Hello My name is Michael and

Its through mistakes that you actually can grow.

You have to get bad in order to get good.

Ill like to start the presentation o with this quote by graphic designer Paula Scher. Its through mistakes that you actually can grow. You have to get bad in order to get
good. And I think this quote is a great representation of the process I went through making this piece. Also the function of the piece and how It works.

So in January thinking about this project. I knew I wanted to try something new that I had never done before. like a new process exploration and working with new
materials.

Im really interested in immersive installations, projection pieces and interactive experiences in general. So I went towards this direction in my exploration. And doing
research I found a lot of pre existing companies that specialize in experiences like this.

Such as Hint studios and nonotak studios

Continuing my research I found this piece that was in the mexican museum put on by the hospital to help create awareness about human health. By displaying dierent
depictions of the body as the viewer stood infront the piece. Such as the xray, cat scan and heat scan.

I thought this was a great example of how design can play a big role in change through a simple exploration.

So doing my research I was told I needed to talk to these guys before I explore any thing. John Baker, Cyan Meeks, David Overholt and Ian Tirone. They where all big
help in helping me design my piece. They where able to present a lot of problems I would face that I did not think about before hand. Bashing a lot of my early on ideas.

So for my project I had a idea of trapping a person in a interactive electronic device conceptually. And doing research I found this great series of photos by photographer
Antoinne Geiger titled Sur-fake. And the point of these images was to show how consumed society is with their self and technology. Which is exactly what I had in mind
for my project but turning that idea into a projection installation. I thought this series was successful in striking and captivating the viewer. Also the concept of the piece
comes across with out explanation immediately upon viewing. Which is something I wanted to embody in my project.

The

Processor
Experience

So I created the processor experience a projection piece that combines touch and reflection.

Goal
So the goal of this project was to create an installation that could be mocked up
to best display. A moderate critique of present day culture behavior.Through the
illusion of the viewer entering a digital device and they are viewing them selves
from inside the device. Creating a digital mirror the piece gives the viewer a
chance to escape through interaction.

Theme:
Reflection
Human vs. Technology
Keywords:
Natural, Welcoming, Playful, Dreamy,
Confusion but interesting, Enticing.

Hopefully bringing a conscience realization of how immersed we are in the digital era.

This illusion is hopefully achieved through a digital electronic aesthetic of the viewer once they stand infront the piece. and when they touch the screen a clearer image of
their self will appear.

So as far as the context and where the installation would rest. my first idea was a geo dome that I would construct inside Irving. But talking to John he quickly bash that
idea. bringing up a big issue which was space and how much space this would need. So I had some other Ideas of stretching a cloth between the courtyard of design
and animation. That would still have this immersive eect.

So doing more refinement and thinking I landed on a personal rectangle that viewers can interact with on a personal level. As if they would their own device. The size of
the installation also reference a screen in shape.

further along in development next was building and constructing. With the knowledge I gained from the instructors. The frame needed to be something that was strong
and durable to hold the material that was being stretched to it. And the contact of the viewer touching the piece. And for the fabric it needed to be a 4 way stretch light
proof fabric. For the frame I used metal and spandex fabric for the screen. Working with metal I was challenged again by using a new building technique and working with
a material I had never worked with before.

Welding

So this was a process in itself learning how to use a welding torch without going blind.

Then turning that into a finish piece.

Overall this was a really fun process and I really enjoyed it.

The

Processor
Experience

I was pleased with how this came out. Although I still ran into issues I was pleased with the outcome. The processor experience.

Question?
How can a projection installation, displaying a
digital reflection of the viewer, help them
realize how consumed they are by technology?

So the question I was faced with was How can a projection installation, displaying a digital reflection of the viewer, help them realize how consumed they are by
