or How to Focuswhen You Do Not Want Your Subiect in the Center of the Photo
Normally,in order for your subjectto be in

The CanonAuto FocusingSystemworks by

measuringthe infrared light rays reflected
from the subject. lt focusesmost subjects
very sharply. There are a couple of types of
subjectswhich are not so well-suitedto autofocusing. They include:
1. Glossy subjects(exterior of a car, glass,
water).
2. Subjectswhich have little or no reflect an c e ( b l a c k h a ir , f i re , f ir e w o rks ,bl acko u t c u rta i n s) .

For thesetypes of subjects,it is bestto prefocus. Follow the steps for prefocusing,
but, in step 2, composethe picture so that a
substitute subject, which is at the same
distance as your main subiect, covers the
autofocusspot.
Another time prefocusingis useful is when
your subject is too smallto cover the auto'
focus spot. Prefocuson a largersubstitute
subject.
