Ayurveda being a life science gives significant importance to Garbhini


(Pregnant lady ), as she is considered as Dhatri The life giver, she is given
utmost importance in her Garbhini avastha (Gestational period ) for better
health of mother and also the baby.

Prenatal
lady

care

of

pregnant

Prenatal period is the period between the 24th/26th week of gestational age
until birth.
Ayurveda mainly gives a set of Dos and Dont in this period that has to be
followed by the anticipating mother for her better health and also for the
childs health.
Dos :- 1. Nityam prahashta- To always be in a happy mood
2. Suchi, Alankrita _ Hygiene and Personal care
3. Shuklavasana To wear white clothes
4. Shani Mangala Devataa-brahmana-guru para
To engage herself in Peace, worshipping God, brahmana and
Preceptors.
Donts :- 1. To avoid All the provoking factors like Anger, Sorrow, lust,
Greed..
2. Not to Physically get tiered.
3. To avoid all the bad scenes and stories that may disturb mental
equilibrium.
Acharya Sushrutha has given Specific monthly Regimens that a pregnant
lady must follow to attain a healthy child. i.e,
First, Second and Third

Perinatal care of the pregnant

During the time of Delivery, the lady must be assured and made strong
mentally with comforting words and hymns of vedic literature.

Postnatal care of the pregnant


lady
Post-partum state of the pregnant lady is termed as Sutika, which
extends upto 1.5 months or till the appearance of menstrual flow.
Acharyas like Charaka, sushrutha and kashyapa have elaborately explained
the regimens a sutika has to follow in her sutika kala for better health.
Acharya charaka has given the following regimen for a sutika :
~ When a sutika feels hunger she should take Panchakola Churna along
with ghee or animal fat according to her Saatmya and Agnibala
~ After taking this her abdomen should be given Abhyanga and wrapped
properly with a clean cloth
~ After proper digestion of ghee or animal fat she should be given with

Pippalyadi siddha snigdha yavagu


= This regimen should be followed for 5 or 7 days
= She should use Hot water regularly for Drinking, Bathimg and other needs
= She should be given all nourishing diets
