I. PRELIMINARY INFORMATION
Organization Vision and Mission
Comprised of excellent culturally-oriented leaders rooted in Ignatian values and
Organization
Filipino-Chinese traditions, Celadon envisions a Filipino-Chinese community
Vision
geared towards nation building.
At Ateneo Celadon, our mission is to be an organization that inspires to
develop purpose-driven leaders for nation building through social change
Organization
imbued with Filipino-Chinese principles. Our passion for leadership
Mission
development and cultural-rootedness enables us to create a positive social
impact in aspects that only Ateneo Celadon can.

Direction and Thrust for the School Year

Organization Ateneo Celadon aims to expand its reach and be of greater social significance
Thrust for
through strategic externalization with the continued integration of Filipino2014-2015
Chinese principles and traditions.
Last school year, Celadon focused on internal issues, which included revamping systems and
creating HR initiatives for member involvement. As such, this year we would like to build on
that, but focus more on an aspect that has plagued Celadon for year on year, which is the lack of
externalization efforts. Celadon, as we know it, has been focused too much on itself that it has
become somewhat irrelevant to the greater community of Ateneans. It is not able to expand
because it has not been reaching new markets or gaining new insights on what is happening
beyond its walls. This is similar to what transpired in China back in the 1960s wherein they were
pursuing isolationist policies.
To be able to expand and become A Greater Celadon, two things were important: namely,
nation-building and externalization. We believe nation-building efforts are exceedingly important
so that we can become relevant and impactful to the Ateneo community. This is our way of
changing age-old traditions and placing a modern, social twist to them in order to create a
positive social impact in the Filipino-Chinese way. It is also our way on going back to our
foundation, which is to create the nation-builders of tomorrow by using the Filipino-Chinese
culture and heritage.
The second important factor in our thrust is externalization: specifically, externalization through
building new partner organizations and companies in order to create grander projects with the
increase of support and resources. This externalization, however, should focus on two things: (1)
business development and (2) social impact. By increasing partner organizations, we could
achieve more projects with the same amount of project managers. In addition, by increasing
partner companies, we could make our projects grander in scale to create a more significant
impact to members and nonmembers alike. Through externalization, as well, we are able to reach
new markets, thereby providing an avenue for our members to know more about the Celadon

experience. Externalization also provides an avenue for nonmembers to know Celadon in

general, thereby piquing their interest in joining and being part of the Celadon community.
During the crafting of the thrust, we believed and continue to believe that Celadon is ready to
come out of its shell and regain its lost glory, making its way to becoming the best student
organization in the Ateneo again.

Organizational Chart
Ateneo Celadon accomplished its goals effectively for the A.Y. 2014-2015. It would not have
been possible without the effective and efficient task management afforded by the
departmentalized structure that the Executive Board has. Cultural Affairs, External Affairs,
Financial Affairs, and Human Resources managed the projects under them well.
Communications and Publications delivered the promos and documentations with style.
Corporate Relations threw in heavy support to obtain the marketing targets for the projects. All
six departments achieved their function with the robust leadership from the President and
Executive Vice President.
Late last academic year, the organization underwent restructuring, especially in the Executive
Board level. To bolster the strengths of the current structure, the Executive Board approved of
the partition of the Communications and Publications department (CNP) into the
Communications department (COM) and the Publications department (PUB) respectively. In
order to maintain the stability afforded by the current years structure, when a position for the
Vice President of Publications was opened, the Associate Vice President slots that were two
under the original CNP department were split between the two new ones. The overall result is an
Executive Board in the A.Y. 2015-2016 that is 19-men strong.
Key changes were as follows:
1) Division of the Communications and Publications (CNP) department into certain
departments into the Communications department (COM) and the Publications
department (PUB) respectively.
2) In replacement of the CNP VP and CNP AVP, introduction of four next Executive
Board positions: Vice President for Communications, Associate Vice President for
Communications, Vice President for Publications, and Associate Vice President for
Publications
The rationale behind this move involves the following: workload, leadership, and influence. The
workload within the original department was heavy, involving the disparate disciplines within
promotion (i.e. graphic design, photography, web development) and publication (i.e. journalism,
creative writing, layouting). Expanding the organizations operations is a must, especially with the
incoming 30th year anniversary of Ateneo Celadon. Furthermore, the leadership needs to
understand the various disciplines within the department under their supervision; therefore,
there is no better way to go forward but a partition.
With this set-up in mind, the COM department can focus more with the information
dissemination and the public relations activities that are inherent with it. More attention can be
paid to the alternate avenues for communication that have not seen as much growth, such as the
Celadon Website, EDSA Board, e-mail blasts, and newsletters. The PUB department, on the

other hand, can focus on promoting the organizations events indirectly through timely article
posts and on documenting the events.
The publication will also write much content that will represent the voice of the Celadoneans
and will pique the interest of Ateneans. The materials made in the new PUB department will also
be published in print, extending the reach of the organization, as a method of fulfilling its
primary function of spreading the Filipino-Chinese culture. The result is a potentially influential
two-pronged approach to greater visibility that bolsters what Ateneo Celadon stands for.

Project Description and Outcome

The Great Binondo Amazing Race is basically an
amazing race that aims to immerse all the
participants in the Chinese Filipino culture
through a very engaging and fun way, which
involves going throughout Binondo. This project
was done in partnership with Manila Downtown
Youth Club.
The first Chinese New Year festival was held in
order to share the unique Filipino-Chinese
tradition that has assimilated itself into the whole
of Filipino society. It aimed to celebrate the onset
of the Lunar New Year with the entire Ateneo
community. As a treat, CNY showcased both Lion
and Dragon dances, a Wushu exhibition, and a
cooking demo for the Ateneo community to see.
During the event, Ateneans from Gonzaga,
Berchmans, and Kostka Halls all watched and
took videos of the performances. CNY concluded
with a culminating night that comprised of food
and performances. The event was able to capture
the interest of the Ateneo community and help
them appreciate the unique culture of the FilipinoChinese.
This is a financial summit that was done in
partnership with Philam Life in order to help the
Ateneo community manage their finances. It
aimed to showcase modern Filipino-Chinese
culture in saving money and making the most out
of it. More than 400 people were in attendance for
this event.
The annual Rose Sale is one of Celadon's flagship
fundraising projects. This year offered more
unique services, as they provided Ateneans with
the back-up they needed come Valentine's Day.
The project was generally successful, earning
enough profit to fund the remaining projects of
last school year.
The 8th Spring Film Festival is a collaborative
effort of Ateneo Celadon and the Ricardo Leong
Center for Chinese Studies in order to increase
awareness and interest on the Chinese culture
through the relatable medium of film. The 8th SFF
Gala night was well attended by members of the
Ateneo Board of Trustees, Fr. Ben Nebres,
foreign dignitaries, and members of the press.

The year-end ball is a culminating event of

Celadon, which highlights the closure of another
grateful and blessed year. In this event, every
Celadonean is able to bond with friends and meet
new people over good food and music. The event
ended with a bang with more than a hundred
Celadoneans participating in the event. In fact, a
good dozen of sponsors even came to cheer and
show gratitude for the great year. The event
received a good feedback, as there was an
approximate of 80 percent thumbs up.
The Alumni Gathering is a chance for the alumni
of the organization to share their knowledge to the
younger generation while also going back to the
organization that they love.
The Social Change through Business Youth
Forum 2014 (SCBYF), a collaboration between
Loyola Catalyst and Celadon, aspired to provide a
venue for promising young leaders to be
introduced with the concept of social
entrepreneurship. The conference served as an
opportunity for student leaders to share their
leadership experiences, interact with social
entrepreneurs, and discuss key issues pertaining to
Philippine society. The event was well-attended
with over 100 delegates nationwide.
In line with the Brigada Eskwela campaign of
Department of Education, The Kwela Pa-Eskwela
project aimed to provide the students of Lupang
Pangako Elementary School in Quezon City with
newly painted clean rooms and school supplies for
the school year. This marked the start as well of
the REACH Program. More than 200 students
benefited from this outreach.
The Recruitment Week serves as an avenue to
creatively represent the organization and recruit
new members in a weeklong event organized by
COA. More than 900 members were recruited this
year, making it the most in Celadon history.
CelaFest is a four-day general assembly that aimed
to welcome and orient the new members of
Ateneo Celadon to the various projects and
important systems in place, such as the point
system. This year, it was divided into three (3) days
of tambay for casual bonding, and the last day as
the main culminating event. The event was
developed to introduce the members to what
Celadon is about and what its projects are.

JuMP is a seven-series training program that

recruits members through a stringent application
process. It is the primary entry point into being
active in the organization: equipping managers-tobe with a preliminary knowledge and experience
on how to run a project, as well as letting them
have fun with fellow members in this journey of
growth. This years program increased its number
of junior managers to sixty.
This was a tree planting activity done in
Congressional Avenue, which was sponsored by
the Chinese Filipino Business Club. This activity
served as part of the REACH Program of the
organization.
The Marketing Seminar Series comes in two
installations with two sessions under each one
with the goal of introducing the members to the
world of marketing in an organizational
perspective. The seminars would equip them with
the basic set of skills, knowledge, and training in
becoming future leaders of the Corporate
Relations office. The seminars have been attended
by the Executive Board and by over 70
participants for both installations. The Marketing
Seminar has also produced at least 10 participants,
who have continued on with the Marketing
Executives Program.
The National Social Enterprise Congress (NSEC),
a collaboration between Loyola Catalyst and
Celadon, is an annual gathering of interested social
entrepreneurs all over the country. The theme of
the event was to Build I.D.E.A.S. - Innovative
Designs: Economical, Attainable and Sustainable.
This year had more than 200 delegates nationwide
with 8 teams participating in the contest that
followed the congress.
Cooking with Mama was a sustainable
livelihood education program that is part of
the Celadon REACH program. It is an
initiative of the organization to help build the
nation one step at a time. The mothers in
Lupang Arenda were taught how to make and
compute for the cost of siopao, bicho bicho,
and doughnuts. Around 40 to 50 mothers
were taught how to make their livelihood
more sustainable.
The Finance Seminar was a comprehensive talk
about personal finance for students. The speaker

was Mr. Cliff Cabungcal, Philippine Bank of

Communications Head of Investment Strategy
and Research. He gave his insights on how
students can invest to earn money. The seminar
was both informative and fun since the
participants were able to learn more about
personal finance.

The three-day celebration had a cultural exhibit
during the morning, and it culminated with a
traditional dice game on its last night. This year,
more than 800 people visited the morning
festivities and more 250 people were in attendance
for the culminating night. During the culminating
night, tables were filled, people were fed, and a lot
of prizes were given away through the traditional
Chinese dice game.
TAW was an effort to show gratitude to the
teachers and staff of the Loyola Schools, alongside
the celebration of Confucius birthday. In the
effort to do so, lanyards specific to each of the
schools (SOH, SOM, SOSE, and SOSS) were
given as tokens to all of the professors and
secretaries in campus. As a treat, special
recognition awards were given to teachers, who
were nominated and voted upon by the entire
student population of the Loyola Schools. In
summary, TAW was able to garner around 5,000
votes for the teacher awards and give out over 900
lanyards to the professors and secretaries.
The annual Celadon shirt-selling project aims to
provide additional funds through the selling of
Celadon-inspired shirts. The project was able to
generate about PHP 20,000.00 worth of profit in
order fund the first semester projects of the
organization.
This workshop had three phases, and it featured a
well-renowned Fine Arts professor Meneer
Marcelo, who lectured interested students on the
basics of Photoshop. It was well attended, and it
got mostly positive feedback from the attendees.
Through this workshop, members emerged with a
greater understanding on creativity, art, and

finding sponsors for the Elements Privilege Card.
The Leadership Development Program is a twoday event held outside the school. It served as the
main avenue for members and managers to
develop their project management skills and
teamwork through challenging and high-pressure
tasks. The program had over 60 participants, who
upheld the values of the organization, as they
continued learning how to become its future
leaders.

Celadons new fundraiser project was a remake of
one of its old projects, which was the Celadon
Rummage Sale. Santas Attic Christmas Bazaar,
held in Christ the King Parish, attracted both
Ateneans and outsiders to join the event either as
a stall owner or as a Christmas shopper. The event
was hugely successful and was advertised in
several articles about bazaars. The bazaar had also
generated about PHP 40,000 of additional funds
for the organizations second semester projects.
Strokes is the arts and calligraphy competition for
high school and elementary students. This year,
the project was able to garner various participants
from several Filipino-Chinese schools all over
Metro Manila. It was also the first time that the
project had an interactive tour of the campus
grounds in order to further cultivate these young
students interest in applying to the Ateneo. In the
end, the project was able to provide these young
students a venue wherein they can showcase their
skills and talents while also introducing them to
the Loyola Schools.
The Taipan National Business Summit is a
national conference industry leaders of different
reputable companies shared their knowledge on
how they were able to get to the top position of
their respective fields. The speakers also talked
about how they created a positive social impact for
the Philippine community. This year marks the

one of the biggest and most awaited privilege
cards in the Ateneo with more than 500 partner
establishments and with its current partnership
with ZAP. The privilege card has paid attention to
detail by ensuring that each card has been
personalized with the organization's members'
names. The Elements Privilege Card serves both
as a means for members to get discounts in their
favorite establishments and as a point-earning card
with ZAP's cash-back system. The Elements
Privilege Card can be used in different key areas
such as the Ateneo, Katipunan Avenue, UP Town
Center, and Metro Manila under ZAP.

achieving this goal.

companies, which made the projects even

grander in scale.
Similarly, the continuous efforts of the Finance
department to raise additional funds for the
organization have also been very successful.
Aside from the yearly fundraising projects like
Shirt and Lanyard Selling and the upcoming
Rose Sale, which are highly internal and caters
to the Ateneo community, the new fundraising
projects focuses more on externalizing and
tapping into the market outside of Ateneo. The
new projects have also shown to be sustainable
for the coming years and will generate a steady
flow of income for the organization.
Sufficient financial resources from these
departments mean that projects will have
sufficient funds in order to cover their expenses
and make sure that projects will run smoothly.

Recommendations:
1. Capitalize on the upcoming 30th year of Ateneo Celadon in order to draw the attention of
more sponsors and new fundraising projects.
2. Continue offering yearlong and semester-long marketing packages to attract more
companies.
3. Come up with more fundraising activities that will cater to a bigger market outside
Ateneo.

Program, which is a 7 part outreach series.

This is designed in line with our thrust and
core competency which is to contribute to
nation building using Filipino-Chinese
principles. Through the REACH Program,
the organization aims to sustain several
partner livelihoods and help them year on
year.
Celadon had 19 project tie-ups with different
organizations this year. This is the most
number of partnerships Celadon had in its 29
years of history. Most of these partnerships
centered on business development and social
impact. Our external partnerships are with
AFiCS, the Federation of Filipino-Chinese
Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc
(FFCCCII), Chinoy TV, Saint Jude Alumni
Association, Miss Chinatown Foundation,
Manila Downtown YMCA Youth Club, and
Rotaract Club of Chinatown Manila. Internal
partnerships include Leong Center for
Chinese Studies, Ateneo MEcO, AFARM,
Ateneo Assembly, Ateneo Speed, Ateneo
CoSA, ASEC, AJMA, MEA, Catalyst, LSOP,
and AIESEC ADMU, Blue Consulting Group
among others. This contributes to around 10
internal and 9 external partnerships. The
reason behind the 19 partnerships was the
goal of increasing and extending the reach of
the organization in order to cater more
towards our members and the Ateneo
community.

communities such as Payatas, Lupang Arenda,

and Corazon de Jesus among others. Around 80
of our members were able to participate in the
different programs. Celadon REACH was
successful in ingraining in them the value of
helping others and creating shared value
through modern Filipino-Chinese practices,
such as entrepreneurship. As of the writing of
this report, the REACH Program was able to
impact more than 550 people outside the
Ateneo. This outreach series serves an avenue
for them to realize the slogan of Celadon, which
is nation building through culture.
The Alumni Gatherings helped the alumni and
the volunteers to interact and create a longlasting relations with each other. This helped
the alumni impart their knowledge to the
younger generations and also contribute to its
finances through the solicitation of support
from them.
Our partnerships, which focused on (1)
business development and (2) social impact,
gave our members additional avenues to realize
their leadership potential through the modern
Filipino-Chinese culture of entrepreneurship.
Through these partnerships, we were able to
immerse our members and nonmembers alike
on what it means to do nation building through
culture.

Celadon had one alumni gathering for the

first semester last September 27, 2014 at the
Greenhills Uno Seafood Restaurant. There
were more than 40 participants in the event,
which boasts by far the most number of
attendees in any alumni gathering of Celadon.
There will be another alumni gathering this
coming February 28, 2015, and we are
expecting to have more than 50 participants.
Recommendations:
1. Maintain the momentum of having a lot of outreaches, but try to focus on key
communities so that the effects will be better and be more sustainable.
2. Be more aggressive in getting good partnerships outside Ateneo.

16

3. Continue to have at least two alumni gatherings for the year so that the current
Celadoneans can still have the opportunity to build relations with the alumni and also
create an avenue wherein the alumni can financially support the organization.

Core Competencies
Goal: Emphasis on Nation Building through

Traditions and Principles
To develop Celadonean leaders into becoming
catalysts of change in the greater Philippine society
integrated with the different aspects of FilipinoChinese traditions and principles.

Success Indicators:
1. To have at least seventy-five (75) Celadon members in total attend all the outreach-related
projects of the Ateneo Celadon.
2. To have at least two hundred (200) people attend each Financial Summit of Ateneo Celadon
for developing nationwide financial literacy in the greater Philippine community.
3. To be able to organize at least three (10) training modules throughout the year with at least
twenty (20) participants each.
Explanation
Our first core competency is exhibited in these
newly established projects namely the REACH
Program, the Business Summits, and the increase in
Training Modules we have this year.
For our REACH Program, 84 of our members
attended the series with the first two outreaches
having the most number of participants. The
decline of participants over the rest of the outreach
series can be attributed to other major Celadon
projects getting some of the participants and
academic fatigue. However, this number is a
significant increase from last years number of
approximately 20 participants in total. This marked
a 320% increase in member participation in our
socio-civic actions.

Impact on Participants
The REACH Program was able to
provide our members a perspective on
how it is to create value for others
through modern Filipino-Chinese culture
such as entrepreneurship. By using what
they learned from their classes, they were
able to apply it in our partner
communities, and as such, find a way to
be of social significance through the use
of their inherent heritage.

This application of their knowledge is

complemented by our several business
summits and seminars. Events like the

thrust which is nation building and externalization.
All of these projects are collaboration and exhibit a
social significance. The Taipan Summit and the
National Social Enterprise Congress (NSEC) both
garnered more than 200 participants each
nationwide while the other one garnered over 100
participants.
Lastly, we were able to organize 13 training
modules for our members. Among which include
the Junior Manager Program, the Leadership
Development Program, and the Marketing
Executives Program. The Junior Manager Program

mission, which is to create shared value
for the communities and marginalized
people. These events not only build our
members to be game changers of
tomorrow, but also make us relevant to
the Ateneo community by showcasing
modern Filipino-Chinese culture that has
a positive social impact.
Lastly, the various training modules
Celadon held this year was aimed to
develop our members leadership potential
to back up their social mission. Through
these trainings, Celadoneans greatly
improved
their
confidence
and
communication skills, which are vital for
them to become leaders of the
organization, thereby being able to
support the organization in its thrust.

Recommendations:
1. Increase the number of outreaches so that more members are able to attend and
experience what it means to help through their Filipino-Chinese culture.
2. Further improve the quality of existing national conferences to reach out to more people
and thus, be able to create a greater social impact.
3. Continue redefining on what it means to be modern. Modern Filipino-Chinese culture
is what it means to be relevant and to be able to cut across boundaries to create positive
social impact.

Success Indicators:
1. To be able to organize at least a five (5) part series that will introduce and raise awareness
on the different Chinese cultural traditions and events to the greater Ateneo community.
2. To be able to gather at least fifty (50) Ateneans to participate in an Ateneo-wide Celadon
event that aims to share traditional Filipino-Chinese culture that is celebrated with a modern
twist.
3. To be able to organize a school-wide event that promotes and encourages having good
values rooted in the traditional Chinese experience, for the benefit of the Filipino
community.
Explanation
Our second core competency is seen through
our increased efforts in making FilipinoChinese Culture relevant and visible to people
outside the organization. First is the media
exposure by revamping our website and
newsletter so that we can raise awareness of
the various Filipino-Chinese traditions.
Besides that, we are re-launching our
magazine and renaming it Elements as an
added means of raising awareness of the
organizations advocacies in the Ateneo
campus.

Impact on Participants
The impact of these projects is namely the
increase in relevance and the greater
understanding of the organization. It enabled
the Ateneo community and those outside
Ateneo to realize that Celadon is not just about
celebrating age-old traditions, but it is also
about transcending itself towards what is
modern and what is impactful. This is to show
that Celadon, through its projects, can also
make a difference in society using the FilipinoChinese traditions, which are inherent in its
members and projects.

Besides media communication tools, we have

established several new projects, such as the
Taipan Summit, NSEC, and SCBYF as a
means to share Filipino-Chinese Tradition
with a modern twist. This complements our
existing projects, such as the Mid-Autumn
Festival and Spring Film Festival, which we
made bigger through an increase in budget in
order to create a bigger impact to both our
members and nonmembers. All of these
projects contributed to more than 1,000
nonmembers participating in our projects this
year. This is a significant increase from last
years figures.

Because of the huge success and increased scale

of these projects, more people both inside and
outside Ateneo are now more aware of Celadon
and its activities. More people are now aware on
how they can positively create an impact to
society using the traditions and principles we
advocate.

These projects have shown that the FilipinoChinese Culture is rooted on significant positive
social values. Projects and initiatives this year
show that Celadon has gone beyond what is
normal and what is stereotypical to create a
social change that will benefit our members and
non-members, and thus contribute to building a

one of the greatest teachers in Chinese
history. This year, all 900+ staff and faculty
were given tokens of appreciation.
Recommendations:
1. Publish at least two (2) issues of Elements Magazine for the year. Start early and tackle
those issues that are important and relevant for readers in the Ateneo community.
2. Engage actively in Sanggunian affairs to be able to create an additional channel for the
organization to do its nation building activities.
3. Continue with Teachers Appreciation Week and the Business Summits and further
increase them in scale.

Taipan National Business Summit

In partnership with Ateneo Junior Marketing Association, Ateneo Celadon
developed the Taipan National Business Leaders Summit. It is a whole day
conference that gathered over 400 student leaders from high schools and
colleges from around the country in order to learn from the biggest and
esteemed names in the Filipino-Chinese business community. The theme
for this year was Rising through Business Innovations, and the speakers
discussed how they made it on top and how they contributed not only to
the growth of their companies, but also to that of the nation.
On its premier year, the Taipan National Business Leader Summit boasted
of a highly diverse mix of business leaders in their respective fields. The
speakers included the following: Kenneth Yang, the President and CEO of
Golden Arches Development Corp (McDonalds); Francis Kong, one of
the top motivational speakers of the country; Johnlu Koa, Founder and
CEO of The French Baker; Jonathan Gotianum, Director and Chairman of
Filinvest Development Corporation; and Ana Melissa Yao, the Managing
Director of Richprime Global, Inc.
The goal of this project was to promote the values of excellence and
innovation through sustainable development. As opposed to the usual
notion of seeing the corporate worlds practices as corrupt and immoral,
the project was organized in the hopes of showing that those who work in
this particular field actually have many opportunities to contribute to
society. The conferences aim was to mold the student leaders of today into
becoming the business leaders and national builders of tomorrow that will
help uplift the country through sound business practices and innovations.
The results of the project are very positive. After over 6 months of
preparation, the project was executed well, as it was able to welcome over
400 national participants. The 5 speakers were the top businessmen and
businesswomen of their respective fields. The projects reach was extensive
due to its utilization of the following media: print (Manila Bulletin and
BusinessWorld), TV (ChinoyTV), radio (Magic 89.9), and social media. The
project was also effective in member development, as it was able to give
the over 70 core members an opportunity to work on such a large-scale
national conference. Finally, the project was not only a great learning
experience for both the core team and for the participants, but it was also
able to generate over PHP 100,000 in profit for both AJMA and Celadon,
respectively.

Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival is a Filipino-Chinese tradition that is celebrated
every year in the Philippines and around the world. The unique aspect of
the Chinoy MAF is on how it has assimilated itself into the Philippine
setting. This years festival was divided into two parts. The first being a
Chinatown set-up that was situated in the Zen Garden. The second was the
Culminating Dice Game, which was held in the Leong Hall Roofdeck.
The Chinatown set-up showcased the Mid-Autumn tradition by setting-up
booths and activities that related to the mythological story of the festival
itself. The activities all aimed to increase knowledge, awareness, and
interest on what MAF is, and on how the Filipino-Chinese community
celebrates it. The culminating celebration of the Dice Game provided the
members of the Ateneo community a chance to bond, eat a delicious buffet
dinner, and win quality prizes from the game and raffle.
The project aims to provide interactive activities that will foster positive
and deeper awareness, understanding, and appreciation of Filipino-Chinese
culture and way of life. Likewise, it also aims to form and promote a
contemporary Chinoy culture that is more relevant to Filipino society. And
finally, it aims to provide a venue wherein the entire Ateneo community
can bond and have fun at the same time.
The results of the Mid-Autumn Festival this year are positive. During the
morning event, people were effectively engaged in the different activities
that the booths provided. Since the activities in the booths were related to
the reason behind MAF, the participation of people was able to strike two
birds with one stone. At one end, the project was able to reach out to as
many people as possible. On the other, these people either learned more or
deepened their knowledge and or appreciation for Filipino-Chinese culture
and tradition. To add, this years event had a number of sponsorsboth
cash and x-deal alike. MAF was able to maximize these sponsorships by
using x-deals as prizes and using cash as a means to fund the project itself.
A major improvement with this years Mid-Autumn Festival is the
considerable improvement in the culminating night. For one, the events
250 tickets were quickly sold out before the event even culminated.
Second, the prizes this year have greatly improved. These prizes included
Lock & Lock containers, various brands of chips and drinks, bluetooth
speakers, and a grand prize of a brand new, top-of-the-line Xiaomi Mi3
cellphone. Amidst the mountain of expenses, the project was able to earn
money that helped fund the upcoming projects of Ateneo Celadon. To
conclude, this years MAF was able to touch the lives of various Ateneans
by providing them a venue to bond, dine, and have fun both in the weeklong and culminating event. Considering all these, Mid-Autumn Festival
2014 was surely a successful event.

Teachers Appreciation Week

Teachers Appreciation Week is an annual activity that the Filipino-Chinese
community celebrates to commemorate the life of Chinas greatest teacher,
Confucius. In the case of Ateneo Celadon, TAW is an effort to show
gratitude to the mentors, and educators who have guided their students in
their journey in the Loyola Schools. This year, TAW made a number of
changes to the way of celebrating the occasion.

Description of
the Effort

Objectives

Results and
Evaluation

The token that was given to the teachers was a school specific (SOH,
SOM, SOSE, SOSS) lanyard. The lanyard design focused more on the
school identity, rather than on the Celadon branding. In this light, TAW
this year wanted to give a token that was more genuine in showing
appreciation. The special awards that this years TAW crafted leaned more
towards characteristics exhibited by certain characters in the movie Kungfu Panda. In this light, Teachers Appreciation Week returned to its very
core of being an occasion celebrated with a culturally Chinese undertone.
The project aims to increase the awareness of the Ateneo community
regarding the life, virtues, and teachings of Confucius. Along with this, it
also aims to provide students with an avenue to express their gratitude
through votes and gifts. Finally, it aims to engage the Ateneo community to
a festive occasion that is both culturally rooted, and socially relevant.
The results of Teachers Appreciation were quite positive. During the
distribution of tokens, Ateneo Celadon was able to prepare all of the
tokens a few days before the actual distribution of gifts. In terms of the
actual distribution, a manageable system was set-up to help facilitate a
method that helped with both inventory and accountability. The
distribution of the lanyards was made possible through the efforts of the
different people Celadonean and non-Celadonean, who wanted to give
back to their professors. At the end of the week, all the professors of the
Loyola Schools were given a token.
To add, special awards were also given to professors who were nominated
and voted for by the general student population. These awards did not just
come in the form of certificates; some professors also received gift
certificates (GCs), notebooks, and the like, from our different sponsors.
TAW basically used the sponsorships to either spend for the tokens, or to
use the ex-deals as special tokens. Among the unique trademarks of this
year's TAW is the concept of Teachers of Ateneo, which garnered
massive attention in social media. It is basically patterned to Humans of
New York and teachers were interviewed on different aspects about their
lives. Quotations and pictures of professors receiving the token and awards
served a function as an advertisement for the event itself.
The presence of Confucius was also given extra effort to this year. Celadon
posted different quotes and trivia about Confucius regularly to inform

23

everyone the rationale behind the celebration, which is actually because of

Confucius birthday. To end, the most important token of gratitude that
the professors received were the school lanyards that the organization gave
to them. A number of professors actually enjoy wearing the lanyards on a
daily basis and one can really see them around campus. Surely, Teachers
Appreciation Week was quite a success in its own right and had a
significant impact in the LS community as well.

24

IV. CONCLUSION
At the end of its 29th year, Celadon is now truly A Greater Celadon because of the thrust and
direction implemented by the leadership this year. We have achieved new and greater heights
because of several innovations and initiatives that were established this year. This year, we have
strengthened internal member development. Because of this, we have had a record breaking
900+ members, which is the most in Celadon history. Adding to that, we have around 90+
project elites, which is also the highest in history. We created the Executive Office as well, which
is directly under the President and Executive Vice President, to spearhead new initiatives
pertaining to the thrust of the organization.
For membership involvement, the Executive Office made the Celadon Choir, Celadon
Basketball Team, and the Celadon Dance Troupe to give our members a role in the organization.
This is to supplement current HR initiatives to boost their morale and loyalty to the
organization. We also made our existing projects grander in scale, which is clearly seen in our
projects such as the Mid-Autumn Festival and Teachers Appreciation Week to cater towards our
increased membership. There is also a planned team/coalition for Sanggunian affairs, which has
been shelved due to lack of manpower.
Besides membership development, we were able to become relevant to the Ateneo and outside
community as well. As said earlier, we established several groundbreaking social business
summits (Taipan, NSEC, SCYBF) and the REACH Program to enable us to realize this goal and
create a positive impact to the community. We also have supported initiatives such as AFARM
and the like to showcase our intention in becoming relevant and of social significance.
Lastly, externalization was at its height in this term. A total of 19 inter-organizational
partnerships, the most in Celadon history, were achieved this year. This has allowed us to
significantly increase our reach and expose us to more people. This has also allowed us to follow
through on our thrust with most of the partnerships being socially relevant. Partnerships with
these organizations have allowed us to create the FedRun, which is the first run we have coorganized and brought in a total of 13,000 runners. Besides FedRun, it has allowed us to create
high school chapters, which were never done before. Complementing this with our revamped
online tools and our re-launched magazine, we believe that we were able to share our advocacy
effectively and give our members various chances to develop themselves as well.
This year truly has been a year of strong growth and strong initiatives. Celadon is no longer a
sleeping dragon but a dragon ready to become of greater purpose. Hopefully, with this
expansion of capabilities and resources, Celadon will be closer in achieving its vision in creating
the luminaries and game changers of tomorrow through modern Filipino-Chinese principles and
traditions.

Appendix B: Follow-up Actions on Mid-year Report

Recommendations
1. Ensure timely submissions of documents
needed by the LS-OSA to avoid unnecessary
demerits in your professionalism score. Refer
to the Guidelines or Student Activities as well
as the calendar released by the office every
semester.
2. Ensure that the evaluations of projects are
extensive and thorough in order to flesh out
the best practices that can be institutionalized
and transitioned to future members of the
organization.

Explore ways to innovate and revamp

projects, especially the ones that have been
there for a long time, in order to keep them
relevant, exciting, and aligned to the vision of
the organization.
3.

Status and Follow-Up Action

During the EvSem, the Executive Board
discussed the calendar of activities for the
second semester in order to ensure that they
were organized and aligned with the
organizations mission, vision, and thrust.
Weekly meetings were also held to ensure that
all LS-OSA documents would be properly
done.
Each project core team is required to have a
project presentation before the Executive
Board in order to ensure that their plans are
done well. After the implementation of the
project, post evaluations are also done so that
the positive aspects of the project can be
repeated in the following year whereas the
negative aspects can be improved on.
This second semester, Celadon has added new
features and twists to its projects like the
annual Leadership Development Program
wherein we decided to pick a venue that has
never been used before and incorporating a
new rule that everyone must get a chance to be
a leader. Basically, the group dynamics have
been tweaked in order to make sure that each
member of a team gets to become the leader in
different legs of the event.
Another project that would offer new twists
would be the Binondo Amazing Race, wherein
the team incorporated various cultural
activities and themes into the race such as
Chinese calligraphy, xio kim folding, dynasty
system of teams, etc.
This years Chinese New Year Week would be
incorporating the Chinese zodiac system. The
themes in the various booths that will be
presented to the Ateneo community will also
have a special twist with regard to how they are
related to each other. Another new thing
would also be the invitation that the team will
give to all members of the LS faculty to
participate in the gala night of the Chinese
New Year Week Celebration.

4. Maintain an open, honest, and supportive

feedback mechanism within the Executive
Board. Reiterate organization values to
everyone to ensure everyones roles are clear
and each action is performed in a purposive
manner.

This year, the Executive Boards evaluation

seminar included an open discussion of how
they thought each department could improve
in the next semester in terms of how they lead
their managers and how they execute their
projects. It also included opinions of the
various executive board members evaluation
of each other, voiced out through the
President and Executive Vice President in
individual consultations. In this manner, the
Executive Board members were reminded of
the mission and vision of the organization, and
in effect, enabled them to consolidate the
message through the projects of their
respective departments.
5. Set indicators to ensure that financial During the Evaluation Seminar, the Executive
management goals are within reach. Maintain Board discussed the budget in order to make
sound financial practices to minimize the sure that the funds will be properly allocated.
expenses of upcoming projects.
Aside from that, innovative initiatives were
done in the Corporate Relations department to
increase funding for the organization. The
different departments were also encouraged to
develop their own fundraising activities in
order to make their projects more selfsufficient.

The Marketing Game was fun =)) It was kind of embarrassing, having to judge my co-JuMPer guys, but I think
that through the activity, we got a more in-depth understanding of what the companies would feel about the people
who call for sponsorships, and gained more understanding as well on what it takes to be a good sponsor caller :)

It was good to finally know more about the different departments of Celadon, plus it made me more interested in
some projects :)

The systems talk was one of the things I joined JuMP for, so it was a good activity, and the budget bidding game
was pretty exciting, so the choice of activities was good.

The activities helped us learn how to budget our money and how to formulate strategies to save more.

The games was interestingly hard. I also liked the consultation period where we learned how things worked from a
leader of those certain events.

There's value in learning through experience, and that's why the amazing race really genuinely helped the JuMPers
learn.
