Why Engineering?

Because for me it is a subject which combines the beautifully concise methods

of Mathematics with the logic of Sciences; it has and still will play the most important role in
humanities Technological advancement. To me Engineering is about solving problems, designing
processes and making products to improve the quality of life for other people; therefore, I feel the
urge to pursue higher education to have thorough understanding, especially in Software
Engineering.
From a young age I have had a keen interest in mathematics and science. I believe that you
cannot be an Engineer without being good in mathematics. In secondary school I went into
Sciences because of my love for Mathematics and I represented my school in several Mathematics
competitions. I love challenges and that lead to my joining the Further Mathematics class which
only few students ventured into.
I studied Electronic Engineering in one of the best universities in Nigeria, the University of Nigeria
and went further to study Electronics and Communications Engineering in the University of
Greenwich in the U.K because the degree course appeals to those having a flair for mathematics. I
did my student intern and a one year national service in Nigerian Breweries Plc with greater
responsibility. I worked in the ICT department, were I gathered a lot of experience in Information
and communications technology.
I won some awards while serving my nation, the state coordinator's award and recommendation for
being outstanding in Information Technology and an award of excellence from the Red Cross
Society because of my selfless and humanitarian services to mankind.
I want to do an M.Sc in Software Engineering in the U.S. because; I want to gain a software
understanding of my undergraduate and Masters qualification. I also want to learn how to design
and build software in teams, also the U.S. has a strong tradition of excellence in teaching and
Research.
Your University comes first on my list because the international reputation of the department
attracts such a variety of students and I believe it will be a stimulating environment in which to
study at M.Sc level. Your university also provides excellent working and recreation facilities for
graduate students which demonstrate your commitment to the graduate student body. Finally I hold
a masters degree from a UK institution, where I was one of the outstanding students in my taught
courses.
I have a flair for computing which is closely connected to software Engineering. I program in VB, I
recently completed an ICT course in computer maintenance and repair and I am currently
preparing for my CCNA examination. I am also running an online programme on PRINCE2 Project
management - Foundation and Practitioner. I know that I can successful complete this course
because I have a background in electronic engineering having studied it at undergraduate level
and postgraduate level and having a good understanding of the course and also because I am very
determined and hardworking.

I have demonstrated leadership qualities in every area of my life like I was the library prefect in my
secondary school, I served as the secretary general of the Red Cross Society in my community, in
our local students union in the university I was also the secretary general.
I enjoy playing taekwondo, volleyball and football and it has built me up by enhancing my selfesteem, Building my self-confidence, teaching me to show Respect for people no matter their
background and making me a good Team player.
Upon graduation, I intend to use all that I have learnt to help humanity.
If you offer me a place in your university, I will do the things I do best; which are being one of the
best graduating postgraduate students of your school and adding-value to your institution.
