KREBS Cyclones & millMAX

Pumps for Aggregates

KREBS gMAX Cyclones

Providing Superior Performance
The new gMAX Cyclone
provides a substantially finer
separation than standard
cyclones.
It also improves sand recovery
and lowers capital costs by using
fewer, larger diameter cyclones.
The involute feed offers several
benefits to the producer:

Less turbulence and related

wear

Higher capacity

Pre-classification and
increased efficiency

Traditional Cone Angle

gMAX Cone Angle

CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics)

technology and installation data worldwide
prove that the patented gMAX cone angle
combination provides the best (finest and
sharpest) separation available. The result
is higher recovery of fine material. In other
cases, it means the removal of more
material from waste streams. Keeping
fines out of waste ponds increases pond
capacity, and reduces expensive and time
consuming pond cleaning activities.

Krebs millMAX Pumps

Krebs millMAX Pumps treat the cause of pump wear and loss of efficiency, whereas competitive pumps treat the
symptoms through materials or predictive uneven wear rates.

Heart of the Design

Tight clearances at the

wear ring prevents suctionside recirculation.

The patented on-line suction side clearance adjustment

permits the initial clearances to be maintained throughout the
life of the pump. This extends the life of the impeller and
suction wear faces to near, or equal that of the casing, for a
one time maintenance rebuild.

millMAX
Patented Hybrid
Suction Sealing
System

With the millMAX Hybrid

Suction Sealing System,
the front clearance is
adjusted in 5 minutes
while the pump is running.

The millMAX Pump features a patented on-line wear

clearance adjustment, which minimizes the cost-per-ton
pumped compared to conventional hard metal and rubber
lined slurry pumps through:

Increased wear life

Even wear life of all wet end parts
Higher sustained suction capabilities
for dredging at higher solids density
Low profile powerframe ideal for
dredge pump well installations
Less down time
Lower power consumption

Tight clearances at backliner ensures that shaft

sealing system works well.

High performance centrifugal gland seal.

Eliminates gland water

Zero leakage when operating
Extends bearing life

Wide clearances at expelling vanes prevents large

solids from being crushed.

The reduction of solids

grinding between the impeller
and suction side decreases
power consumption and
wear. The millMAX Hybrid
Suction Sealing System
maintains constant flow and
pressure without increasing
speed or the danger of motor
overload.

Conventional Slurry Pump Design

Complicated suction side clearance adjustment requires

the pump to be shut down to make impeller adjustments.

Slurry recirculates between the impeller and suction

side, resulting in coarser solids grinding between the
two surfaces. It results in excessive impeller and suction
side wear and higher power consumption.

Applications - gMAX Cyclones

Sand or Fines Recovery

Applications
The most common cyclone application
in an aggregate plant is recovery of
salable sand from a waste stream.
Often there is a great deal of sand in a
classifier or sand screw overflow
stream that can be recovered and
added to the product. Normally an
elastomer lined cyclone is used to
recover the sand. The sand screw
overflow reports to a sump/pump and
is fed to a cyclone. The cyclone
underflow contains the sand and
normally is returned back to the sand
screw, usually about of the way up
the screw. Alternatively, it can be
stacked as a fine sand product. The
overflow typically reports to the waste
pond.
The optimum cyclone size for this
application depends upon the flow

rate and the type of sand that is to be

recovered. If too large a cyclone is
used, some coarse sand will be lost to
the overflow. If too small a cyclone is
used, the product may have too much
fine material to be within specification. Krebs Engineers or one of our
local sales representatives can assist
you with the correct equipment
selection.
The Krebs CycloStack is used if the
underflow sand is to be stacked on
the ground or directed to a conveyor
belt. By using a controlled siphon, the
CycloStack maintains a high
underflow density even at low feed
densities. It is often used when the
underflow is returned to the sand
screw; this ensures that a dilute
underflow does not wash the sand
down the drainage deck of the sand
screw.

Classification / Desliming Applications

Elastomer lined and all-urethane cyclones
are used for a variety of desliming and
classification applications. In many
flowsheets, multiple stages of cyclones are
used to produce and accurately size
products. Achieving the optimum separation requires careful selection of the
cyclones.

Clay Processing
In kaolin clay plants, up to five stages of
cyclones are used to produce a high quality
product. The cyclones are only used for
classification and not for dewatering.
Normally, very small diameter cyclones (0.5
to 2.0 inch diameter) are required to
produce the final product. Special manifolds have been designed to economically
arrange large numbers of small cyclones.

millMAX Pumps
Dredge Pumps
The patented suction side sealing
dramatically improves suction
performance of the pump. This
produces higher density feed solids
and higher production. The easy-toadjust wear ring (during operation)
keeps the suction performance
constant.

Krebs Cyclone Options For The

Sand and Gravel Industry
CycloStack
The Krebs CycloStack is designed for use in solids dewatering applications, and
can be attached to the bottom of a standard Krebs Cyclone to minimize the
moisture content in the cyclone underflow. The attachment provides for a low
cost way of automatically controlling the dewatering and discharge concentration of the cyclone underflow, allowing direct discharge of the underflow onto a
conveyor belt or in a pile. This occurs even with fluctuating feed conditions.
Krebs cyclones with the CycloStack attachment can be used alone or in
combination with:
Screens and Sand Screw Classifiers
Hydrosizers
Gravity Settlers

CycloWash
The Krebs CycloWash is a patented elutriation device which markedly improves
the desliming performance of the Krebs Cyclone. The CycloWash permits the
injection of elutriation water above the apex assembly so that fine particles
entrained in the underflow stream are displaced and discharged with the cyclone
overflow.

Washing of sands for separation of soluble values or contaminants such as in soil

remediation applications.
Desliming in mineral processing applications including desliming prior to gravity
concentration devices such as spiral concentrators.
Produce extra clean sand product in a single stage circuit.
