Yankee Girls Soon to Be Sporting a New Look

Later this Fall, there will be new look to the Yankee United FC: a
new set of club logos that will begin appearing on shirts, hats, scarfs,
sweatshirts and other items.
The new designs were the creation of Pam O’Brien, working with
Coaching Director Wayne Mones. O’Brien is a U-16 parent volunteer,
whose daughter is the Star’s goalkeeper. “We started out with the
objective of simply upgrading the logo” observed O’Brien, “but we
wanted to take it to the next level to position the branding of the club.”
The new shield style logo is enveloped in the club’s new catch phrase
statement: "Connecticut's Elite Premier Soccer Club for Young
Women" which both reflects Yankee’s historic role as one of the most
successful and oldest premier soccer clubs in Connecticut while also
better positioning the club for the future. Versions of the new logo can
be seen on pages 3 and 4 of this newsletter.

NORTH ANDOVER, MA - Thanks to a pair of goals
from sophomore Khara Roman (Orange, CT), the
Merrimack women's soccer Warriors (8-2-1, 5-2 NE-10)
won their third straight contest Wednesday evening,
2-1 over the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire
(3-6-3, 1-4-3 NE-10) in double overtime.
Roman scored her second goal of the season
off the head of junior Kerri Domohowski (Saugus,
MA) before scoring her third of the year in the 108th
minute of play from Jessica Peacock (Hopedale, MA)
and Jessie DeGraan (Braintree, MA) off the Warriors
tenth and final corner kick.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kiley Horne (Scituate,
MA) recorded her first win of the year in relief of
senior Brittany Gustafson (East Hampton, CT),
making three saves on the night.
Head Coach Gabe Mejail thought Southern
New Hampshire to be a worthy opponent, but was
impressed with how his team came out of the gates in fourth shutout of the season and the Gettysburg
overtime play.
"They played us tough the entire game, we
were just on fire in the second overtime," Mejail said.  Yeager (Westport, Conn./Staples), sophomore
"I don't know where we got all the energy, but our
team showed some real determination, and made it
count when we needed it most."

that has posted 15 shutouts and a 0.88 goals against
average over the last two seasons...Has five career
points on two goals and one assist...Seven of 11
shots have been on goal.
High School: Earned all-conference honors all four
years of varsity soccer at Staples High School and
was a three-time all-area pick...Served as the team
captain of both soccer and basketball teams,
earning team MVP honors twice in the
former...Was also an honorable mention all-
conference pick in basketball.  Played club soccer
for the Yankee United Heat.
Recent news coverage:
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Gettysburg and Ursinus
combined for 26 shots and 10 corner kicks, but
none of that led to any offense on Saturday as the
two sides played to a scoreless tie in a Centennial
Conference women’s soccer match. Sophomore
goalie Allie Rivera (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham
Wading River) made eight saves to lead Gettysburg,
which moved to 5-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference
play.
Ursinus (5-3-1, 2-1-1 CC) recorded all 15 of its shots
in regulation, but Rivera was up to the task and
stopped more than half of the attempts, including
six in the second half alone. She recorded her
defense, anchored in the backline by senior Bethany
Taylor (Derwood, Md./Magruder), junior Sarah
Lauren Johnson (Morristown, N.J./Morristown-
Beard), and freshman Suzy Englot (Fayetteville,
N.Y./Manlius Pebble Hill) , posted its sixth team
shutout.

U-11 Revolution
With the their inaugural season playing as a
team underway, the Revolution have a habit of
regularly exceeding the expectations of Coach
Bob Salvador: “I have been very impressed with
the commitment and motivation of this group
of these very dedicated young ladies, who all
share a common goal. I am very proud to be
their coach.”
U-12 Pride
The U12 pride are off to a 3-1 start for the
Fall season, recording victories over CFC,
Everton and Eastern FC. The team traveled to
the World Cup Tournament in Nashua NH over
the Columbus Day weekend and 2-1 in
qualifying games. They were semi-finalists for
their age bracket. Coach Matt Mones is very
pleased with his team’s progress noting “With
each game we play I can see the girls working
together better and growing confidence in
themselves and in each other. They are off to a
great start!”

for the semi-finals, scoring 6 goals and allowing
just 1. Their most recent addition, Carly Pala, a
talented keeper from Milford, has been very
strong in both tournament and league play,
anchoring the defense. This resilient group of
young ladies continue to grow as a team and to
raise the expectations they have for themselves
individually and as a team, which should give
them momentum heading into the second half
of their season.
U14 Strikers
On a beautiful Fall day this past weekend,
the Strikers traveled to Farmington to play in a
Jamboree against FSA, one of the top teams in
CT, and Granite FC, the #1 team in NH.
Playing in back to back games, Yankee lost 3-2
to FSA on a controversial PK call with 4
minutes left. After 15 minutes of rest, the
Strikers then battled Granite FC to a 0-0 draw.
The girls played well enough to win both games,
having created numerous opportunities to score.
“These girls want to work hard and show
that they can play with the best teams in the
region. They continue to improve with each
game they play.” observed Coach Jack Nogueira.
“They are fast becoming a very dangerous team.”
