NAAMA (V.O.)
I had a dream how life would be.
NAAMA HARBID (20) gags and vomits into the toilet bowl.
NAAMA (V.O.)
I cannot live the life I had, before
life killed the dream I dreamed.
She flushes down her waste, then pulls herself up. Slowly.
She goes to open the door, then remembers. She closes her
coat and conceals the bomb vest. Then steps out of the stall.
Naama turns on the faucet and splashes her face clean. Her
mirrored reflection mimics her.
BRIDAL SHOP
Sitting solo and off to the side, is ESAM ODA SALLAHA (21),
a long serious fellow who keeps his brow low while reading a
little book. A MEDIUM SIZE BLACK BAG rests by his feet.
NAAMA
Where did Fayyad go?
She waits for an answer, but he's too focused on the book.
She turns his book, catching the title. "HUMAN ALL TOO HUMAN"
by Friedrich Nietzsche.
ESAM
The little guy is "out there".
NAAMA
What is the point?
ESAM
Everyone has a choice.
3.
NAAMA
As soon as we strapped up, our fates
were written in blood, Esam. There
is no choice.
ESAM
Look at these people. What do you
see?
NAAMA
Murderers. All of them.
ESAM
I see people who are lost. They
hold shopping bags in their hands
and nothing in their hearts. I am
here to promote our freedom and help
them change their hearts, change
our fate.
NAAMA
You mean kill their hearts.
ESAM
I have a different plan.
FAYYAD
(To himself)
Could be bigger.
Fayyad finds a PETIT SEXY TANK TOP that was left behind. He
stuffs it inside his underwear. Now, he's head over heels
with what he sees.
4.
FAYYAD
I'm coming ladies. Give me fifteen
minutes.
ELI
Officials at the hearing will try to
sell you on the idea that we serve
the same purpose.
Across from the officers are two AIR-FORCE PILOTS. MEIR SHANI
(38) is infatuated with Dov, while GUY GONEN (23) gazes
absently at the Colonel.
FAYYAD
What? I want to look nice for my
virgins? They're my virgins, Esam.
NAAMA
Seventy two virgins waiting for you
in heaven. Then what do I get? A
make over?
FAYYAD
Maybe you get to be one of mine.
NAAMA
Maybe you don't get to deflower them.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
If you are not doing this with a
pure reason, it doesn't count.
FAYYAD
Fuck you! I don't judge your reason,
Sick girl!
NAAMA
I pity your virgins, Fayyad.
5.
FAYYAD
What's to pity?
ESAM
What are you running from, Naama?
NAAMA
Nothing! The Israeli's killed my
boyfriend they killed my Amar.
FAYYAD
It's him.
ESAM
Fireworks.
YOUSUF RAWHI (44), a rough man with a stone face and large
SUNGLASSES. He sips his SHOT OF ESPRESSO while scanning the
three occupied SIDEWALK TABLES. He sees the Tel Aviv mall
directly across the avenue.
MUSCULAR MAN
I think you got the wrong--
RAWHI
--No, I don't. Move inside. And
don't make me say it again.
MUSCULAR MAN
What the hell they put in your coffee--
Rawhi flicks out his KNIFE and presses it into Muscular Man's
crotch, who sees his frightened reflection in Rawhi's opaque
black lenses.
6.
RAWHI
She might think you're something.
But we both know, there's nothing
behind these.
FAYYAD
If I don't see you again, good luck
and good bye.
NAAMA
What if I go to hell?
ESAM
You can't get to heaven without going
through hell.
The officers and Meir get up and salute, but General Shaked
waves it off.
SHAKED
(To Colonel Dov)
They going to be ready for next week?
SHAKED
The parasites wouldn't know an F-16
if it landed in their living room.
They want to know what size bomb we
dropped. Our country is getting soft.
GUY
I want out, sir.
Shaked stops.
SHAKED
Go to the hearing. Keep your mouth
shut, and it will all be over. For
all of us.
GUY
I won't fly again.
SHAKED
Nobody wants to get caught in the
storm but...
GUY
It's not water that's falling down
on us. It's blood.
SHAKED
It's blood you saved.
GUY
I'm done.
SHAKED
Guy, listen to me. You don't want
to start a battle you can't win.
You climb that mountain and you'll
find yourself alone. Free falling.
Take the holiday and sort through it
all. Shape up. Report back fresh.
NAAMA
(To herself)
Urinate... Wait up to three minutes...
If Pink... Congratulations.
Naama drops her pants and yanks the plastic CAP off the TEST
STICK with her teeth.
She retrieves the test stick. It's white. She waits a few
seconds. Still white.
NAAMA
(To herself)
Crazy lady.
SPLASH-
The nearby CLEANING MAN (55) rushes in and mops up the mess.
CLEANING MAN
So sorry, miss.
ZIGI
(To Cleaning Man)
I told you to put out the signs.
Lazy!
ZIGI (CONT'D)
Bring it closer. Come on, come on.
9.
ZIGI (CONT'D)
(To Naama)
Are you ok miss?
ZIGI (CONT'D)
You can't live with them, you can't
kill enough of them.
ZIGI (CONT'D)
Arabs...
A BEAUTIFUL BLONDE passes by, he weighs his options then
goes after her.
The Cleaning Man returns with his sign and uses his towel to
clean her shoes.
CLEANING MAN
So sorry miss so sorry.
NAAMA
(In Arabic)
You have to leave. Now.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
(In Arabic)
This place is going to burn.
NERD
His music sucks and the girls still
want to jump him. Fucker.
FAYYAD
I hope they're still pure.
10.
POPCORN bubbles out of the OIL PAN and into a GLASS BIN.
Esam walks carefully through the dark rows all the way to
the front.
VIEWER 1
Get off Ahi! You're in the way.
VIEWER 2
Hey man you gotta death-wish?
ESAM
God made me a Palestinian, but the
world made me a prisoner!
ESAM (CONT'D)
I am not here for your life. I am
only here for our freedom.
Esam opens his coat, shows off the bomb vest to the audience.
They're in shock. Terrified.
ESAM (CONT'D)
Run, you fools!
Esam opens his bag, it's full of flyers entitled "Love Thy
Neighbor".
AISLE
ESAM
11.
ESAM (CONT'D)
Let's go.
He grabs the kids arm, helps him up and sends him on his
way.
With her other hand, her thumb hovers ever so slightly above
the deadly button. She squeezes...
Down
Down
Down
She releases the trigger and gazes at her pink test strip,
lost in the color. The world goes silent.
12.
BOOM!!!
A HEAVY GUY barrels past her, knocking her into the present.
Naama races out of the mall. People file out behind her.
She turns.
NAAMA
Rawhi.
RAWHI
What happened in there?
NAAMA
You're hurting me.
She pushes him away, but Rawhi is quick. He bangs her head
against the wall. Dazed, she pushes back again. He SNAPS
out his knife and points it at her stomach.
RAWHI
One bomb went off. Why?
NAAMA
I don't know.
RAWHI
Why?
13.
NAAMA
I couldn't do it.
RAWHI
All you had to do was push a button.
Naama takes advantage. She shoves him aside and runs away.
Naama races back into public view, clutching her coat closed
to conceal the bomb.
She darts across the street and a CAR stops short, almost
running her over.
The SHAWARMA SKEWER turns and burns with no one to cut it.
FAT GUY
Finally, he exits.
Fat Guy reaches over the counter and steals meat from the
carving tray, refilling his pita.
She quickly sheds her coat. She stretches again, her shirt
shifts and reviles a freshly healed scar at the base of her
neck.
KLING-KLANG!
KITCHEN WORKER
I'm a pacifist.
Naama picks up the cleaver and heads for the back door, but
returns to snatch up a PICKLE.
A heavy door opens and Naama races out. She turns down a
SMALL ALLEY
She strips off her long coat. Squeezes the blade beneath
the tape and bomb vest fabric. Very slowly. Very carefully.
Naama slips the bomb over her head and circles the yard
looking for a place to dump it.
KITCHEN WORKER
Everything happened so fast. Wait...
She had a scar on her neck. I mean
a big nasty one.
POLICE OFFICER 2
Didn't you try to stop her?
KITCHEN WORKER
I cut vegetables for a living. She
had a bomb.
POLICE RADIO
(voice filtered)
Suspect is an Arab female. Dark
features. I repeat we have a second
bomber--
Naama veers away. She flashes one last look at the mall --
what was supposed to be her tomb.
THE AVENUE
Rawhi angrily plows through them too, CRACKING one with his
elbow. The Soldiers join the chase.
Naama sees she has more then just Rawhi on her tail. She
takes a turn from the busy street into a park.
Naama darts through the park but Rawhi is faster and closing
on her.
He opens her coat looking for the bomb. He sees it's gone.
RAWHI
Where is my bomb?
RAHWI
Last time bitch. Where is--
THUNK!
THE BUSINESSMAN
Naama lunges, she swings open the door and hops into the
back seat as the taxi speeds away.
The CAB DRIVER (40) heeds the roads, but checks his rear
view mirror.
CAB DRIVER
Miss. You can't--
BUSINESSMAN
Quite all right driver. We can share.
NAAMA
Where's downtown?
CAB DRIVER
Ten blocks that way.
BUSINESSMAN
Name the place. We'll drop you.
NAAMA
Baba!
SAMIR
Naama? What are you doing in Tel
Aviv? How did you find me?
SAMIR (CONT'D)
Come. They're closing the border.
There was a bomb.
NAAMA
I know. I was there.
Samir turns and stares into Naama's eyes. He can see the
truth.
SAMIR
Thank God you're alive. Come. We
have no time. We have to get on this
bus.
NAAMA
I can't. I can't...
SAMIR
Why not? Let's go home.
NAAMA
I wish I could.
SAMIR
Of course you can. It wouldn't be
the first time we snuck someone
across.
NAAMA
Baba, you're not listening. I have
to go away. I came to say goodbye.
19.
SAMIR
Go. Where?
NAAMA
Away. Canada.
SAMIR
Naama. We almost lost you once.
Don't... I know it's hard, but things
weren't always this way. You're
just starting...
SAMIR
What?
NAAMA
I'm pregnant.
SAMIR
No, you're not. When? How?
NAAMA
I just found out.
SAMIR
Does any one know?
NAAMA
You.
SAMIR
Who is he?
NAAMA
Was. He's dead.
SAMIR
We won't tell any one. You'll be
safe. We can fix it.
NAAMA
If I go now no one has to know.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
What are you doing?
SAMIR
I can't leave you alone.
NAAMA
Trust me. I know what I'm doing. I
have a plan.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
You have to go. If they catch you
you'll lose your permit. We can't
afford that. I'll be ok, I promise.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
I can get anywhere from here. We
just have to find a way. I'll call
you tonight.
Samir empties his pockets, and gives her all the money he's
got.
A SHADOW passes over the same license plate from the taxi
that Naama escaped in.
RAWHI approaches the Cab Driver who shines up his taxi cab.
21.
RAWHI
Excuse me. How are you today?
CAB DRIVER
Fine. Good, thank you. Yourself?
RAWHI
You keep the car looking nice.
CAB DRIVER
I'm good to her so she can be good
to me. Sir, if you're in need of a
chauffeur I do that too. I keep a
nice jacket and cap for my clients.
RAWHI
You chauffeur anybody today?
CAB DRIVER
No, I was just driving my cab.
RAWHI
This cab?
CAB DRIVER
Yes, I own it.
Rawhi flings the Cab Driver to the ground and BASHES him in
the face. One. Two. Three punches turn the poor Cab
Driver's face into ground beef.
RAWHI
The Arab girl who got in your car at
the park, you remember her? Do you
remember?
RAWHI (CONT'D)
Where'd you take her?
CAB DRIVER
Nowhere--
Rawhi CRACKS his brass weapon into the Cab Driver's jaw,
knocking out a TOOTH.
RAWHI
I hate repeating myself.
CAB DRIVER
She got in my cab, but I didn't take
her anywhere.
22.
RAWHI
I believe you.
Four loud YOUNGSTERS are coming down the road. Naama takes
a turn to avoid them.
SUITED MAN
(On TV)
That's it guys.
ANCHOR
(On TV)
This was minister of defense Haim
Lev about today's bombing in Tel
Aviv. Officials confirmed "only"
one victim in the busy mall. And
some already named it a memorial
week miracle. It is however believed
that there was at least one more
female bomber who fled the scene.
Police think she might still...
23.
VENDER (O.S.)
Can I help you?
Naama's eyes are fixated on the TV. The Vender sees that
and then sees the sketch on TV.
VENDER (CONT'D)
Hey!
GUY
(To Bartender)
Tovi. Supply!
TOVI
Enough for one night, Guy. Go home.
GUY
When is enough enough? When you
haven't slept in a month, because
you're too scared of what you might
dream of? Or when you finally wake
up and you wish you never did?
TOVI
What's the problem man? Look at
you. You got it all. What eats
you?
GUY
You want to know...
24.
GUY (CONT'D)
You think they would still let me
fly a ten million dollar machine if
they saw me now?
SWOOSH... SWOOSH...
WOMAN
Hi.
Naama tries to slide by, but the woman studies Naama's clothes
from head to toe.
WOMAN (CONT'D)
(Screaming)
Simi! Simi! Some bitch stole my
clothes! Come down here now!
But she runs between buildings. As fast as she can till she
goes right into a dead end.
SPLASH -
She hits the floor hard with her entire body, banging her
head in the process.
Guy rubs his eyes, not sure if it's real. He goes to her,
stumbling in the process.
GUY
You look worse than I do. Haha.
GUY (CONT'D)
Oh, shit. You ok? Should I call an
ambulance?
NAAMA
No. No ambulance, please.
SIMI (O.S.)
Where are you bitch?! I'll fuck you
up!
GUY
What's going on?
He smiles.
NAAMA
Let's go in.
Guy is surprised.
26.
GUY
You want to come in?
SIMI (O.S.)
(Shouting to his
girlfriend)
Riki! Where did she go?
NAAMA
Which one is your place?
Guy squints at the numbers on a door.
GUY
It's not this one. Why won't you
turn on the light?
NAAMA
Better this way. You live alone?
GUY
Pretty much.
They climb one more floor. Guy stops by the door, looks at
it real close. His nose touches the numbers.
GUY (CONT'D)
That's it.
GUY (CONT'D)
I'm just gonna rest for a second.
NAAMA
Give me.
She takes the keys as Guy leans back against the wall and
closes his eyes. He is gone.
Naama unlocks the door and walks in. She takes another look
at Guy who is out, then closes the door behind her. Locking
it.
27.
LIVING ROOM
Naama collapses into the couch. She tries to resist but her
eyes close. Suddenly she hears a noise. Springs upright
ready to run, but the noise subsides.
Naama leans back and shuts her eyes again.
A little HAMSA dangles from the rear view mirror. The face
reflecting back is Rawhi's. His eyes scan the neighborhood.
The sun just peaks above the horizon. A new day is about to
take over.
The roar of a morning bus invades the room. She jumps up.
Frightened. Naama looks around, getting her bearings.
She proceeds.
MAIN STREET
POLICE OFFICER
(To Group)
Any one notice any thing suspicious.
YOUNG MAN
Just my girl's late night text
messages.
YOUNG MAN 2
That was from me.
NAAMA
Hey. Mister. Wake up.
She goes behind him, and tries to shove him inside the
apartment like a heavy box.
She waits a second but the only sign of life is his SNORING.
Naama looks around the room. She opens a closet and goes
through it. Picks out a T-SHIRT.
Quietly walks out.
KITCHEN
FADE OUT:
GUY (O.S.)
Saba?
NAAMA
Good morning.
GUY
Hi...
30.
NAAMA
Naama.
GUY
Right Naama... We...
NAAMA
Met last night.
GUY
Sure. It's just... Never drink
Israeli beer... It wipes you out.
NAAMA
I don't.
GUY
You don't.
GUY (CONT'D)
We had all this here?
NAAMA
Hungry?
She sits down. He joins her. Naama waits for him to bite.
GUY
Go ahead. I need a minute.
NAAMA
Sorry. It's been a while...
GUY
Since you had humus?
NAAMA
Since I had anything.
GUY
What happened? How did we meet?
31.
NAAMA
You really don't remember?
GUY
A war could have started and I
wouldn't remember.
NAAMA
You're close. I came to start a job
in Jaffa. But the boss got fresh
with me, so I ran away. Then I ran
into you. Down the street.
GUY
He the one who did this to you?
Guy puts the pregnancy test on the table. Naama is stunned.
GUY (CONT'D)
I found it on the floor. I hope I
didn't sleep for that long.
She stands up. Ready for anything. She reaches into her
pocket, where the knife is.
NAAMA
I paid 1,000 shekels to be smuggled
here for a... procedure.
GUY
Did it happen?
NAAMA
What?
GUY
The abortion.
NAAMA
It's not that simple. I'm not
married. I can't go back home.
Everything's a mess. And now the
border is closed.
GUY
Where is home?
32.
NAAMA
Gaza.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
I want to find a way out. Fly away.
Start again.
GUY
If you need a pilot...
NAAMA
Are you a pilot?
GUY
I've got the hat and everything.
He finally takes a bite of the humus. Delicious.
GUY (CONT'D)
What did you put in it? It's even
better then City Humus, and they're
the best.
NAAMA
You really think Israelis make the
best Arab food in the world?
He laughs.
GUY
I might have something you can change
into. Besides my favorite T-shirt.
NAAMA
Sorry.
GUY
Kidding.
GUY (CONT'D)
You okay? Can I get you something?
SHAKED
There are two sides. The positive
is we got our man. The other side-
for which we expressed our sorrow-
is that uninvolved civilians got
hurt.
DINA
You mean innocent civilians?
SHAKED
I mean uninvolved. Because we know
that even the biggest terrorists are
disguised as civilians at times.
DINA
You would agree that at least those
kids were innocent?
SHAKED
Yes.
DINA
Which happened because you acted
based on the wrong information?
DINA (CONT'D)
You don't think this was an
intelligence failure?
SHAKED
Again I regret that uninvolved
citizens and innocent children got
hurt, but it wasn't a result of bad
intel or professional failure. The
mission was a success.
DINA
Let me ask you something else. A
pilot follows your order and drops a
bomb. Children are killed. Isn't
it legitimate to ask him what he
feels about the mission? Shouldn't
he ask himself?
34.
Shaked finishes his coffee and gazes at the beach and the
MEDITERRANEAN SEA. The interview is over.
ON THE BEACH
RAWHI
Where the fuck--
FAYYAD
Lying on his back shirtless and sunning himself.
ON THE SAND
FAYYAD
Rawhi?
RAWHI
I said meet me by the cafe.
FAYYAD
I figured I could use the tan.
RAWHI
What are you still doing alive?
FAYYAD
I must have pressed that damn trigger
like ten times. It was dead.
RAWHI
Dead? Maybe I can revive it.
Fayyad's confused.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
The bomb. Where is the bomb? You
didn't throw it away did you?
35.
FAYYAD
It was just here.
RAWHI
In a fucking yacht? You should've
just hid it up your ass.
FAYYAD
I needed a place to crash. It was
empty. They had this amazing round
bed.
FAYYAD (CONT'D)
What?
The large space is fogged with second hand smoke from a group
of smoking MEN engaged in a loud conversation.
The ELDER ONE raises his hand and they quiet down.
ELDER
This was supposed to be a holiday
they'll remember. The 55th
anniversary of Israel. Instead we
gave them a miracle. You have failed!
The men start to argue again blaming each other. The Elder
man raises his hand again and they all quiet down.
ELDER (CONT'D)
We must keep the pressure on. They
must not feel protected behind their
walls.
ELDER (CONT'D)
Find a way. Find a way to hurt them.
ALI ZIAD (35) is seated among the men, his eyes connect with
the Elder man.
36.
INTERCUT WITH:
ALI
Did you get them?
RAWHI
I got the crazy little fuck. But
I'll need your help with her.
ALI
The old man is not happy. He's got
me working around the clock because
of you.
RAWHI
Why? What did he say?
ALI
He wanted to give them a holiday to
remember. He ordered three BOOMS
and you only gave him one.
RAWHI
You sent me a turncoat bitch and a
buffoon. I should kill him, save me
the trouble.
ALI
Impossible. He's all you got right
now. How soon can you get him out?
RAWHI
I'll make the old man happy. Just
help me find the bitch.
ALI
I will.
FAYYAD
When do I get another chance?
37.
Naama towel dries her hair. She wears her "NEW OUTFIT", but
she's not happy with it.
RAWDA
Get up already.
SAMIR
What for? I haven't heard from my
daughter. The border is closed. No
one needs me outside this bed.
RAWDA
I do. Now get going and and you'll
see that things will get better.
RING- RING-
NAAMA
Hello... Mama.
RAWDA
Naama. My daughter. The phones
were down. Where are you?
NAAMA
I'm okay.
RAWDA
Is it true? The bombing? How? Why
Naama?
Samir is trying to take the phone, but Rawda pushes him off.
NAAMA
I made a mistake. It's complicated.
RAWDA
Where are you?
NAAMA
I wish I could be home.
RAWDA
They'll open the border...
NAAMA
Mama. I can't come back. I am having
a baby.
RAWDA
How? You are not married. You are
making no sense.
NAAMA
I need to find a way out of this
land. Help me.
RAWDA
Come home Naama.
NAAMA
I've never been this sure about
anything.
RAWDA
Your father has an uncle up north.
JUMA.
39.
GUY
What are you doing here?
GUY (O.S.)
What do you mean you need a ride
back? I just took you there.
Naama peeks in on
GUY
SALOMON
If you don't take me who will?
GUY
She put you up to this, pops?
SALOMON
Do I look like a schmuck to you?
GUY
You really want me to answer that?
SALOMON
Come on kiddo. If we don't leave
now I'm going to miss the ceremony.
GUY
Go right here in Tel Aviv then.
SALOMON
I like Kiryat Ata's fireworks better.
40.
SALOMON (CONT'D)
Who's this?
GUY
Naama's my guest. Be nice.
SALOMON
You can't drive me back because of
her?
GUY
Naama, this is my grandfather,
Salomon. It's his place. Forgive
him. He's been through a lot in
life.
GUY (CONT'D)
Drink up. You'll feel better.
SALOMON
She sick?
GUY
He and my mother are trying to
manipulate me into going home for
the holiday.
SALOMON
Are not.
NAAMA
(Softly)
I'm trying to get to my uncle.
SALOMON
Good luck, honey.
GUY
Where?
NAAMA
North--
SALOMON
--North? We're headed north.
41.
SALOMON (CONT'D)
We should give her a ride, Guy.
After all she is our guest.
NAAMA
If it's ok.
SALOMON
Sure it is. Right?
GUY
Sure. Where up north?
NAAMA
Zarzir.
SALOMON
The Arab village?
SHAKED
Finally not on the front page.
LEV
Page four.
SHAKED
That reporter today, didn't even ask
me once about my retirement, my
political ambitions. The bombing.
The investigation. That's all she
wanted to know.
LEV
Politics. It's a different game you
know. It's not about what you do,
it's about what they say you do.
42.
SHAKED
It's not about what they say, it's
about what they wish for. People
cry peace, but all they really want
is to sleep in peace. My record
guarantees them sweet dreams.
LEV
Don't gamble your career on that
boy's guilt trip.
SHAKED
This country is full of generals.
We all have a past... and a second
career in politics.
LEV
It only took David one stone, Shaked.
The office door opens and TALI SHAKED (50) walks in. She is
beautiful and elegant even in jeans and a sweatshirt.
LEV (CONT'D)
This woman at your side will get you
places.
They laugh.
LEV (CONT'D)
I'd say at least prime minister.
TALI
Why won't you start with the broken
heart in the next room. Can you
talk to her?
Shaked walks into the teenage girl's nest. ADI SHAKED (17)
is down on the floor, hugging her knees with her head between
them.
She puts her head in his chest and bursts out crying.
SHAKED
I never liked him anyway.
43.
FAYYAD
Wow. This is your store?
RAWHI
The family's.
RAWHI
Italian. Hundred percent calf-- Get
your fucking shoes off.
BZZZZZ! BZZZZZ!
44.
RAWHI
Closed till after the holiday.
YOUNG MAN
I saw the car and I thought... I put
a deposit down for a sofa, but I
really need the money.
RAWHI
Come back after the holiday and
Hassan...
YOUNG MAN
He told me the sofa was already on
it's way. But I need the money.
It's an emergency.
He walks the Young Man through the store to his office door.
RAWHI
Let me see the receipt.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
Wait here.
He goes to his desk and opens the drawer. Inside lies the
gun next to a LARGE BLACK LOG BOOK. Rawhi grabs the book.
Rawhi closes the notebook and walks back to the Young Man.
45.
He takes out his wallet and counts five bills then gives it
over to the Young Man.
YOUNG GUY
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Tell Hassan I'm so sorry. I just
really needed--
RAWHI
It will still be here if you want
it.
FAYYAD
What if someone comes?
RAWHI
We're closed till after the holiday.
FAYYAD
Do you need my help?
He flops back down on the sofa. Legs up. He SNAPS off the
top -- Soda EXPLODES all over him and the pristine leather.
FAYYAD (CONT'D)
Shit.
SAMIR
Who gave you the right to send her?
She is a child. My child.
ALI
Nobody. She came to us.
46.
SAMIR
You could've said no.
ALI
Naama's boyfriend, Amar, was killed
by them. We are fighting a war. I
don't force people in but I don't
push them out.
Ali picks up the phone and shows it to them. Checks for the
dial tone.
RAWDA
You don't care about her.
ALI
I care about what they'll find out
when they get her. Helping her means
helping me. I need to know where
she is.
SALOMON
This isn't wise with everything going
on. Going to an Arab village. It's
dangerous.
GUY
It's dangerous to go to the mall in
this country.
SALOMON
I know. The prices are killing me.
Guy's car heads into a ROAD BLOCK, Two POLICE OFFICERS signal
Guy to stop.
GUY
Hi.
OFFICER
ID please. What's your direction?
GUY
Going home for the holiday. Is
everything ok?
OFFICER
Just "sealing" the city. Looking
for the terrorist girl from the mall.
OFFICER (CONT'D)
Drive safe.
SALOMON
The least of our worries.
GUY
Thanks. We will.
RAWHI
Where'd you go, Naama? What'd you
do with my bomb?
RAWHI (CONT'D)
What do you got for me, Ali?...
Zarzir?... Okay, I'm leaving now.
The road turns from wide and smoothly paved to narrow and
crooked. A KID leads a HERD OF SHEEP along the roadside.
GUY
Do you want me to come in?
She offers him some of the money her father gave her.
Guy refuses. Almost insulted.
GUY (CONT'D)
Keep it. It's on the house.
Naama climbs out of the car and enters the front yard.
GUY (CONT'D)
Hey Naama, let me know if it's ok.
GUY (CONT'D)
I'll be right here... As long as it
takes.
SALOMON
What do you mean as long as it takes?
49.
The door CREAKS open. JUMA HALIL (55) towers over Naama in
a traditional ARAB GALLAHBIA, he's got a head full of thick
black hair and an even thicker mustache.
JUMA
Where is the baby who used to sneak
off with my candies?
JUMA
I sent everybody to the market, so
we can all talk.
NAAMA
I'd rather just talk with you.
JUMA
You can trust my son and my dear
friend, Abaas Abu Sid. He saved my
life twice.
Juma sits beside Naama and pours her a CUP of BOILING TEA.
She accepts. He offers her a cookie.
NAAMA
I need to get out of Israel, Uncle.
Please, make this possible.
JUMA
It can be done.
Naama relaxes. She takes a sip of her tea, but it's too
hot.
JUMA (CONT'D)
The craziest thing about this life,
Naama, are the parallels of irony.
Most take them for granted.
Naama is confused.
JUMA (CONT'D)
I planted the seed that started the
Six Day War. History books claim
the war started because Egypt closed
the straits of Tiran to Israeli ships.
Bullshit. Every conflict starts
with a push in the right direction.
In June of '66 just like you, I
planted a bomb. I'm a native. An
Arab. An Arab citizen of Israel.
Call it what you wish, but my family
goes back fifteen generations on
this land. Yet, I'm written off as
fucking garbage in their eyes. After
their independence war, over night,
my grandfather lost the fields that
his family occupied for two centuries.
In the sixties the world was
reshuffling it's social order. We
had our own deck to reshuffle, so I
joined Fatah. The order came straight
from Abu Jihad.
JUMA (CONT'D)
Three of us were sent into the desert
one night. I was younger than you.
The moon lit our way as we dug up
the earth and planted a land mine by
the Jordanian border. Three Israeli
soldiers were killed and six were
severely injured. Israel blamed
Jordan. Exquisite. Seven months
bloodshed ended up in a war. The
only time I ever felt that same thrill
again was when I slaughtered a sheep
at the birth of my first son. Yes.
Gaza was abandoned by Egypt. But it
was the seed I planted that made
that piece of history. Only Allah
knows what your bomb will lead to.
JUMA (CONT'D)
Now is when our stories go in separate
directions. I know a seed grows
within you, but not all seeds are
meant to be sown.
Guy walks around the car. Salomon follows him with his eyes.
SALOMON
You're making my head spin.
GUY
I'm worried.
SALOMON
Me too. We should leave.
GUY
Not without knowing what's going on.
SALOMON
What difference would it make? It's
beyond your control.
JUMA
Your father asked me to get you out,
but I have the best solution.
JUMA (CONT'D)
We will take care of this problem.
Then you can go back home without
shame.
NAAMA
What do you mean?
Guy trespasses up to the front door and puts his ear against
it. Behind him, Salomon drives up to the open gate.
52.
Abu Sid sets out his STEEL MEDICAL TOOLS on the coffee table.
ABU SID
Get me the hot water. Make sure
it's boiling.
SALOMON
Don't be stupid, kiddo. Let's go.
Abu Sid fills a SYRINGE, then swabs her skin with alcohol.
He aims his needle at her vein.
ABU SID
Don't be afraid. I'm a doctor.
Naama sees the sharp tip and SCREAMS a blood curdling cry.
She grabs Abu Sid's hand and plunges the syringe into his
thigh. He SCREAMS!
JUMA
Don't make it worse.
The front door BURSTS open -- Guy kicks it in. He sees the
three men tower over Naama.
JUMA (CONT'D)
You let a Jew defile you?
GUY
Let her go. We don't want any
trouble.
JUMA
Yet you break into my house. How
fucking Israeli.
Guy goes down. Hassan kicks, but Guy blocks it and clobbers
Hassan in the ribs. It doesn't even phase him.
ABU SID
HASSAN
JUMA
NAAMA
Watch out!
GUY
NAAMA
Gets up. She is hurt but grabs hold of the hookah and clubs
Juma with it like a crazy person, but he blocks the blows.
GUY
Grabs Naama by the waist and carries her out kicking and
screaming.
Guy rushes Naama towards his old car. Salomon mans the wheel,
ready to go. They climb in.
Juma and Hassan jet out from the house. Hassan picks up a
STONE.
SALOMON
Shit.
GUY
Go. Go.
GUY + NAAMA
Go!
SALOMON
What the hell did you do? Refuse
the man's tea?
GUY
Faster.
NAAMA
Duck.
SALOMON
(to Guy)
Told you so.
SALOMON
NAAMA
I'll fly you across the sky myself
if I have to.
GUY
Pops. Relax. I'm the one getting
stitched.
SALOMON
Relax? Knives? Bricks?
GUY
We're ok.
SALOMON
Ok? A baby? What's next? Converting
to Islam and moving to Bet Lehem?
Can you believe this Efi?
DR. WEIDER
No, I can't.
SALOMON
So?
GUY
So what?
SALOMON
The truth. Out with it.
GUY
This is a stupid conversation.
SALOMON
Is it yours?
GUY
No.
57.
SALOMON
Allah Awaqbar.
RAWHI
I'm looking for Juma.
HASSAN
Who the fuck are you?
FFFIT -- Rawhi pulls the bandage of Hassan's face, revealing
his busted and swollen red nose.
RAWHI
Did she do it to you?
HASSAN
No.
JUMA
Yes, I'm sure he was an Israeli.
Bright hair, green eyes, his accent,
what he was wearing.
RAWHI
This is good. Did you catch his
name?
JUMA
No. They did drive off in a blue
Volvo.
RAWHI
Any idea where?
JUMA
I wish I did.
Rawhi goes for his SUV, Hassan sneaks out of the house and
runs after him.
HASSAN
Wait a second.
Rawhi stops.
HASSAN (CONT'D)
I think... He might be from Kiryat
Ata.
RAWHI
Why do you say that?
HASSAN
The T-shirt he was wearing. It said
Macabi Kiryat Ata.
RAWHI
You can read Hebrew?
RAWHI (CONT'D)
Anything else?
HASSAN
Can I work for you?
ALEA GONEN (50) sits at her VANITY applying makeup. She has
sweet features and is dressed in a dark suit.
Alea peeks out the window and sees Guy's battered car. The
biggest smile in the world spreads across her face.
The front door SWINGS open and Alea comes out with open arms.
ALEA
You're here. I'm so happy.
59.
ALEA (CONT'D)
What? Are you hurt?
GUY
It's nothing. A scratch.
Salomon laughs.
Alea sees past Guy to find Naama, fidgeting and out of place.
She gregariously extends her hand and shakes Naama's.
ALEA
And who is this young lady?
GUY
This is my mother, Alea. Mom, this
is my friend, Naama.
NAAMA
Pleasure to meet you.
ALEA
I ironed a fresh shirt for you to
wear tonight.
SALOMON
I lied. Sue me.
GUY
(to Alea)
Are you going to make me go?
ALEA
I'm not making you do anything. I
just want you by my side.
Alea lays out a pressed SHIRT and BLACK PANTS on the bed.
ALEA
You look just like your father did.
60.
GUY
I don't know about that.
ALEA
Trust me. You look great.
GUY
I'm not going with you on stage.
GUY (CONT'D)
I saw Shaked today.
ALEA
How is he doing?
GUY
I told him I want out.
ALEA
Guy. You have three more years left.
You don't quit the Air Force. They
won't let you.
GUY
They'll have to.
ALEA
You don't want to be dishonorably
discharged! People will never look
at you the same.
ALEA (CONT'D)
What about her? She's too big for
anything I own.
GUY
Easy. I'm just helping her out.
Let her rest.
ALEA
What can you possibly have with an
Arab? I'm not leaving some stranger
from "Jerusalem" in my house to do
God knows what.
GUY
Mom, she's from Gaza. She doesn't
belong at our memorial ceremony.
ALEA
From Gaza! How did you meet her?
61.
GUY
What does it matter?
ALEA
No way I'm leaving her alone.
GUY
There's no way she'll go.
Naama tries to slip behind Guy. No help. The two girl scouts
are on alert and one nails her with a stick-on flag.
SONYA (60s) and OLGA (60s), two polish Jewish woman who wear
their hair up 1940s style, approach the Gonens.
OLGA
Mrs. Gonen.
ALEA
Olga. Sonya. So good to see you.
SONYA
Guy. Look how handsome you are.
Come here.
GUY
Good to see you too ladies.
(to Alea)
We're going inside.
SONYA
Bringing a girl home for memorial
day? Serious is it?
ALEA
Who? Her? No. She's just a friend.
OLGA
Just a friend. I've heard that
before. Then all of a sudden...
SALOMON
She is Arab. From Gaza.
Sonya and Olga perk up and laugh. Clearly, they think it's
a joke.
ALEA
What are you mumbling? He just turned
eighty, you know.
SALOMON
The baby is not his.
SONYA + OLGA
Baby?
ALEA
He's been watching too many reality
shows? Nice chatting. See you after
the ceremony.
SONYA
Sure we will.
ALEA
She's pregnant?
An OLD VOLUNTEER (80), spots Naama and heads right for her.
OLD VOLUNTEER
They missed you. Here sweetie.
He laughs.
RAWHI
ON STAGE
Everyone stands.
ZIV
We would like to honor Kiryat Ata's
sons and daughters who fell while
fulfilling their duty to protect
Israel. To do so, we are inviting
the family members to light a candle
for their loved ones. Itai Shahal.
TWO PARENTS (50's) and a WOMAN (33) step up from the crowd.
They take the torch from Ziv and light the FIRST CANDLE.
ZIV (CONT'D)
Yotam Cohen.
64.
TWO PARENTS along with their TEENAGE GIRL (16) and their BOY
(10) step up and receive the torch from the previous family.
They light the NEIGHBORING CANDLE.
RAWHI
ZIV (CONT'D)
Dani Gonen.
Alea signals Guy. It's their turn. She and Salomon move
into the aisle. Only Guy remains still.
Alea motions for him to follow, but Guy keeps his eyes low.
A WHISPER of gossip trickles through the crowd.
Salomon leads Alea on stage where they light the THIRD CANDLE.
The door opens. Alea storms in and tosses her PURSE on the
table. It drops, but she doesn't care.
Guy, Naama, and Salomon enter the house gloomy and on-edge.
NAAMA
I don't know that I can stand the
trip back tonight.
GUY
We can't stay.
NAAMA
But I'm so tired.
GUY
You can sleep in the car.
Guy bolts into the bathroom and closes the door in her face.
She's left stranded on the other side.
SALOMON
This might take him a while. Let me
set you a bed upstairs.
Guy lies in bed, eyes open. A bedside clock reads: 2:33 AM.
GUY
Shit.
Naama steps out onto the porch. She sees Guy tinkering with
the toy plane.
GUY
Did I wake you?
NAAMA
Not sure. What are you doing?
66.
GUY
Trying to see if there's any life
left in this one.
NAAMA
I hope you're not planning on flying
me to Canada on it.
GUY
My dad got this for me on my seventh
birthday. We worked on it all night
long. Mom was so mad. Next day,
instead of school he took me to the
beach and taught me my first lazy
eight.
Naama is confused. She's not versed in flying lingo. Guy
demonstrates the maneuver with the plane.
GUY (CONT'D)
All my friends thought he was the
coolest dad.
NAAMA
And you?
GUY
My dad was a decorated combat pilot.
He was a hero.
NAAMA
Why didn't you want to light the
candle for him?
GUY
Maybe I'm too old for heroes.
NAAMA
Yet, you saved me.
GUY
And I fly. Maybe I am a super hero.
She laughs.
GUY (CONT'D)
Hey. We got feelings too you know.
NAAMA
I'm sorry. What does it feel like?
GUY
To be a super hero?
67.
NAAMA
No. To fly a plane?
GUY
Fast. Free. You are all alone and
nothing can stop you.
NAAMA
Ever since I found out, I never feel
alone. I like it.
Silence. They both enjoy the moment. She finally gets up.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
Sweet dreams, Guy.
GUY
Night night, Naama.
SALOMON (O.S.)
--Guy.
He turns to see
SALOMON
GUY
Can't sleep either?
SALOMON
I'm not the one you need to worry
about.
GUY
I told Mom I wasn't going on stage.
SALOMON
It's beyond me why you would almost
get yourself killed for someone you
barely know, but wouldn't light a
candle for your own father?
68.
GUY
This is different. This is my choice.
Salomon pours TWO SHOTS. He gives one to Guy and downs his.
SALOMON
Let me tell you a story about choice.
Sixty years ago in Poland, after
walking for days, I collapsed one
night in a forest. My whole family
was dead. I hadn't eaten in eight
days. It was freezing and I was in
my summer shoes. I just crawled into
a cave and waited to die. Then I
heard them. I shouted in every
language I knew, pleading for them
to come kill me.
Salomon pours himself another.
SALOMON (CONT'D)
They were a troop of partisans.
They didn't kill me, they saved my
life. I came to this land with others
like me, and we swore to build and
protect this country with our lives,
so that would never happen again.
That's what your father died for.
Our right to be Israel. The day you
finished flight school I was so proud,
and I realized that you and your
father were with me in that cave.
The night life chose me was the night
you were both born. Mazel tov.
Rawhi unzips his pants, pulls out his penis, and pees on the
stone memorial.
Alea comes down all dressed up, but stops when she sees Guy.
She watches him.
GUY
I still don't know what to think
about the uniform. But I'm sorry I
doubted you. I love you, Dad.
FAYYAD
What does your body look like?
CURB SIDE
Shaked helps Alea out of the car and escorts her to the house.
ALEA
Now the songs on the radio will shift
to happier ones. But I don't know
how to do that.
SHAKED
I think of him every time I wear my
flight suit.
ALEA
It means so much that you visited,
especially with everything going on.
SHAKED
It's not memorial day without
remembering Dani.
(regarding Guy)
Let me talk to him.
PORCH
SHAKED (CONT'D)
These wings aren't balanced. Won't
be able to land.
SHAKED (CONT'D)
I covered for your father when he
snuck off to buy it. We always had
each other's back.
GUY
What about my back?
SHAKED
I know I was hard on you. It's
because I care. Your father would
have wanted me to. I just found out
they are threatening to trial me for
war crimes in Belgium. Let them
try. You did the right thing Guy.
You took down an enemy. Don't let
anyone tell you different. We will
always have your back.
GUY
You have no idea what I feel.
SHAKED
You know what I feel when I drop a
bomb?
71.
SHAKED (CONT'D)
A tremble down the wing when it's
released. That's it. That's all
you need to feel.
GUY
Like a machine?
SHAKED
Damn right. You were taught, when
you are on that plane, you are an
extension. You don't press the
button. You are the button.
GUY
How many lives did you know would be
sacrificed?
SHAKED
One. Our target. That's all I needed
to know.
GUY
The price is too high.
SHAKED
This is war, the price is always
high, but you don't need to keep on
paying.
SHAKED (CONT'D)
Monday you show up as one of us,
ready to face them. Then if you are
still sure you want out, I'll make
it my last agenda item before I
retire.
Guy nods.
Shaked returns to his car, but looks back to see Guy staring
down at the toy plane. He notices Naama looking out the
kitchen window.
ALEA
So you're making us this magic humus?
72.
NAAMA
No magic here. Just a few old secrets
and a lot of passion.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
Your son is a wonderful friend. But
that's it. This is just my way of
thanking you.
ALEA
I'm sorry about last night.
NAAMA
Sorry? What for?
ALEA
For making you go to the ceremony.
It must have been...
NAAMA
- Touching. There are worse things
we could have done to each other.
Guy breaks off a piece of pita and digs in. Savoring the
flavors. Alea and Salomon try too. It wins them over.
ALEA
This is divine.
NAAMA
Glad you like it.
SALOMON
Like it? This is the best humus
I've ever had.
(to Guy)
It's even better then city humus.
ALEA
Salomon. We're eating.
SALOMON
That's my only problem with humus.
ALEA
(To Guy and Naama)
So. Are you going to watch the
fireworks tonight?
NAAMA
What's wrong?
GUY
Nothing I just don't want--
AVIV (O.S.)
--Guy Gonen. Guy! Hey!
GUY
Shit.
AVIV
Shy told me he saw you at the
ceremony, but I didn't believe him.
What are you guys doing? You gotta
come in. Say hi. Everybody is here.
Aviv puts his arms around them and leads them inside.
CUT TO:
Naama admires the laughing PARTY GOERS and the endless supply
of red plastic cups.
CUT TO:
74.
CUT TO:
NAAMA
You know I've never been to anything
like this before.
GUY
Really? You don't get together with
friends in Gaza?
NAAMA
We do. Just not like this.
GUY
Wait till they get really drunk.
They CLINK.
NAAMA
To independence.
AVIV comes back with a drink in hand, but he's already had
too many.
AVIV
Son of a bitch, you look good.
AVIV (CONT'D)
Look at those eyes. Guy you're a
lucky guy. I got a joke for you
two. This man enters a sex shop--
GUY
Aviv, she is a lady.
AVIV
No shit. Don't worry, it's clean.
75.
AVIV (CONT'D)
So he says to the clerk he's looking
for a blow up doll. The clerk asks
him if he wants a blonde or a
brunette. The man doesn't care.
The clerk asks him if he wants one
that's tight or loose. Again, the
man couldn't give a shit. Finally,
the clerk asks the man if he wants a
blow up doll that's Jewish or the
more expensive Muslim. This man's
stumped, so he asks the clerk what's
the difference. The clerk says,
'The Muslim girls blow themselves
up.' Haha! Get it? They blow
themselves up.
Guy is embarrassed. He looks at Naama, but she starts
laughing hysterically.
AVIV (CONT'D)
Guy is the man. Just like his dad.
I love you, bro.
AVIV (CONT'D)
To the best that Kiryat Ata has to
offer. Happy birthday, Israel.
Fifty-five fucking years, and at
least another fifty-five 'till our
next exile.
Aviv gets down laughing and throws his arms around Guy.
AVIV (CONT'D)
You know he is a real hero.
GUY
Wow!
AVIV
I'm not suppose to know this, but I
am intel. You know that this pilot
here...
76.
GUY
Hey!
AVIV
(Whispers)
....killed Sallah Shada himself. He
dropped the bomb.
NAAMA
You dropped the bomb on Sallah Shada?
GUY
A month ago on my first mission. I
was only backup, but... The lead
plane malfunctioned...
NAAMA
--Eleven kids were killed.
GUY
I didn't know.
NAAMA
You dropped a bomb on a house in the
middle of Gaza. What did you think
was going to happen?
GUY
I was given an order. There was no
way I could know.
NAAMA
How convenient.
GUY
I'm sorry. I wanted to tell you.
Naama gets out of the house and turns right. She starts
running down the street and takes another turn.
GUY
Rawhi's SUV stops at the edge of town, the sky explodes with
FIREWORKS.
RAWHI
Hello.
NAAMA
You still want that bomb?
NAAMA (CONT'D)
I need to get out of Israel first.
RAWHI
No problem. Let's meet.
NAAMA
Just like that? Don't you need to
know where I want to go?
RAWHI
Anything is possible. Just get me
the bomb.
Rawhi and Naama both hear the same explosion both on the
phone and around them.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
I know we had a misunderstanding.
NAAMA
You tried to kill me!
RAWHI
You tried to kill yourself. I'll get
you out.
NAAMA
How?
RAWHI
On a fucking camel what does it
matter. Just trust me.
NAAMA
I don't.
RAWHI
Better to trust a fucking Jew?
Panicked. Naama hangs up. She throws the phone away as far
as she can. It breaks into pieces.
It's Guy.
NAAMA
What is wrong with you?
GUY
You left before I--
NAAMA
I trusted you. I believed you.
And now I find out you killed those
kids. I knew one of them. My
neighbor's nephew. He was five.
79.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
This is all wrong. You almost made
me give up hate. But you are just
one of them. I hate you...
GUY
You think I like being me? Do you
know what's it like to wake up every
morning wishing that I hadn't?
Knowing I don't deserve the air I
breath... You grow up your whole
life believing your side is always
right. Then at eighteen you enter
as a high school kid, and walk out a
soldier. You're sent on a mission,
to kill one of your worst enemies.
come back a hero, only to learn you
killed the innocent. And now my
commanders want me to stand at that
hearing and say the mission was a
success. I don't know if they knew.
I don't know if I should have known.
In my faith they say, saving one
soul is like saving the whole world.
And I thought if I could save you
and your baby...
He lets her look straight through his eyes into his soul.
She understands.
NAAMA
You should know I came to Israel to
hurt people.
Guy nods.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
You knew and you still helped me?
Why?
GUY
I hoped you didn't. We are in this
together. The only difference is
that god let me press the button.
This is our journey.
GUY (CONT'D)
I wish I could get another chance.
You did, and I want to help you make
the best of it.
80.
She pulls down the neckline of her dress and exposes her
thick fresh scar.
NAAMA
I survived, but my man, my Ammar,
did not. You know that age when you
realize your parents don't know
everything? That there are more
questions than answers. That was
the age I realized I didn't have a
future.
GUY
Things will change, Naama. They
have to.
NAAMA
When? When I'm sixty? Eighty? Or
after I'm dead? Ammar and I refused
to live that way. We used to dream
up new lives for ourselves. There
was no way our families would allow
us to be matched, so we planed on
moving to Canada. The night Ammar
got his papers, we were together. A
bomb was dropped on the building
next door... I came to Israel for
revenge, but right before ... I found
out I'm carrying his child.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
We have to leave. They are after
me. They know about you. They
followed me here to Kiryat Ata.
GUY
Who?
NAAMA
The people who sent me. Rawhi. He
is a killer. He wants to kill me.
I am not safe here.
GUY
Will you trust me?
She nods.
It's the quiet after the storm. The living room is flooded
with trash from the Independence Day party.
81.
KNOCK- KNOCK-
Tali opens the door and finds TWO OFFICERS standing outside.
Behind them is Guy. In his uniform.
OFFICER 1
Mrs. Shaked, this young pilot says...
TALI
Guy. What is going on? Is your mom
here?
GUY
Hi. I'm sorry. I need to talk to
Gabi.
SHAKED
What happened? Everything okay at
home?
TALI
I'll make some coffee.
She exits.
GUY
You told me you will never forget
how my dad had your back in 73.
SHAKED
I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for
your dad.
GUY
I am here to tell you I'll be there
for you tomorrow at the hearing.
SHAKED
For us.
82.
GUY
There is something I need in return.
SHAKED
I thought we discussed it.
GUY
Something else.
GUY (CONT'D)
I met a girl.
Shaked smiles.
GUY (CONT'D)
From Gaza.
GUY (CONT'D)
She needs to get out of Israel.
Tonight. I need you to get her out.
SHAKED
You're kidding right?
SHAKED (CONT'D)
You are serious. I don't get it.
Who is she?
GUY
Just a girl who needs help. Someone
who deserves a chance.
SHAKED
Obviously not just a girl, if you
wake ME up in the middle of the night.
GUY
She is unwed and pregnant. She can't
go back to Gaza. It's an honor thing.
SHAKED
When did you start hanging in Gaza?
GUY
It's nothing like that.
83.
SHAKED
You want me to help someone I never
met. A Palestinian. Why didn't you
bring her here?
GUY
She is in Tel Aviv.
SHAKED
That's where you met her?
GUY
Yes.
SHAKED
Why didn't you introduce her to me
when I came to your mother's house?
Guy bites his lip. His answer might have been a mistake.
GUY
Well it wasn't an issue until...
GUY (CONT'D)
If you want me to face them, I need
you to do this for me.
SHAKED
Are you sure you know what you're
doing?
GUY
A hundred percent.
SHAKED
Let me make a phone call.
Shaked takes a cup and walks out of the room sipping on it.
All is quiet.
He turns back.
TALI
So.
SHAKED
Look what we found.
SHAKED (CONT'D)
Aiding a fugitive? Terrorism?
Treason? Life as you know it is over.
Are you ready to tell me the truth?
GUY
She didn't do any thing wrong.
85.
SHAKED
I don't know if I should slap you
for being so stupid or kiss you for
handing this to me.
GUY
(To Shaked)
It's just one phone call Shaked.
NAAMA
I'll do it.
TALI
Gabi!
SHAKED
Go ahead. Do it.
SHAKED (CONT'D)
Not that easy to die alone, is it?
SHAKED (CONT'D)
You get her out today. For good.
But you better deliver for me in
that hearing.
GUY
Yes, sir.
It BARKS at a
PILE OF CRATES
RAWHI
Go get it.
FAYYAD
Ouch! Something bit me.
RAWHI
You see it?
FAYYAD
I'm not so sure this dog knows what
it's doing.
87.
The big dog tugs Rawhi onward. The two men follow the animal.
The big dog leads Rawhi and Fayyad to the back of the building
where Naama hid her bomb and takes them to the large AC unit.
Rawhi yanks the dog back and motions for Fayyad to search.
FAYYAD
This isn't it.
RAWHI
Keep looking.
Fayyad reaches back even further and touches the long coat.
He pulls it out.
FAYYAD
You're a genius.
NAAMA
In five hours. I'll call you from
Canada. Mama... Promise. Love you
too.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
We have to make a stop.
Fayyad gets out of the car and starts walking towards the
cafe.
RAWHI
When? Canada? Are you sure?
The tires screech as the SUV jets out and stops by Fayyad.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
Get in.
FAYYAD
But...
GUY
Is everything ok? Naama? Naama?
NAAMA
Yes. It's ok.
GUY
What's wrong?
NAAMA
Nothing.
NAAMA (CONT'D)
Nothing. I promise. Let's go.
FAYYAD
This is so exciting.
RAWHI
Don't fucking blink until we're in.
FAYYAD
This isn't much of a last meal.
RAWHI
Did you hear me?
FAYYAD
Ahh. Yes. Yes. Don't blink.
RAWHI
Repeat what I just said.
FAYYAD
I wait over there --
FAYYAD (CONT'D)
And when you take your sunglasses
off I go and press the button.
RAWHI
Go where?
90.
FAYYAD
The other side of the airport. As
far away as possible from you.
RAWHI
Good.
FAYYAD
Then?
RAWHI
Then you're in heaven, this airport
shuts down, and I'll take care of
this bitch.
GUY
Nervous?
Naama nods.
GUY (CONT'D)
Don't worry. Israeli's are the best
pilots in the world.
RAWHI
RAWHI
Mother fucker.
FAYYAD
I want lots of falafel. Really stuff
it. Make it really hot.
NAAMA
What do we say now?
GUY
May God be with you.
GUY (CONT'D)
I was never good at good-byes. But
you deserve this. Both of you.
NAAMA
We can't thank you enough.
GUY
How about a lifetime supply of your
humus?
NAAMA
Promise.
GUY
Go before I'm tempted to keep you.
GUARD
Ma'am please step inside.
RAWHI
Fucking buffoon.
He abandons his hiding spot and follows Guy.
FAYYAD
This shit is hot.
FAYYAD (CONT'D)
Fuck it.
CLANG!
RAWHI
(To himself)
Guy Gonen. Nice to meet you.
RAHWI
(To himself)
Fucking combat pilot.
Naama heads for the sign "ALL GATES THIS WAY >" but she does
a double take when she spots...
FAYYAD
JUMA (V.O.)
Only Allah knows what your bomb will
lead to.
RAWHI
Mazel tov.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
I hear Israeli combat pilots go
through two weeks of solid training
(MORE)
94.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
on how to handle captivity. Tell
me. How real does it feel when you
know it's only make believe?
GUY
What the fuck is this? Who are you?
RAWHI
Careful who you let into your car.
You sure you don't know who I am?
RAWHI (CONT'D)
Let's try this again.
Rawhi smashes an elbow into Guy's ear. CRACK! Guy falls
back. He makes a real effort to stay alert.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
How real does that feel?
RAWHI (CONT'D)
What did she tell you?
GUY
Who?
RAWHI
What are you a fucking owl? Who?
Who? Naama.
GUY
I don't know any Naama.
RAWHI
You sure?
GUY
Hundred percent.
RAWHI
Do you know why Naama came to Tel
Aviv or you're just a self-hating
Jew? Egypt. The Inquisition. The
holocaust. And you're still around.
You cockroaches come back after two
millennia acting like you own the
place. Who said this is your land?
GUY
I was born here.
RAWHI
Doesn't make a fucking difference.
GUY
What do you want?
RAWHI
I want you dead. All of you.
GUY
They already tried it. You said it
yourself.
RAWHI
I would start with you. But I think
you are worth more alive.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
Put them on.
NAAMA
Let it go, Fayyad.
96.
FAYYAD
Not till I get my virgins.
NAAMA
I'm with you. I'm on your side.
FAYYAD
Bullshit. Rawhi told me about your
Jew.
NAAMA
Rawhi?
FAYYAD
He came here for you both.
FAYYAD
This is my bomb.
DANG! He strikes Rawhi in the face and grabs the hand holding
the gun. They fight for control.
Fayyad breaks free, but loses his balance and crashes into a
table. He knocks everything over.
NAAMA
A bomb! He's got a bomb!
KAPOW!
The two men pummel each other. Each connecting punch breaks
the other man's body.
Naama runs across the lot. She spots Guy's car tucked in
the far corner and jets to it.
One dire blow to the throat takes Rawhi down. Guy charges,
but Rawhi holds him off with his leg.
BANG! BANG!
RAWHI
Not bad for a Jewish fly boy.
98.
NAAMA
No!
Rawhi grabs her, pulls her in, and shoves her into the back
seat.
RAWHI
Un-fucking believable. Crazy bitch.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
This is so much more intimate, no?
RAWHI (CONT'D)
Sssshhh. Sssshhh. Almost done.
She forces herself free, and attacks him with the stick.
Naama comes after him, she spots his gun and grabs it.
RAWHI (CONT'D)
Come on little tiger. You don't
have it in you. Remember?
She cries over his fallen form, but Guy moves slightly.
NAAMA
You're alive?
GUY
How...
NAAMA
Don't ask. I'm sorry.
GUY
For saving me? You need to leave.
Your flight.
NAAMA
I'm not leaving you. Not like this.
GUY
Haven't felt this good in a long
time.
GUY (CONT'D)
Papers won't matter if you're caught.
Go. I'll live.
NAAMA
I lo -- Never forget you, Guy.
FADE OUT:
Everything is BLACK.
FAYYAD
Thank you, Allah.
FAYYAD
FAYYAD (CONT'D)
Are you here to prepare me?
DARK MAN
May I question him now?
YOUNG BLONDE
I need to get the doctor first.
FAYYAD
(To Young Blond)
Who is he? Why is he disturbing us?
FAYYAD (CONT'D)
Shit.
The El-AL airplane flies towards the bright bold sun that
washes it out
NAAMA (V.O.)
I had a dream how life would be.
101.
The ARRIVALS are spilling out of the gates into the terminal.
Naama lights up. She has the biggest smile in the crowd.
FADE OUT:
THE END
