5 DESCRIPTION OF MODES
5-1. Mixed 1-Sided Document Size Detection (Normal-Speed) Mode
When in this mode, the AF-3 detects the size of the document each time a

document is taken up and fed in.

This means that, even if documents of different sizes are placed on the

Document Feed Tray, the copier feeds the copy paper of a size selected
according to the document size detected and the copying mode set on the
copier control panel.
5-2. Fixed 1-Sided Document Size Detection (High-Speed) Mode
When in this mode, the AF-3 detects the size of the first document only.

The copier selects the copy paper size corresponding to this document size
and uses copy paper of this size only. This provides for faster paper feed
on the part of the copier.
Note: If a set of documents of mixed sizes are loaded in this mode, image
problems including lost image could result.
5-3. Lightweight Original Mode (Metric Area)
This mode is intended for users who use lightweight originals. When in this

mode, the Original Width Scale is operated and controlled differently, and a
different document transport method is employed to protect the originals
from damage.
Note: In this mode, the document stops at a point 3 mm before the normal
stop position, which could cause the problem of lost image along the
leading edge depending on the original.
In the inch areas, the original is stopped at a point 01 mm from the
end face of the Original Glass whether the AF-3 is in the normal or
Lightweight Original Mode.

8 CONTROL OF MAIN MOTOR MOT

<Control of Direction and Stop>
IC4 controls the Main Motor MOT. The signal from pins 12 and 13 of IC4

determines the direction of motor rotation: reverse (during document

feeding); forward (during document transporting or ejecting). When both
signals are High, the motor stops.

Stop

<Control of Speed>
The speed of MOT is monitored by the pulse sensor CLK SNS which

counts the pulses from the pulse disc mounted on the output shaft of the
motor.
The sensor outpout signal is fed to pin 73 of IC4 which increases or
decreases the width of pulse output to pin 47.
As the width of pulse at pin 47 increases, the motor decreases in speed;
as the pulse width decreases, the motor increases in speed.

9 MISCELLANEOUS
9-1. Document Size Detection
The document size is detected by a combination of Width Detection and
Length Detection.
* Width Detection
The Size Sensor SIZE SNS detects the width of the document.
The SIZE SNS is located at a point approx. 265 mm from the Rear

Document Guide Plate.

An On signal from the SIZE SNS indicates that the width of the document

is 265 mm or more.
* Length Detection
A pulse disc attached to the output shaft of MOT is detected by Pulse

Sensor CLK SNS.

The length of the document is detected by counting the number of pulses

output by CLK SNS from the time the motor starts to the time when the
Registration Sensor detects the trailing edge of the document.
The actual length is determined by subtracting a correction value A from
the pulse count B.

9-2. AF-3 Raised/Lowered Position Detecting Mechanism

The AF-3 raised/lowered position detecting mechanism employs a magnet

that is installed on the AF-3.

The magnet actuates a reed switch when the AF-3 is lowered; and

deactuates the reed switch when the AF-3 is raised.

If a document is placed on the Document Feed Tray while the reed switch

remains deactuated, the Closure Failure Indicator on the copier control

panel lights up and the copier inhibits the initiation of a new copy cycle.
Raising and lowering the AF-3 serves to reset a misfeed condtion and
allows for selecting a Test Mode operation.

Magnet

9-3. Document Exit Tray Raised/Lowered Position Detecting Mechanism

The Document Exit Tray can be swung up to allow documents of a large

size (A3 or B4) to be loaded on the Document Feed Tray.

The magnet fitted on the Document Exit Tray actuates and deactuates the

Exit Tray Switch to let the copier know whether the Document Exit Tray is
in the raised or lowered position.
If the Document Exit Tray is not in the lowered position after documents
have been loaded, the Closure Failure Indicator on the copier control
panel lights up and the copier inhibits the initiation of a new copy cycle.
