Big Idea Statement


The land in the Midwest is great for farming due to the
fertile soil.
The Midwest has five specific landforms, which are
rivers, lakes, mountains, prairies, and the badlands.
The Midwest is home to severe climate forms such as
tornadoes.

What is fertile soil?
What are the landforms of the Midwest?
What is the climate like in the Midwest?
Key Vocabulary
Fertile- filled with vitamins and minerals that plants need
to grow.
Prairie- a plain covered by grasses and wildflowers.
Rivers- body of water that flows through states from
north to south.
Lakes- landform created by glaciers that melted.
Mountains- Landform on the western region of the
Midwest.
Badlands- landform of dry land that was worded by wind,
rain, sand, and water, which created canyons.
Tornadoes- a mobile, destructive vortex of violently
rotating winds having the appearance of a funnelshaped cloud and advancing beneath a large storm
system.
Lesson Procedure
The students will participate in an activity to wrap up the
geography section of the Midwest.
The students will be split up into three groups for a
Jeopardy review game based off of the entire first
section of geography.
Each group will have the opportunity to answer a
question.
The game will be played from 1:15-1:35.
Once the game has finished, the quiz will be
administered to the students where they have from
1:40- 1:50 to finish the assessment.
The teacher will pass out the assessment for the
geography of the Midwest.
The students will independently fill in the blanks of the
missing vocabulary words

Independent Practice

Students will complete the assessment independently by


filling in all of the open blanks.
Students will then participate in a jeopardy game.
Students will be split up into five groups.

Adaptations/Accommodations for Students with Special Needs


For learning support students the teacher will read the
test directions orally to help the understanding of what
expectations are for the quiz.
A word bank was also displayed for students to help
narrow the vocabulary of the assessment.
Groups are heterogeneous to let the students naturally
accommodate for lower leveled learners.
