raveling Energy Exploration Stations (similar to discovery boxes) are available for teachers to
check out and use in their classrooms for FREE! We will ship the box to you at no cost. You can
use it in your classroom for several weeks and then we will arrange for it to be picked up at no cost.
Most of the materials you need for these activities are included in the box. You supply basics like
water and scissors, and of course wind. All the activities included in the Renewable Energy Traveling
Energy Exploration Station have background information and discussion questions to aid you and your
class.
Renewable sources of energy are an important topic in the science curriculum. This station can enhance
your plans for teaching solar power, wind power, hydropower, geothermal power, and biomass.

This station includes:

O A Resource Outlet containing an educator’s
guide, posters, videos and several books for all
reading levels. O Gas From Garbage- Students will investigate the
O Testing a Wind Turbine- Students will build and
test a windmill.
O Build a Dam- Students simulate building a dam
on a river system to see that changes may take
place.
O You are my Sunshine – Students make solar
masks to aid learning parts of the sun.
O Make a Geyser- Students create a geyser and
investigate harnessing the power given off by this
energy source.
O Make Your Own Wind Meter- Students will build
a gauge to determine wind speed.
O Blast Off- Students will use air power to turn a
balloon into a rocket.
O What color absorbs the sun’s heat the best?-
Students observe an ice cube on different colors
of paper to see if color has an affect on melting
rate of the ice cube.
O Make a Solar Water Heater- Students heat up
water by building a solar cooker.

or False- are bulletin board activities for students
to gain knowledge about the uses of solar and
wind power.
TEKS: All these activities strive to use scientific
inquiry, teach students field and classroom
investigative skills and foster critical thinking
skills. Each activity strives to include Science
TEKS 1-4 to some degree.
