On Mission for The Church Alive!

Saint Paul reminds us that there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different
workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone (1 Corinthians: 5-6). In On Mission for The Church Alive! each of us priest, religious and lay has our own distinct role, our own
distinct vocation. On Mission for The Church Alive! will succeed if we are open to the prompting
of the Holy Spirit to apply our gifts in service to the Church. What gifts can you bring right now to
your parish?

Reflections
By Deacon Al
Todays Feast, The Most Holy Trinity may be confusing or unclear to
some. How can there be three Gods or
individuals in one? Last year when the
bishop was here, he asked the confirmation class:
How many Gods do we worship and was surprised
to hear one of the candidates answer Three
Being the man he is, the bishop kindly talked the
young woman through his question as he knew her
nerves had gotten the best of her and helped her to see
it is not three different Gods we worship, but a Triune God who is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
The best explanation Id ever gotten of the Trinity was
back in the seminary when our instructor explained,
the Trinity always was, God has always been. God the
Father, Son, and Spirit, with the Son being a part of
the Father and the Spirit the result of such a strong
love or bond between the Father and Son that the Spirit itself is a creation of that Love Kind of mind
blowing if you really sit down and think about it, or is
it?
Think about us as individuals for example. A young
man and woman meet and fall in love or, a young man
or woman feels the call from God in their heart to Holy Orders or the life of a religious. The love of the
young couple may result in those two individuals marrying and becoming one. Or the call to a vocation results in the person uniting their body and soul to God
as His earthly servant. Through that oneness of love a
new creation or life is brought forth, kind of like the
Trinity!
For a while, I was often telling people we always pray
to God the Father or Jesus his Son but when is the last
time we prayed saying: Holy Spirit help me in my
prayer for... Kind of like we were leaving that part of
the Trinity out. But then I realized as Catholics, this is
how we begin our prayers In the Name of the Father,
Son, and Holy Spirit, calling on the Trinity to begin
our talks with God.
One important fact though that Id really like to drive
home this weekend is that we know God is God. He is
the greatest, most forgiving, loving example of Mercy
that we will ever experience in our lives. We know this
by the way he gave his only son Jesus for us. What
we must never forget is the other part of that love
when he sent His spirit to dwell among us and to live
within us making us temples of the Holy Spirit. This
my friends must be a constant reminder of the way we
live our lives as God truly dwells within us and we
must never displease him by our actions.
