PRE-READING

1. Teacher asks pupils abut the salted


fish.

CLASSROOM TALK
T: Good morning, class. How are you
today?I hope you are feeling fine.
T: Ok class, may I have your attention
please?I have here a mystery box with
me. I want you to guess what is the
item is in the box.
T:The clue for this mystery box is?
- It is a type food. It tastes salty.
(* Teacher awarded students who can
come out with the correct answer.)
T: Class, who likes to eat salted fish.
Anyone know how to make salted fish?

WHILE-READING

2.Teacher shows a video.


(Making Salted Fish).
3.Teacher puts up some words on the
board.
Example: salted fish, preserved,
refrigerators, freezers, caught, cut, clean,
sprinkle, arrange, dry, first, next and
lastly.
4.Teacher conducts word drill and
discuss with the pupils the meaning of
the words.

T: Lets watch a video on the process of


making salted fish.
T: Class, I have put up some words on the
board. Lets go through it one by one.

1. Teacher gives the steps on making


salted fish and ask them to read.

T : After watching the video, now Im giving


you a passage on the process in making
salted fish.
T : I give you three minutes to read it
through.

2. Teacher reads the passage while the


pupils point to the words that teacher is
reading.
3. Pupils read the text in groups.

4. Teacher and pupils discuss about the


content of the passage.

5. Teacher asks them to underline the


words that teacher had introduced in the
pre-reading stage.
Example : salted fish, preserved,
refrigerators, freezers, caught, cut, clean,
sprinkle, arrange, dry, first, next and
finally.
6. Teacher explains and demonstrate
how to make a story map.

T: Lets repeat these words after me.

T : Now, Im going to read to you this


passage. While Im reading, I need you to
point your fingers to the words in the text.
T :Now, its your turn.
(Boys and girls group take turns.)
(Teacher correct pupils pronouciation
mistakes)
T: Good! Lets us now discuss what is the
passage is all about. Lets go through it
paragraph by paragraph.
i)Now, how did the fisherman preserve the
fish?
ii)What is the first step in making salted
fish?
iii) What is next step in making salted fish?
iv) What is the last step in making salted
fish.
T: Ok,after reading the passage for a few
time, im sure you all already understand
the content of it.
T: Do you still remember the words I put on
the board just now? I want you to look up
those words from the passage.
T: Lets check your answer together.
T: Anyone here know what pictures are
these?
T: This is a story map (Time line). We can
use a time line(pictures) to represent
events from the reading text.

7. Teacher asks pupils to sit in group to


do their story map.

T: Well in groups of 4, I wants you to create


your own time line based on the passage
you had read just now.
T: Divide yourself in group of 4 members
and take these materials for your time line.
T: Ill give you 10 minutes to complete this
activity.Once you had finish you can put up
your work on the wall.

8. Teacher asks pupils to draw their own


story map based on the passage.

T: Any questions? If you dont have any


problems you may start your work now.

9. Teacher distributes the worksheets and T : Ok class, we move on to another


explained to the pupils about the activity. activity. Are you ready ?So, listen to me
very carefully.Lets look at the worksheet
together.
T : Ok, what you have to do is, read the
sentence stripes. Then, cut the sentence
stripes and arrange them into the right
sequence.

1. Teacher asks pupils to answer the


comprehension questions based on the
text.
- Who made salted fish in the old days?
- Why did they make salted fish?
- How many steps are needed to make
the salted fish ?

T: Well done with all the creative work for


your story map.
T: Now lets move on to the next activity.I
want all of you to answer the questions
correctly based on the activity that we had
done today.

2. Teacher discuss the answer with


pupils.

T : Ok class, lets discuss the answer. Ill


call your name randomly and tell the class
your answer correctly.

1. Teacher drill the vocabularies again.


Example :salted fish, preserved,
refrigerators, freezers, caught, cut, clean,
sprinkle, arrange, dry, first, next and
lastly.

T : Ok, well done all. Now, lets read and


spell the words again.

2. Teacher shows picture on how making


the salted fish and pupils read the steps
again.

T : Ok, class, before we end the lesson,


letss recall the steps on how to make the
salted fish. Ill show you the picture and you
tell the steps in correct sequences.
T : Excellent class! See you all again
tomorrow.
