CIRCULAR 3

4 May 2016
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s)
Please take note of the following important information and arrangements.
TEST TIME TABLE CHANGE
Please take note that the cycle tests, scheduled on the term two test time table for 9 May
2016, will be written on the 10th of May.
JUNE EXAM
The June exams start on Monday, 30 May 2016 for the grade 10-12 learners. The learners
are not allowed block time before the exams and will thus be expected to attend school up to
and including Friday, 27 May 2016. The grade 8 and 9 learners on the other hand, must
attend school from 8:00-13:00 up to the 3rd of June as their examination only starts on the
8th of June. No absenteeism will be tolerated.
During the last week (at the latest) before the commencement of exams, subject teachers
will notify their classes what work is to be studied for their respective exam papers.
The exam timetable is attached to this circular. Kindly study the timetable and take careful
note of the date, subject, time/session and venue (classroom) of your childs respective
exam papers. Note too that it is extremely important that learners report to their specific
exam venues 20 minutes before the commencement of the session. Extra time will NOT
be granted to learners who arrive late for an exam session.
A learner who is absent for an exam session must submit a valid medical certificate via the
receptionist to the Deputy Principal. Failure to do so will result in a zero mark (0) for that
particular exam paper. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) are cordially informed that it is mandatory to
notify the Deputy Principal of your childs absence in the morning before the start of the
exam session. Absence during exams (with or without a medical certificate) unfortunately
prevents a learner from qualifying for the Top 10 academic list.
Kindly note that cell phones are not allowed in exam venues, and staff members do not take
responsibility for the storage or loss of cell phones.
EXAMINATION CONCESSIONS
If you have already applied for a concession for your child to write in a separate room or to
have a reader, you have to make an appointment for the training of the invigilator/reader.
Please phone the receptionist before 20 May to make the necessary arrangements. You are
reminded that the reader/invigilator must be arranged by yourself and at your own cost.

SETH VISIT TO GATEWAY TO SPACE EXHIBITION IN SANDTON

The grade 8 and 9 SETH learners will be visiting the Gateway to Space exhibition on 2 June.
All costs will be covered by the SETH Academy. A separate letter with more information will
be send to the parents of these learners in due course.
SETH OPEN DAY
The North West University will be hosting a SETH Open day on the 21st of May 2016 at the
Engineering Faculty. Grade 7-learners, who obtain an average of 80% and a Mathematics
mark of 80%, are cordially invited to attend the Open day on invitation. Please phone Ms
Suzette du Toit urgently to arrange for an invitation.
SCHOOL UNIFORM
Upon request of numerous parents, the SGB has approved AK Sports and Leisure, as a codistributor of our school wear. It will take some time for them to have stock of all the items,
but they have promised to expedite the order of boys' and girls' shirts to alleviate the current
crisis with the school shirts. If your child needs a shirt within the next few weeks, he or she
can obtain a shirt (stock from Fertique) from the school. Please phone Ms Ina van Jaarsveld
in this regard. Used school wear items e.g. jerseys can also be obtained from Ms van
Jaarsveld for learners in need.
IN CONCLUSION
As surely as the season is edging towards winter, so the June exams are creeping ever
closer. We hope and trust that every Ferdie learner will prepare thoroughly for this important
assessment. We wish you all the best in writing your exams, and remind you that the
sweetest fruit can be harvested after enduring hard and bitter labour!
Warm Ferdie regards
