After many years (26 years later), Indian Army dogs are now back to participate in the Republic Day
Parade 2016 at the Rajpath. Around 36 Indian Army dogs including 24 Labradors and 12 German Shepherds is
taking part in the parade. They were practicing since last four months and three times a day for better
performance.
The timing of republic day parade in 2016 has been reduced by at least 15 minutes by the government.
There is plan to perform 90-minute parade in 2016 instead of two hours by cutting down some marching
military contingents and number of tableaux.
It commences from the fate of Rashtrapati Bahvan Raisina Hill on Rajpath past the India Gate.
The parade showcases Indias Defence Capability, Cultural and Social Heritage.
Beating Retreat:
It is performed by the bands of the three wings of the military, the Indian Army, Indian Navy and
Indian Air Force.
The venue is Raisina Hill and an adjacent square, Vijay Chowk, flanked by the North and South block
of the Rashtrapati Bhavan (Presidents Palace) towards the end of Rajpath.
When the President arrives, the PBG commander asks the unit to give the National Salute, which is
followed by the playing of the Indian National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana, by the Army.
