5 DESCRIPTION OF MODES
5-1. Mixed 1-Sided Document Size Detection (Normal-Speed) Mode
When in this mode, the AF-3 detects the size of the document each time a
Document Feed Tray, the copier feeds the copy paper of a size selected
according to the document size detected and the copying mode set on the
copier control panel.
5-2. Fixed 1-Sided Document Size Detection (High-Speed) Mode
When in this mode, the AF-3 detects the size of the first document only.
The copier selects the copy paper size corresponding to this document size
and uses copy paper of this size only. This provides for faster paper feed
on the part of the copier.
Note: If a set of documents of mixed sizes are loaded in this mode, image
problems including lost image could result.
5-3. Lightweight Original Mode (Metric Area)
This mode is intended for users who use lightweight originals. When in this
mode, the Original Width Scale is operated and controlled differently, and a
different document transport method is employed to protect the originals
from damage.
Note: In this mode, the document stops at a point 3 mm before the normal
stop position, which could cause the problem of lost image along the
leading edge depending on the original.
In the inch areas, the original is stopped at a point 01 mm from the
end face of the Original Glass whether the AF-3 is in the normal or
Lightweight Original Mode.

Driven by the MOT, Timing Belt B1 turns Pulley P1 clockwise.
Since Transport Drive Clutch CLU is disengaged and Gear G4 is idling, the
Transport Belt remains stationary.
The Pulley Gear PG2 turns Gear G1 counterclockwise.
The one-way bearing in the
Document Take-Up Roller is

<Control of Speed>
The speed of MOT is monitored by the pulse sensor CLK SNS which
counts the pulses from the pulse disc mounted on the output shaft of the
motor.
The sensor outpout signal is fed to pin 73 of IC4 which increases or
decreases the width of pulse output to pin 47.
As the width of pulse at pin 47 increases, the motor decreases in speed;
as the pulse width decreases, the motor increases in speed.

9 MISCELLANEOUS
9-1. Document Size Detection
The document size is detected by a combination of Width Detection and
Length Detection.
* Width Detection
The Size Sensor SIZE SNS detects the width of the document.
The SIZE SNS is located at a point approx. 265 mm from the Rear
is 265 mm or more.
* Length Detection
A pulse disc attached to the output shaft of MOT is detected by Pulse
output by CLK SNS from the time the motor starts to the time when the
Registration Sensor detects the trailing edge of the document.
The actual length is determined by subtracting a correction value A from
the pulse count B.

DISASSEMBLY,
REASSEMBLY AND
ADJUSTMENT
Precautions for Disassembly, Reassembly, and Adjustment
1. Before disassembling the AF-3, make sure that no power is being supplied
from the copier.
2. While power is being supplied to the AF-3, do not connect or disconnect print
jacks and connectors.
3. If the AF-3 is running with its covers removed, use care not to allow your
clothing to be caught in moving parts such as the timing belt.
4. Make it a rule not to operate the AF-3 with a component removed.
5. A toothed washer is used with the screw that secures the ground wire to
ensure positive conduction. Use the washer at reassembly.
6. To reassemble the AF-3, reverse the order of disassembly unless otherwise
specified.
7. Do not loosen or remove the screw locked with red paint.
Purpose of Red Paint
The red lock paint shows that the part secured with the screw must be
adjusted and assembled at the factory only and cannot be included in field
service items.
8. When working on the AF-3 or storing it for a long period, place it on a flat
surface to keep the cover flat.

TROUBLESHOOTING
General Precautions
1. When servicing the AF-3 with its covers removed, use utmost care to prevent
your hands, clothing, and tools from being caught in revolving parts.
2. Before attempting to replace parts and unplugging connectors, make sure that
no power is being supplied from the copier.
3. When creating a closed circuit and measuring a voltage across connector pins
specified in the text, be sure to use the green wire (GND).
4. Keep all disassembled parts in good order and keep tools under control so that
none will be lost or damaged.
Reading the Troubleshooting Charts
1. If a component on a PWB or any other functional unit including a motor is
defective, the text only instructs you to replace the whole PWB or functional
unit and does not give troubleshooting procedure applicable within the
defective unit.
2. All troubleshooting procedures contained herein assume that there are no
breaks in the harnesses and all connectors are plugged into the right positions.
1 MISFEED/MALFUNCTION DETECTION
When a document misfeed or malfunction condition is detected while the AF-3 is operating, the
possible cause is indicated by blinking LEDs on PWB-A.
