OUR EARTH, OUR CARE

Earth is the only planet where life exists and it is our

responsibility to protect our planet from pollution. We are
gifted because, our planet has got a life sustaining
atmosphere. But the case is somewhat different for planets
like Neptune, mars, etc. They do not have an atmosphere or
their atmosphere is filled with poisonous gases, so life is not
sustainable in those.
It is not finished by just saying that, our earths atmosphere/
environment is beautiful or life sustaining. The beauty of our
environment exists only when it is well maintained. And this
is the major crisis that human beings are facing today. How to
keep our environment clean.that is the question. If anything
as bad happened to the environment, it is definitely because of
us. Every natural process that affects our environment are
reversible, but the environmental impacts due to human
activity are not completely reversible.
Our mother earth has a precious gift that, it can purify its own
environment from all kind of pollutants. All these purification
requires a great amount of time. It has been found by
scientific studies that, it took four hundred years for a plastic
bottle to degrade. So it is our responsibility that to keep our
planet unpolluted. Day by day different kind of wastes are
being dumped in to the environment. Which includes solid
wastes, gaseous wastes, radiation wastes, liquid wastes, etc.

and due to these irresponsible acts of humans, right now we

are facing disasters.
Our protective layer of ozone has got holes in it, amount of o2
is decreasing and amount of co2 is increasing, raining acid,
plants are facing nutrient deficiency, respiratory diseases,
increasing surface temperature (in 2015 due to heat waves
2248 peoples are dead yet in India), increasing sea level,
droughts, floods, etc. all these things are happened and
happening due to pollution. So if anyone can anything good it
will be us, humans. We can change things to normal. Thats
why god created us with a special brain than other living
beings. Many movements are being reporting around the
world against the pollution. Industries are working by creating
lesser pollution. They have incorporated many things at the
design stage itself to reduce pollution. Good effluent treatment
plants are signs of a less polluting industry. In this way we can
reduce atmospheric pollution to an extent. Another important
source of atmospheric pollution is due to vehicle exhausts.
The pollution created by vehicles depends upon the quality of
the fuel used in it. The better is the fuel, the lesser is the
pollution. High quality fuels are being mandated in many
Indian cities. The quality of the fuel is determined according
to the sulfur content in it. The fuel being mandated is known
as Euro IV fuel. The refineries are producing Euro V fuels
with an aim to reduce pollution. Mainly the sulfur present in
the industrial and vehicle exhaust are causing acid rains and
all, so the usage of good quality fuels reduce such kind of
environmental impacts.
Building a new world by destructing natural habitat is not
good. Such kind of development are not sustainable. So what

we require is a sustainable development. Development of

human era and environmental protection has to go parallel.
Otherwise nature will show its after effects, it could be
devastating. Our planet is not only for us, it is also for the
coming generations. We are only some visitors of our time.
We do not have the authority to deplete any of the natural
resources. But our action is in a way that we are using it
maximum and not allowing it to grow. Cutting trees and
building concrete forests has its negative effects on the
environment. Landslides, soil erosion, season violated rains,
heat waves are some examples.
Earth is mine so as yours. Single initiative acts may do not
have an effect on the atmosphere. But if all of us are stand
united, we can make vast changes and we can create green
and healthy environment. Sun is the power source of
everything, so we can also have that energy. Solar energy,
wind energy, wave energy, etc. are sustainable energy sources,
and they produce zero pollution. The Kochi Refinery has a 10
MW solar power generation system, the Cochin International
Airport (CIAL) is setting up a 15 MW solar power generation
field, we have several big energy producing wind farms across
our country and in the world, humans are succeeded in
creating power from waves of the ocean. All these are
examples of sustainable power generation. These methods are
eco-friendly that, they do not pollute the environment. There
is no invention other than glass to replace plastic products. So
in this case, what we can do is recycling of the plastic and
glass wastes. Usage of plastics for road construction is best
alternative use of the plastics.

Different nations are conducting space missions to find out

any evidence of life or any good place like earth. But nothing
has been found yet. I believe that there will be no such place
where life exists, other than earth. God must be thinking that,
if there a life existing place on the reach of humans, they will
leave earth and start living in that planet. Then after depleting
completely, they will go to another planet. This could not be
done. Humans also have to learn to protect his home.
Humans are becoming aware of that. According to United
Nations Environment Programme, to increase awareness
about protecting earth and its environment, each year, 5 June
is celebrated as world environment day. This years theme is
7 billion dreams. One planet. Consume with care. Which
means that the natural resources depleting fast and it is much
irreversible. Considering our current production and
consumption rates, our resources will deplete quick. So we
have to consume the resources with care to ensure a healthy
future. So just like last years theme, lets raise our voice not
the sea level. It is our earth, and it is our care.
