF Basic Formation Program:
1. The WAF Basic Formation Program must
be the first program that the WAF must
give priority by everyone in all its
divisions
to
fulfill
the
New
Evangelization.
2. Why the WAF Basic Formation Program?

Leadership in the New WAF 2011

1)

Because the WAFs General Charisma

consists of the New Evangelization and
Formation of the Laity:

World Apostolate of Fatima of the Philippines

4)

Prof. Americo Pablo Lopez-Ortiz,

International President, World Apostolate
of Fatima:
The general charisma of the WAF is
the
New
Evangelization
and
formation of the Laity through the
promotion and living of the Message of
Fatima throughout the world.
(Messenger of The World Apostolate of Fatima,
Vol. 1 & 2 / 2007, p. 14)

3. The WAF Basic Formation Program:

1)
2)
3)
4)
5)

2)

Because the WAFs New Mission is to

become the protagonist or leader in the
New Evangelization:
Prof. Americo Pablo Lopez-Ortiz,
International President, World Apostolate
of Fatima:
As a public association of the faithful,
the World Apostolate of Fatima has a
new mission:
to become a protagonist (leading role) in
the New Evangelization proposed by
John Paul II, the Great, and his
successor, Benedict XVI.
(Messenger of The World Apostolate of Fatima,
Vol. 1 & 2 / 2007, p. 1)

3)

Because the WAF Basic Formation

Program was duly approved by the WAF
National Council during its May 22, 2011
Meeting in Malaybalay, Bukidnon for
immediate and continual application:

6)
7)

WAF Basic Seminar,

WAF ONE (Orientation for New
Enrollees),
WAF Discipline Seminar
WAF Cell Way of Life (CWL) Seminar
WAF Block Rosary (BRACE) Seminar
WAF Marian Prayer Network (MPN)
Seminar
WAF Angels Time for Ministry (ATM)
Seminar

4. These seven (7) seminars of the WAF

Basic Formation Program are designed
to make everyone in the WAF as an
organization truly worthy of the name
WAF Apostolic Member.
5. These seminars are indispensable most of
all by our leaders in the National, Regional,
Arch/Diocesan, Vicarial and Parish divisions,
especially for those who want to become
EXECOM Officers and Members for this new
term of office: 2011-2013.

Because
the
WAFs
Marvelous
Instrument in Fulfilling its New
Mission of becoming the protagonist
or leader in the New Evangelization is
the Message of Fatima:

6. These seminars have already been

conducted for years in many WAF and YAF
divisions in the country except the WAF ONE
and the WAF MPN. [See the WAF OneYear Plan for the year 2012.]

Prof. Americo Pablo Lopez-Ortiz,

International President, World Apostolate
of Fatima:

7. The WAF ONE is scheduled to be given to

all WAF & YAF Formators in all the country
on December 3, 2011 in Cebu. Then the
First WAF & YAF National Formators
Assembly will be held on the following day,
i.e., December 4, 2011, also in Cebu.

But our charisma gives us a marvelous

instrument to perform our mission:
The authentic Message of Fatima, an
echo of the Gospel designed
precisely for our time!
(Messenger of The World Apostolate of Fatima,
Vol. 1 & 2 / 2007, p. 1)

Boyie Mansueto

V. Deeper Sense of Wider Community:

1. One thing more that everyone must bear in
mind in serving Our Lady in the WAF: avoid
serving Our Lord and Our Lady with
conditions and limitations!

Leadership in the New WAF 2011

World Apostolate of Fatima of the Philippines

Our Lady of Fatima

world and the end of the war, because

only she can help you.

(May 13, 1917 @ Cova da Iria)

(The Fatima Rosary, 3rd Joyful Mystery Meditation, 7)

Are you willing to offer yourselves to

God and bear all the sufferings he wills to
send you, as an act of reparation for the
sins by which he is offended, and of
supplication for the conversion of sinners?
2. In other words, be imbued (inspired
profoundly) with a deeper sense of wider
community.

Blessed James Alberione:

Help mankind; give it Mary for a Mother.
Do as Jesus Christ did: perform the
Marian apostolate.
(The Fatima Rosary, 2nd Joyful Mystery Meditation, 6)

PCP-II, Article 116, #1:

Blessed James Alberione:

the members of all Church

organizations, both lay and clerical, should
be imbued with a deeper sense of wider
community of which they are part.

The Marian apostolate means to make

Mary known, to imitate her and to pray to
her.
St. Louis Marie de Montfort (TD 10):

Sister Lucia:
The WAF has much to do.
Bishop John P. Venancio:
There is no doubt that much remains
still to be done and there are still millions
of believers who have never heard of this
organized Apostolate (WAF).
3. Remember: the mission of Sister Lucia
which is also the mission of the WAF is
not limited to your parish but worldwide!
Our Lady of Fatima
(June 13, 1917 @ Cova da Iria)

But you are to stay here sometime longer.

Jesus wishes to make use of you to make
me known and loved.
He wants to
establish in the world devotion to My
Immaculate Heart.
nd

(The Fatima Rosary, 2 Joyful Mystery Meditation, 6)

4. Remember that we can attain peace in the

world only through Mary:
Our Lady of Fatima
(July 13, 1917 @ Cova da Iria)

I want you to continue to pray the Rosary

every day in honor of Our Lady of the
Rosary, in order to obtain peace for the
Boyie Mansueto

(The Fatima Rosary, 2nd Joyful Mystery Meditation, 6)

And yet in truth we must still say with the

saints: De Maria numquam satis (Of Mary it
is never enough!):
We still have not praised, exalted, honored,
loved and served Mary adequately.
She is worthy of even more praise,
respect, love and worthy of even more
praise, respect, love and service.
(The Fatima Rosary, 2nd Joyful Mystery Meditation, 6)

5. Be a WAF Officer then with a deeper

sense of wider community!
Serve Our Blessed Mother and Queen
accordingly to her will!
St. Bernardine of Siena:
All the gifts, graces, virtues of the Holy
Spirit are distributed by the hands of
Mary, to whom she wills, when she wills,
as she wills, and in the measure she
wills.
(The Fatima Rosary, 2nd Joyful Mystery Meditation, 8)

6. Our Lady will repay everything! says

Sister Lucia.
St. Louis Marie de Montfort (TD 144):

Leadership in the New WAF 2011

World Apostolate of Fatima of the Philippines

The Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of

gentleness and mercy, never allows herself
to be surpassed in love and generosity.
When she sees someone giving himself
entirely to her in order to honor and
serve her, and depriving himself of what he
prizes most in order to adorn her, she gives
herself completely in a wondrous manner
to him.
(The Fatima Rosary, 5th Glorious Mystery Meditation, 8)

7. All for Our Ladys intentions, for her greater

honor and for Gods greater glory!
St. Louis Marie de Montfort (TD 265):
Glory to Jesus in Mary! Glory to Mary in
Jesus! Glory to God alone!
