16 Introduction
17
18 Empty space is most significant and a key concept to electronically process text of the Veda and other
19 India heritage literature. It is best to have the text in some transliteration scheme using a simple QWERT
20 keyboard and Roman characters. Software converting this into Indian scripts can always be used later
21 or simultaneously. The best available software is Baraha with multiple Indian language script capability.
22 Itranslator has capability only for Devanagari script.
23
24 Usually transliteration text is input into a text or word processor. It is best to key in directly or transfer
25 text into spreadsheets and use the already available power of spreadsheet software to process and use
26 analytical techniques including advanced statistical analysis.
27
28 Using the 'text to columns command' and space character as the seperator it is possible to obtain each
29 word in each line of text in a document in a separate column. And this can be used for study and research
30 by anybody using a home computer.
31
32 This paper describes a methodology for obtaining a list of all the words and an index of all references to their
33 presence in an electronic format of the entire Rig Veda Samhita. The work was done in about 10 days time!
34 This document is illustration and shows actual method adopted for one column.
35
36 The 10 Mandala of the text was obtained from http://www.sanskrit-documents.org.
37

53 1 This document is in spreadsheet and / or PDF file
54 If you have this document in the spreadsheet format you can use this as template.
55
56 If you have a PDF file then you can make your own spreadsheet by copy and paste

57 into your spreadsheet software. Actual data is truncated for this example.
58
59 2 Each sheet has description and working details
60
61 3 Significant features in this method are for
62 3.1 Using sort for arranging automatically generated sub totals for groups of
63 words for further work
64 3.2 Using spreadsheet formula for obtaining concatenated horizontal list of references
65 for citation, reference and analysis
66 3.3. Using different software tools to facilitate methodical research
67 3.4 The file size is large to display method but helps to cross check with original
68 in print document and emphasize need for using this method.

1 7 Subtotals are added by program in a new row below each group - We need to get these in same row as last item of a group
2 <1> 2 columns are added (1) Control this sheet - This is filled with series of numbers till end of block of data copied
3 <2> 1 Additional Column at end is added for Frequency
4 <3> A new Data Range is defined for block with all columns
5 <4> Data is sorted ascending on on PadaM1 - All subtotals will be in beginning of column
6 <5> All the subtotals are selected and moved one column to the right (Freq. column)
7 <6> Data is sorted now on Control_This_sheet - This brings back to original state except that subtotals are in separate column
8 <7> The entire column with subtotals is selected and moved only one row up to be in same row as last item in group
9 <8> All data is copied now to next sheet
