TI see Greg or Ginger very seldom, most recently as the Court best recails at a lunch at a restaurant in Burbank in or about 2009, a year during which I sat in the Burbank Branch Court. Greg's and Ginger's son, Eric, and his then girlfriend and later to be wife, Audrey, joined us for lunch. Eric is a paramedic employed by UCLA who aspires to be a Physician's Assistant. In addition to the lunch in Burbank, Greg called me from his home in England sometime in 2014 (as I recall) to exchange updates on the condition of his ill mother who at or about that _time had been placed in a nursing home. My family - - while based in London for about five months August - December 1993 - - visited Greg's family for an afternoon and evening at Scientology's East Grinstead, England facility, where we had lunch at the dining hall there and later dinner at a Chinese restaurant in East Grinstead. I recall meeting Hans Smith, Greg's and Ginger‘s other son, for the first time during that visit to East Grinstead, when he as a young teenager accompanied us to the dining hall for lunch. Some of my family members and some of Greg's family members attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Greg's parents in or about 2000. Our family has exchanged holiday cards with Greg's family during many of these years. while there have probably been a few other occasions during our adult lives at which time Greg and I have crossed paths, I cannot remember any such occasions right now. I do not recall meeting Eric Smith when he was growing up. I met Bric, as I recall, in about 2009, at or about which time I believe he began employment at UCLA's hospital as a paramedic, while continuing his education. During the next few years, we had lunch together several times in Glendale where I then sat, and he came to my family's home in the San Fernando Valley for dinner on one or two occasions. His now wife, Audrey, and her daughter, then about 6 years old, joined us for some of the lunches. I yecall no’ discussions about Scientology. ‘The family relationships here did not impact the Court's determination of defendants’ summary judgment /adjudication motion. I can be fair and impartial in this matter. I have not come across the names of any of these family members in the motion for summary judgment /adjudication papers, which comprise eight court volumes of this twenty-five volume court file, although perhaps I have overlooked something, or perhaps there is something pertinent about which I have not had an opportunity to be aware. I did not believe that these disclosures were required. However, following the conclusion of the April 27, 2016 hearing on defendants’ summary judgment /adjudication motion, the fixst substantive hearing in this matter over which I presided following two short scheduling conferences, in anticipation of the upcoming June 3, 2016 Status/Trial Setting Conference, and upon further reflection, these disclosures are being made in the interest of caution and to be sure that all relevant but not now apparent or known facts can be addressed. This is a case that was filed in 2009 and is now in its eighth year. The case has been before this Court (Judge Doyle) not yet three months at this time, and no trial date has been set. Thus, there is ample time to proceed with this matter to trial or resolution otherwise, within the time frame for trial that was previously very briefly discussed between and among the Court and counsel at the April 27, 2016 hearing on defendants’ dispositive motion, a proposed trial date during the period March-May 2017.
