The youth of the North Eastern states in India face many challenges when it comes
to skills and employment opportunities. Lack of training infrastructure, constraints in
accessing education and thin industry presence, limit the employment opportunities
for them. Government of India has therefore put a special thrust on providing good
quality skills programs and linkages to jobs for the youth of the region.
In alignment with this vision, IL&FS Skills launched its second IL&FS Institute of
Skills (IIS) in Shillong, Meghalaya on April 23rd 2013. The IIS was inaugurated by
Mr. WMS Pariat IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya. He was joined by
Mr. KN Kumar IAS, Principal Secretary, Community & Rural Development & Fisheries,
Ms. L. Kharkongor IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of Commerce &
Industries and Mr. Shamit Chakravarti from the Asian Development Bank.

I am thankful to IL&FS Skills for where I am today

Meena Saket District Sidhi, Madhya Pradesh

When I first visited the IL&FS mobile camp on skills programs available in my district, I was nervous
being unaware of the opportunities available to me in the local job market. As an orthopedically
disabled person, I had lost all hope of ever getting a chance to work and be independent. My family
of five survives on the single income of my father.
The IL&FS Skills team worked tirelessly with me to understand my areas of interest and got me
enrolled for a vocational training program in the BPO sector at the IL&FS Skills School (ISC) Sidhi in
Madhya Pradesh. Today, I am working with Aegis BPO, earning Rs.6,500 a month of which I send
Rs.1,000/- back to my parents every month. My family is proud of my achievements and I would like
to continue learning more. I am thankful to IL&FS Skills for where I am today.
Editors Note: Meena Saket is one of our many students who were unable to participate in the mainstream employment
market due to several challenges in acquiring skills and education. She is today working with Aegis BPO, Bhopal and is
one of their star performers.
