Crystolive Wax is a wax present in the unsaponifiable
fraction of Olive oil. Thanks to a special process of
separation and purification developed by CRM
International, it results in a medium melting point, semitransparent glossy wax having excellent skin feel, skin
absorption and spreading characteristics.

Unsaponifiables of Olive - Interactions with skin metabolism

Crystolive Wax structure is designed to mimic the stratum corneum matrix organisation, often described as a
bricks-and- mortar, by creating a multilayer lamellar (Norlen, 2001).
Thanks to this particular structure Crystolive Wax penetrates in the upper layer of the stratum corneum and
interacts to maintain the barrier function.

Rich in squalene, natural tocopherols, sterol esters and triterpene alcohols, Crystolive Wax is a unique
ingredient with structuring properties.
In penetrating into the upper skin layers, Crystolive Wax diffuses its active molecules into the lamellar
structure of the intercellular matrix.
Crystolive Wax has a protective role on the skin where it can act as a free radical scavenger and antioxidant.
Thanks to sterol esters and triterpene alcohols, it plays a structural role in the lipidic cement of the stratum
corneum, in the depth of dermal layers, and thus participates to maintain the skin in healthy conditions.
Crystolive Wax participates also to sooth the skin.

Crystolive Wax improves the skin feel of the finished products and can impart excellent gloss to products.
The end sensation is characterised by very light texture, silky touch, smoothness at application, easy
absorption and no greasiness.

High compatibility with the lipids of the skin - good delivery action
Crystolive Wax structure mimics the Stratum Corneum matrix organisation, often described as a bricksand- mortar, by creating a lamellar multilayer. This similarity generates an exceptional compatibility with
the skin and improves penetration of biologically-active molecule.

Skin protection
Due to the presence of Squalene, also present in the sebum, Crystolive Wax helps to reform the
hydrolipidic film and thus is a vital element in skin protection.
Squalene is also known to be a radical scavenger and so protects the skins surface from oxidative
damaged caused by sunrays.

Consistency factor which helps to stabilise emulsions and adjust viscosity

Crystolive Wax presents high compatibility with most ingredients. It has thickening and gel forming
properties for oil phases and silicone
Crystolive Wax provides emulsions with fine particle size.
Due to its structure, Crystolive Wax creates a crystal network which provides stability to the formulation.

Spreading aid for lipsticks

The structure of the stick obtained with Crystolive Wax is very robust but not fragile, in contrast, traditional
waxes give a hard and fragile stick. Due to excellent mechanical properties, when applied to the skin, the
stick spreads well and provides a soft and creamy touch. Thus Crystolive Wax in lipsticks can play a
double role: as a medium melting point ingredient and as a structure builder without hardness.

Thickening and gel forming properties

The evaluation of the thickening and gel-forming properties of Crystolive Wax leads to the conclusion that
the highest thickening effect is observed with fatty alcohols, triglycerides and esters of high polarity while a
lower effect is observed with hydrocarbons.
Crystolive Wax has a high gelling effect with castor oil and provides a creamy, butter-like structure.

Skin care :

sun care products.

Hair care :

Participates in the nourishment of hair bulbs, so promotes hair growth

Alleviates dryness of the hair and scalp
Gives brightness and shine to hair
Conditioners, creams.
Recommended level of use : 0,5 6%

Lipsticks, lipbalms

The wax provides creaminess and body perceptions which are typical of
butters. Moreover, it provides structure to products without excess of
hardness.
Recommended level of use : 2 15%

Eyeliner, mascaras

Crystolive Wax has interesting plasticizing properties and helps the

film-forming effect.
Recommended level of use : 1 4%
