Flower Crochet Cardi Pattern (Child Size 4‐5) 

Yarn: TLC Amore in Chocolate (Category 4—worsted weight) 

Hook: I‐9 

BACK 

1. Chain 44. 
2. Double Crochet in 3rd chain from hook. (DC in next chain stitch) repeat to end (42 DC). 
3. Chain 2 (counts as 1st DC); turn. DC in next DC and each DC across (42 DC). 
4. Repeat Row 3 until garment measures 10 ½ inches. 

SLEEVES 

5. (Left Sleeve) Continue working from top edge of back and chain 34. Turn. Double Crochet in 3rd 
chain from hook. (DC in next chain stitch) repeat to end across the back (74 DC). 
6. (Right Sleeve) Chain 34. Turn. Double Crochet in 3rd chain from hook. (DC in next chain stitch) 
repeat to end across the back (106 DC). 
7. Chain 2 (counts as 1st DC); turn. DC in next DC and each DC across (106 DC). 
8. Repeat Row 7 until sleeves measure 6 inches (about 10 rows). 

NECK 

9. Chain 2; turn. DC in first 45 DC (sleeve length plus 13 DC in back). Slip stitch in next 16 DC. DC in 
remaining 45 DC and continue working DC on RIGHT SLEEVE two more rows for shoulder (45 
DC). 

RIGHT FRONT 
 10. On third row, chain 17 at neck for front facing ; turn. Double Crochet in 3rd chain from hook. DC 
in each DC to end (60 DC). 
11. Chain 2 (counts as 1st DC); turn. DC in next DC and each DC across (60 DC). 
12. Repeat Row 11 six more inches (about 9 rows) to finish RIGHT SLEEVE (60 DC). Finish at sleeve 
end. 
13. Slip stitch 32 stitches along sleeve bottom to body and DC in each DC to end. (28 DC) 
14. Chain 2 (counts as 1st DC); turn. DC in each DC across (28 DC). 
15. Repeat Row 14 until front measures 10 ½ inches from bottom of sleeve, equal with the back. 
16. Fasten off. 

LEFT FRONT 

17. Starting at LEFT SLEEVE end, attach yarn with a slip stitch, chain two (counts as first DC) and DC 
in next 44 DC. 
18. Chain 2 (counts as 1st DC); turn. DC in each DC across (45 DC). 
19. Repeat Row 17. Chain 17 to form facing. Turn and DC in 3rd chain from hook. (DC in next DC) and 
repeat to end. 
20. Chain 2 (counts as 1st DC); turn. DC in each DC across (60 DC). 
21. Repeat Row 11 six more inches (about 9 rows) to finish LEFT SLEEVE (60 DC). Finish at sleeve 
end. 
22. Slip stitch 32 stitches along sleeve bottom to body and DC in each DC to end. (28 DC) 
23. Chain 2 (counts as 1st DC); turn. DC in each DC across (28 DC).

FINISHING 

Stitch side seams. Weave in ends. 

Tie (Make four):  Chain 34; Turn. SC in 2nd chain from hook. (SC in next chain) and repeat to the end (32 
SC). Fasten off with long tail. Weave in short end, saving long tail for sewing to sweater. 

Attach ties: sew two on left facing end and two on right body to fasten (see photo). 

Sew on snap to fasten right facing inside. 

Sew on felted crochet flowers as desired: 3 on right shoulder; 1 on back right shoulder, 1 on left bottom 
of sleeve.

FELTED FLOWERS 

Materials: 

 1 skein Moda Dea Cartwheel yarn (or some other 100% wool  worsted weight yarn suitable for 
felting) 
 Size 7/10 hook 

This pattern is based on a CrochetToday pattern from the premiere, Aug/Sept 2006 issue. It creates a 
very large felted flower. I have modified it to create medium‐ and small‐sized flowers. 

MEDIUM‐SIZED FLOWER (THREE ROWS OF PETALS) 

FOUNDATION RING:   

Chain 3, join chain with a slip stitch to form a ring. 

Round 1:  Chain 3 (counts as one double crochet),  work 14 double crochet in ring, join round with a slip 
stitch in 3rd chain of beginning chain‐3. (15 double crochet) 

Round 2: Chain 6 (counts as one double crochet and chain 3), skip next stitch, *double crochet in next 
double crochet, chain 3, skip next double crochet; repeat from * 5 times more, join round with a slip 
stitch in 3rd chain of beginning chain‐6. (7 chain‐3 loops) 

Round 3: (this is the back row of petals) *Work (single crochet, half double crochet, 3 double crochet, 
half double crochet, single crochet) in next chain‐3 loop; repeat from * around, join round with a slip 
stitch in first single crochet.  Fasten off (or not—see below!) (7 petals) 

[Most patterns would fasten off at this point and then join the yarn in a skipped double crochet of round 
2. Instead I use a couple slip stitches to work down to a Round two skipped double crochet and continue 
working. It’s quicker and avoids yet another tedious weaving in of a loose end!] 

Round 4: (this is the center row of petals) Working off a round two skipped double crochet, chain 3, *slip 
stitch in next skipped double crochet, chain 3; repeat from * 5 more times, join round with a slip stitch in 
firs slip stitch. 7 chain‐3 loops. 
Round 5: *Work (single crochet, half double crochet, 3 double crochet, half double crochet, single 
crochet) in next chain‐3 loop; repeat from * around in each chain‐3 loop, join round with a slip stitch in 
first single crochet. Fasten off (or not—see below!) (7 petals on center row)

SMALL SIZED FLOWER (TWO ROWS OF PETALS) 

FOUNDATION RING:   

Chain 3, join chain with a slip stitch to form a ring. 

Round 1:  Chain 3 (counts as one double crochet),  work 10 double crochet in ring, join round with a slip 
stitch in 3rd chain of beginning chain‐3. (10 double crochet)

Finishing: Weave in all ends 
Felting: Place the flower (or flowers) in a pillowcase cover (use zippered cover or close with a rubber 
band). Fill washing machine to low water setting at a hot temperature. Add about a tablespoon of a 
detergent such as Woolite and the pillow case. Put on gentle wash cycle. (I use the hot/cold setting). 
When cycle is complete check the flower. If it is too large put through a second cycle. (I typically like the 
results I get from two cycles). Remove flower(s). Form flower into shape and allow to air dry.
