Design Strategy
The FAPA System is designed based on NFPA72 & in accordance with IS:
2189.
The system is integrated FAPA, in which the expected product selection should
be UL Listed & FM Approved.
Within the development, there will be 02nos. of towers along with the common
area car-parking spread-out surrounding these 02 towers at Basement/Ground
levels.
For every tower, there will be 01nos. Main Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP)
located at Ground level/Basement Level within the Fire Alarm Control Panel
(FACP) Room.
Considering FACP Room will be manned for 24x7, Repeater Panel of another
tower shall be also placed along with the Main FACP, within the FACP Room
for the continuous surveillance.
The necessary integration between the towers Main FACP, repeater panels
shall be done with peer-to-peer configuration (for the seamless integration).
The designed FAPA System shall have provision to be integrated with the BMS.
To get the seamless integration of FAS, the selected makes for FAS shall be of

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.05 Installation contractor shall be licensed for the installation of fire alarm
systems in the State, Province, or Country of project. Installation
contractor shall also be licensed for any additional licenses that the AHJ
may require.
1.06 Authorized installer for product supplied. Authorization letter from
manufacturer required upon request.
SCOPE OF WORK:
1.07 Work shall be the installation of new combined fire alarm and mass
notification system for a new installation or replacement of the buildings
existing fire alarm and detection and/or mass notification system.

PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 General:
a.
The main control panel or remote control panel(s) shall be multi-processor
based systems suitable for stand-alone or networked applications. They
shall be designed specifically to provide Fire Detection, Fire suppression,
Mass notification and emergency audio communications functions either as
specialized or in combination fashion.
b.
The control panel(s) shall include all required hardware, software and site
specific system programming to provide a complete and operational system.
The control panel(s) shall be designed such that interactions between any
applications can be configured, and modified using software provided by a
single supplier. The control panel operational priority shall assure that life
safety takes precedence among the activities coordinated by the control
panel.

7. The display shall be a graphical backlit LCD with a
resolution of 320x240 pixels or better.
2.03
System Software
A. All necessary software to form a complete operating system as described in
this specification shall be provided.
B. The software programs specified in this section shall be provided as an
integral part of the unit and shall not be dependent upon any higher level
computer for execution.
C. Status Change Report: All alarm or point change reports shall include the
point's English language description, and the time and date of occurrence.
D. Report Routing: Alarm reports shall be archived for future recall.
E. Alarm Messages: In addition to the point's description and the time and
date, the user shall be able to print, display or store a custom alarm
message to more fully describe the alarm condition or direct operator
response.
F. Each control unit shall be capable of storing a library of at least 12000
events. The event log shall have the ability to be printed via a printer port
built-into the FACP.
G. The FACP shall have a Built in printer port which allows the internal
software the ability to print the following reports:
i. System event log
ii. Sensitivity for all devices etc.
H. Alarm Verification: The alarm verification feature shall be used to delay
acceptance of alarms until they can be confirmed, and shall meet all
applicable code requirements and standards. Any or all circuits may be
selected for verification through field configuration, which shall be done
without removal of an EPROM.
I. Field Configurable: The system shall be fully configurable and expandable
at the owner's site without the need for EPROM programmers. All
configurations shall be accomplished through downloading of programs
from a computer. Reconfiguration shall not require knowledge of any
programming languages or require any special training. All programs shall

Networking
A. The control panel shall have provision for the installation of the Mircom
network interface card. This shall enable up to 63 control panels to work
together in a peer to peer high speed network. Using the recommended
wiring, the network shall work with distances of up to 4000ft between
control panels.
B. Network wide worst case delay from alarm event detection to annunciation
shall be less than 10 seconds as per UL 864 Rev 9.Connection between
panels must be performed with a single pair and all system data and audio
signals (including from Fire-phones) shall be sent over it.
C. Overall connection between panels must be selectable to be open ended
(class B) or looped back (class A).
D. Where loop connection is selected for the network, a single short, open or
ground fault shall be detected but shall not affect system operation. When
multiple wiring faults result in isolation of sections of the network, each
individual section shall continue to operate normally without compromising
alarm detection and annunciation in the related zones.
2.05
Sequence of Operation
A. A. When a fire alarm condition is detected by one of the system initiating
devices, the following shall occur:
a. All automatic programs assigned to the alarm point shall be executed
and the associated indicating devices and relays activated.
b. The System Alarm on appropriate unit will indicate an alert condition.
c. The corresponding zone(s) in alert alarm will be indicated
d. Activate all control by event functions related to the alarm
e. Fan systems, i.e., shutdown, exhaust and pressurization operations to
be initiated.
f. Doors with hold open devices shall be signaled to release
B. When a trouble condition is detected by one of the system initiating or
indicating circuits, the following functions shall immediately occur:
a. System Trouble will be indicted on the unit and system annunciator(s).
b. A local trouble-sounding device in the unit and annunciator shall be
activated. This sound shall be distinct from the alarm sound.
c. The trouble for the corresponding initiating or indicating circuit shall be
indicated on the unit.

The control panel shall have one SLC interface board supporting up to 99
addressable fire detection devices and 99 addressable input or output
modules

The analog interface board shall receive analog information from all
intelligent detectors and shall process this information to determine
normal, alarm, supervisory or trouble conditions. The analog information
may also be used for automatic test and determination of maintenance
requirements.
F.
It shall be possible to display on the control unit LCD display, the current
analog value of any addressable device, as well as the programmed trip
points.
Control Panel
A. The CPU shall communicate with the operator interface, LCD display, LED
display and control all other modules in the unit. Removal, disconnection or
failure of any control unit module shall be detected and reported by the
Central Processing Unit.
B. The CPU shall contain and execute all control-by-event programs for
specific action to be taken if a fire situation is detected in the system. Such
control-by-event programs shall be held in non-volatile programmable
memory, and shall not be lost even if system primary and secondary power
failure occurs. The CPU shall also provide a real time clock for time
annotation on the display and remoteoptional printer.
C. The real time operating system shall be suitable for embedded applications
and shall enable fast response to system events.
D. The system shall provide a non-volatile real-time clock with a precision
better than 2 minutes per year.
E. System configuration and firmware upgrades shall be performed through a
single location even for networked systems.

2.08
Notification Circuits
A. The Control Unit shall provide at least 4 fully supervised Class B/Class A
notification circuits. The notification circuit capacity shall be 1.7amperes
maximum per circuit. If a short circuit trouble occurs on one of the
notification circuits it will not affect the operation of the remaining circuits.

System Relays
A. The control panel shall provide three dry contacts for the reporting of
common trouble, common alarm and common supervisory conditions.
B. Dry contacts shall provide form C (SPDT) connection and be rated at
1A at 24VDC

Operator Display
A. The operator display shall provide all controls and indicators used by the
system operator. The display shall contain, and display, as needed,
custom alphanumeric message for all intelligent detectors and
addressable modules. Such message information shall be stored in
programmable non-volatile memory.
B. The display board shall provide Large 80-character alphanumeric Liquid
Crystal Display (LCD). It shall also provide programmable 16 Light
Emitting Diodes (LED's) for zone alarm, trouble condition,supervisory
condition,bypass indications and a further it should provide separate
scroll buttons for alarm queue, supervisory queue, Trouble queue &
monitor queue keys.
C. Operator Interface unit shall provide Indications for AC POWER.CPU
FAIL & GROUND FAULT INDICATIONS Moreover system should
provide Min.of 8 programmable Hot Key switches With LED's for system
indication
such
as
TROUBLE
ACKNOWLEDGE;
ALARM
ACKNOWLEDGE and SIGNAL SILENCE,FIRE DRILL & GENERAL
ALARM.
D. Factory programmable system indications and keys shall be available for
unique functions. Keys shall be referred to as "Hot Keys".
E. The operator display shall provide a 4-directional selection keypad with
control capability to command all system functions, and entry any
information. The keypad shall include means to enter a minimum of two
different passwords to prevent unauthorized manual control.
F. Conventional LED lamp indication shall be provided for all zones.
Separate alarm, supervisory and trouble, indication shall be available on
a per zone basis. Operator intervention shall not be required for display

Walk Test
The system shall be capable of being tested by one person by

Communication Ports
The system shall provide the following interfaces:
i. The system shall provide a RS 232C port for a printer. A
configurable supervision option shall allow the supervision of
the device connected to this port using the robust XON
handshake mechanism.
ii. The system shall provide an Ethernet Port through a
standard RJ-45 receptacle. It shall provision to connection to
a WAN using TCP/IP protocol.
iii. The system shall provide a RS 485 port for interfacing FACP
accessories.
Power Supply

A.
Main Input:
The control panel power supply shall be operable at 120VAC 60Hz
220VAC 50Hz 3-wire (hot, neutral, ground). The power supply shall
have over-current protection. The quality of the AC power shall be
monitored by the control panel. There shall be an automatic transfer of
power to the back-up power source when AC voltage falls under a level
where panel performance is compromised.

Isolator Module
Isolator modules shall be provided to automatically isolate wire-to-wire
short circuits on an SLC Class A or Class B branch. The isolator module
shall limit the number of modules or detectors that may be rendered
inoperative by a short circuit fault on the SLC loop segment or branch. At
least one isolator module shall be provided for each floor or protected
zone of the building.If a wire-to-wire short occurs, the isolator module shall
automatically open-circuit (disconnect) the SLC. When the short circuit
condition is corrected, the isolator module shall automatically reconnect
the isolated section.
The isolator module shall not require address-setting, and its operations
shall be totally automatic. It shall not be necessary to replace or reset an
isolator module after its normal operation.
The isolator module shall provide a single LED that shall flash to indicate
that the isolator is operational and shall illuminate steadily to indicate that
a short circuit condition has been detected and isolated.

ENCLOSURES:
The enclosures back-boxes and doors must be made of heavy gauge steel. They
must be suitable for flush or surface mounting. All enclosures doors must be
equipped with a key lock. On all enclosures where user access is allowed, a
dead-front cover must be used for protection.
2.18 PRINTER:
A printer shall be provided to record events and status logging. It shall be a dot
matrix type with continuous tractor feed and internal menu driven program. It
shall be provided with a RS-232C serial interface suitable for 9600bps data rate
.

Operator interface:
2.14.1 The operator interface shall manage and configure the different screen
(window) layouts for the operator System Control to be display
simultaneously on the screen.
2.14.2 The operator interface shall provide support for dual monitor mode.
2.14.3 It shall be possible to assign layouts to access groups so that they load
when a user from that access group logs in.
2.14.4 User authentication shall be provided using access groups with defined
permissions and with support of multiple user accounts per access
group.

2.14.5 All events shall be display in the order of priority and remain until they
are acknowledged.
2.14.6 Each event and notification shall be color-coded.
2.14.7 The event type, description, location, date and time and count
information shall be displayed for each event in columns on each tab.
2.14.8 Once the event has been acknowledged, a visual indicator showing
the event has been acknowledged shall be presented to the operator
and logged to the database.
2.14.9 The Current Events tab shall display all of the events that have taken
place in the system up to a maximum of 1,000 events.
2.14.10 All other events shall be stored in the database and accessible via a
separate event log window.
2.14.11 The following colour Coding of events and notifications shall be used
Red Mass Notification or Fire Alarms.
Orange Supervisory or Security Alarm
Yellow Troubles
Blue Monitor Points or Security Points
Green Restored to normal.

System Features :
a. The system program shall have a minimum of 100 system definable
bypass Groups to facilitate the testing of installed system based on the
physical layout of the system. Bypass groups that disable entire
circuits serving multiple floors or fire zones shall not be considered as
equivalent.
b. The system shall provide system reports that list a detailed description
of the status of system parameters for corrective action or for
preventive maintenance. Reports shall be displayed on the operator
interface or be capable of being sent to a printer.
c. System should support up to 63 nodes with a capacity for over 3000
I/O points per node, supporting over 200,000 on a single network.
d. Intelligent devices address shall be established using rotary dial
switch. By passing devices shall not affect other components or
system operations.
e. Intelligent devices shall be dynamically supervised (continuously) by
the control unit for internal and/or external trouble conditions.
f. System control unit processor and software shall be independently
supervised and arranged to insure trouble indication in event of failure.
g. Intelligent/analog initiating devices sensitivity adjustment and
measurement shall be achieved via the system configuration utility.
The control panel shall provide drift compensation capability for
devices permitting it.
h. Alphanumeric annunciator(s) and remote printer (upon request) shall
list:
i. Alarms, Troubles & other events (time, date, location).
j. The main control panel shall have a display of 80 character
expandable to 24 lines by 40 character using a graphic LCD which is
backlit when active.
k. System programming shall include the capacity for time related
functions.

The system shall be capable of being tested by one person by enabling the
walk-test mode. Activating the walk-test mode shall:
a. Bypass central station connection.
b. Bypass control functions.
c. Cause a trouble condition at the control panel.
d. Reset the panel automatically after signalling is complete.

Trouble condition:
a. If a trouble condition occurs, the system trouble visual and audible
(buzzer) indicators shall be energized (flashing mode).
b. Source of the trouble shall be displayed on all annunciators using the
configured alphanumeric trouble message.
c. In case the fault affects the display itself, a common trouble LED shall
be provided as well.
d. The trouble relay contacts shall change state (applicable modules).
e. Remote trouble indicators and monitoring stations shall receive a
trouble signal.
f. Trouble conditions shall include:

PART 4 EXECUTION
SYSTEM ARRANGEMENT:

Project Engineering
a. System arrangement shall be consistent with the component locations
and riser diagram shown on the drawings.
b. Precise as-built mark-ups (illustrating actual field wiring arrangements,
device addresses and control panel configurations) shall be submitted
to the Engineer.

INSTALLATION:
General:
a. The Installation Sub-Contractor shall possess a State, District, or Country
license for the installation and testing of alarm systems in the location
matching the address of the project installation.
b. All existing components that are necessary to properly interface with the
existing system, but are incompatible with the above requirements, shall be
replaced.
4.03
General Wiring:

a. Wiring for the system shall be installed according to National and local
jurisdiction requirements, whichever applies.
b. Wire type shall meet requirements of IS code. Conductor size shall be
calculated according to load and line length as per the Main equipment
manufacturers recommendation &tables provided by them found for
each circuit type. Minimum wire size shall be either the calculated
values or the minimum size acceptable by the AHJ.
c. Shielded wire shall only be used where recommended.
d. Twisted pairs shall be used where recommended.

Junction Boxes:
All junction boxes associated with the fire alarm system shall be sprayed RED
and labelled FIRE ALARM.
PROGRAMMING & MAINTENANCE:
General:
a. Programming of the system shall be executed by an authorized
technician.
b. Update software to latest available version at project completion and
install and program software upgrades that become available at any
time during guarantee period.
Operation:
a. The system shall be expandable and reprogrammable at any time up
to systems maximum capacity.
b. Operating system shall be field programmable for program changes
and shall not require any factory modifications.
c. Each addressable device shall be uniquely identified by an address
code (Owner selected) entered at time of installation.
Supervision:
a. Provide on-site observation throughout the system construction
period, lending all guidance necessary to insure proper installation.
b. Perform the prescribed systems demonstration and instruction.
c. Provide as-built drawings.

Warranty
The FACP & Detection Devices/Modules shall have a 1 year manufacturers
warranty against product defects. This warranty shall be for material only.
Installation and labor shall be warranted for a period of 1 year or as indicated
elsewhere in this specification. Manufactures that do not provide a standard 2year warranty, must provide an extended warranty with their bid package.
