Sutjeska Hidroelectric Power Plant (S-3) Annex 7. Production Calculations.

Annex 7. Production Calculations

1. Methodology Used
The calculation for obtainable production was carried out simulating, during a
period of years, the functioning of the plant, with flow numbers. For this, a
calculation sheet was created, in which the daily production is obtained from
these daily average flows, considering in each case the available net head in
function of the diverse head loss.
The series of flows is determined in the corresponding hydrology annex.
The calculations carried out are the following:
For each available flow in the flow station (column Q river previously specified
day, month and year of the measurement) an equivalent flow to that of the
studied basin (column Q intake). For this, the relative coefficients of the basins
and the reductions, in this case, are available in the hydrology annex (Basin
cells).
Given the flows circulating in the area of the intake, it does not take the
ecological, biological or reserve flows (flow cells), which will not be taken in any
case. The resulting flows (column Q river-ec) is compared with the design flow
(flow cells), equaling it to all that are superior (column Q captured). Afterwards,
the data obtained will be compared with the minimum turbinable flow (flow
cells), which depends on the number of groups and the type of turbines,
equaling to zero all of those flows below the minimum turbined (Q turbined).
Once the turbined flow is obtained, the determination of the net head takes
place, for this the head loss for Colebrook for each flow in function to the
geometric conditions of the pipe are calculated. The possibility of the existence
of two section tubes with distinct physical characteristics was foreseen. The
data related to each is found in the cells Head loss, where the interior diameter
of the conduction is described, and the length, the number of joints, the
absolute roughness and the viscosity of the water. With this data the head loss
for each flow and each tube can be calculated (column losses section 1 and
losses section 2), later summing the data to obtain the total loss (column total
loss). The calculations are carried out in the auxiliary sheets, applying iterative
systems necessary for the resolution of the implicit equation by Colebrook.
Finally for each flow its corresponding net head is obtained, subtracting the
gross available useful head (cells Plant Characteristics), for each of the
calculated losses (column net head).

Subsequently the Developer power is calculated (power column) in the

conditions of the calculated flow and head, using the expression:
P 9.81QH n

Where Q is the turbined flow, Hn is the net available head and is the global
efficiency of the group plus transformation (cells plant characteristics).
The daily production is obtained (column daily production) by multiplying the
instantaneous power by the 24 h in a day. The global accumulated production of
the entire period of the calculation is obtained by the accumulated sum of all the
daily production data (column accumulated production).
In the cells production and annual production, the values for the total production
of the studied period are shown, along with the average annual production and
annual production for each of the studied years.
