BEVERAGE OUTPUT
The table above shows the gathered percent sugar and serving size, and
the computed gram sugar per serving size, calories per serving size and rice
equivalence of sample beverages.
In the Percent Sugar field, Gatas ng Kalabaw has the highest amount,
followed by Dutchmill Yogurt Drink, Red Bull, Zest-o Choc-o and Cobra. It seems
that milk, chocolate drinks and energy drinks contain high amount of sugar. On
the other hand, Coke Light and Coke Zero have the lowest amount of sugar with
0%, followed by San Mig Light, San Mig Pale Pilsen and San Mig Lemon Beer.
Unusual as it may seem but unhealthy drinks such as softdrinks and beers
have low amount of sugar.
In the Gram Sugar per Serving Size, Calories per Serving Size and Rice
Equivalence fields, Gatas ng Kalabaw also has the highest amount in all three
fields, followed by Cobra, Monster Energy, Kopiko 78 oC and Moo. On the other
hand, Coke Light and Coke Zero also have the lowest amount in all three fields,
followed by San Mig Light, San Mig Pale Pilsen and Chuckie. Examining the
results shows that milk, chocolate drinks (except Chuckie) and energy drinks
have generally high amount of sugar per serving size, calories per serving size
and rice equivalence, while some softdrinks (except Coke Regular) and beers
have low amount of the said values. It is surprising to know that 1 serving of
Gatas ng Kalabaw is almost equivalent to 2 cups of rice, each serving of Cobra
and Monster Energy is almost equivalent to 1 cup of rice, Moo has almost twice
the amount of sugar as Chuckie, and both Coke Light and Coke Zero have no
calories at all.
This activity may affect my food/beverage choices in some way since I
never drink most of the sample beverages such as the energy drinks and I
seldom drink milk and softdrinks; I only drink some chocolate drinks such as
Chuckie, beers such as San Mig Light, and juices such as Orange. I am glad to
know that the beverages which I drink have generally low amount of sugar and
calories, and the beverages which I never/seldom drink have generally high
amount of sugar and calories (except Coke Light and Coke Zero). It is safe to say
that I am drinking healthy beverages in terms of amount of sugar and calories.
Through this activity, my food/beverage choices will practically remain the same,
but I can consider drinking more Purefresh Milk and Soyfresh Milk since milk is
needed in our bodies and these drinks only have low to average amount of sugar
and calories. While Coke Light and Coke Zero have no amount of sugar and
calories at all, I will still not drink them because they are basically softdrinks and
Ive been keeping myself to drink such for some time now. This activity will help
me consider trying some drinks which I seldom drink. Moreover, it will serve as a
basis as I inform my family and friends about the amount of sugar and calories of
the beverages that they usually drink.
