The Story of the Three Little Pigs
Symbol: What does each house stand for?
Each little pig has his own characteristics, his own personality that shapes and mold the path that
he is going on and each one builds a house that actually symbolizes a certain type of character
and quality of his life.
The Story of the Three Little Pigs can be taken as a depiction of the materials or foundation
that we use to shape our lives.

Straw: Flammable, light and not strong enough of a material to have any integrity in the
fabric. Integrity is doing the right thing and taking responsibility for the wrong. The first
pig seeks immediate gratification, without a thought for the future and the dangers of reality.

Sticks: The sticks represent your insecurity about your weaknesses. This idea comes from
the symbolism of a tree. The roots of the tree are what we believe about ourselves. The
trunk represents our feelings and the branches represent our actions.

Bricks: Hay and sticks are natural materials. Brick is not but it is made up of natural
materials. In other words, brick symbolizes your natural strengths after they have been
combined, formed, and molded.

Theme: What is the moral of the story?

The clever and playful third pig outwits the wolf several times. The child, who throughout the
story has been invited to identify with one of its protagonists, is not only given hope, but is told
that through developing his intelligence he can be victorious over even a much stronger
opponent.

Point of View: What is the wolfs perspective?
The story provides Wolf's hard to believe version of what happened when he encountered the
three little pigs, narrated in a first person point of view. Al plays the victim card and tricks you
into thinking, by the way he presents himself to the reader, that he has been framed. Being
written in this point of view makes it the much more personal, it makes it easier to hook the
reader by showing everything as if seeing it through Alexanders lens.
Characterization: What is the characterization of Alexander T. Wolf? Does he seem
trustworthy?
Why or why not?
The wolf is represented as an intellectual with his matter-of-fact explanation of his side. The
comical innocence of the wolf is clear in the story, while the events relating to the demise of the
pigs' homes is slightly out of focus. Being represented with a much more vivacious tone and
comradery make it easy to sympathize with. It turns the favorite porkers' story upside-down
playing the innocent card. The first person point of view allows you to bond with the wolf and to
be entertained and connect with his side of the story. Seeming to be a trustworthy character.
