that have been approved by the IEEE-SA
Standards Board in December 2000.
To view actions on standards and projects sponsored by other societies, visit
the Web site, http://standards.ieee.
org/sa-mem/bdapp.html. A more detailed account of the recommendations
from the IEEE-SA Standards Board New
Standards Committee (NesCom) and Review Committee (RevCom) has been
posted to the Web site and you may
check these URLs respectively,

board/rev/index.html.

If you are interested in joining the

working group of a particular project,
please inform the technical contact of
that project. For contact information,
please view the IEEE SA Web site at
http://standards.ieee.org/db/status/ and
enter the PAR number, "555" for instance, or enter a key word such as
"metadata." If you would like to know
the balloting status of any of the projects,
please view http://standards.ieee.org/db/

2001 International Electric Machines and Drives Conference

Turbogenerator Track
The 2001 International Electric Machines and Drives Conference (IEMDC
2001) will be held 17-20 June 2001 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The IEMDC
2001 program is available on the Web, http://power.mit.edu:80/1EMIDC. As part
of the program, the conference organizing committee will run a technical track
related to large turbogenerators. This track will be of interest to engineers in the
power generation industry whose work involves large turbogenerators.
The track consists of a series of invited papers and discussions presented by
industry experts from the major OEMs, generation companies, and independent
consultants. The focus of the program is on the specification of turbogenerators.
The impact of specification requirements on the design of large turbogenerators
will be discussed. Experts will discuss key aspects of specifications for such machines, and some real life case studies will be presented. While the main emphasis will be on new equipment, there will be discussion of rewinds and upgrades
of existing equipment. Ample opportunity to question the presenters and to discuss the topics and exchange experiences has been scheduled, and there will be
plenty of time for one-on-one discussion. A feature of the track will be a panel
discussion of the relative merits of air-cooled and hydrogen-cooled generators.
This is a unique opportunity to gather information and experience from the top
experts in the industry, which can be taken and immediately used to improve the
documents used to specify purchase or refurbishment of these machines. Manufacturing companies represented by the speakers include Alstom, General Electric, Siemens, NEC, and AGT. Generating companies represented include
Southern Company, PG&E Generation, AEP, and Ontario Power Generation. A
number of top independent consultants will also be present, as well as a representative of the underwriting industry.
The turbogenerator track is organized by Brian Gott, +1 518 385 0470, e-mail

brian.gott@ps.ge.com.
