Introduction
A social network is a social structure made up of a set of actors (such as individuals or organizations) that
are related according to some criterion (professional relationship, friendship, kinship, etc.). Usually they
represented as nodes symbolizing the actors and relationships as lines connecting them. The type of
connection representable in a social network is a dyadic interpersonal relationship or tie.
Research has shown that social networks are useful representations on many levels, from family
relationships to relationships of organizations at the state level (one speaks in this case of political
networks), playing a critical role in determining the political agenda and the degree to which individuals or
organizations achieve their objectives or are influenced. The social network can also be used to measure
social capital (ie the value that an individual obtains accessible resources through their social network).

SOCIAL NETWORKS
Social networks are websites that allow people to connect with friends and even make new friends,
virtually, and share content, interact, create communities of similar interests: work, readings, games,
friendship, love relationships, relationships commercial, etc.
The origin of social networks goes back at least to 1995, when Randy Conrads US created the Web site
classmates.com. With this network meant that people could regain or maintain contact with former
classmates, college, university.
In 2002 they began to appear the first Web sites touting networks online circles of friends or relationships
in virtual communities. The popularity of these sites grew rapidly and were refined to shape the space of
social networking sites.
Social networks continue to grow and rapidly gaining in popularity.
In these communities, an initial number of participants send messages to members of their own social
network generally based email- contact inviting them to join the site. New participants repeat the process,
and so grow the total number of members and network links.
In social networking sites it is promoted above all the ability to interact with others, but not known
personally. The system is open and dynamic and is built so that each subscriber to the network provides.
Each new member brings entering the group itself and transforms.
Its boom has produced no more than five years, partly thanks to the advancement of Internet connections
and the increase in the number of people with access to a computer. Hi5, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter
and Orkut are the most popular social networks.

Facebook
Was originally created to encourage university networks; subsequently it expanded to include high school
students, professionals and finally to all potential users of the Internet. Unlike other social networks,
Facebook users can only make public their profiles to other site users. Today who does not have a
Facebook profile? No doubt Facebook is the social network that attracts more users.

Twitter
Encourages the ability to be continuously informed briefly, under the slogan Dilo in 140 characters. What's
going on? It is the question of the social network, which in just a few years went from being one of the
services chosen social networks.

MySpace
Was installed in 2003 and has differentiated itself from other sites because it allows users to customize
their pages. Teenagers were the first to adopt it because it allows them to create their own profiles. It is
especially chosen by musicians and artists and is one of the most recommended sites for professional
relationships in these areas.
Orkut is the social network that promotes Google. It is one of the social networks most used in Spanishspeaking countries, even in countries like Brazil, India and the United States is also well known, especially
in university environments. Any day now with a Gmail account can sign up. However some time it only
came with an invitation from a registered user.

Hi5
Was developed under the slogan Your friends, your world and is ranked as one of the 40 most visited
Internet sites.

Six degrees of separation

The theory of six degrees of separation states that every individual on the planet is connected with the
rest. This relationship is based on a chain of acquaintances that does not exceed 6 people. This
hypothesis has tried to be demonstrated since its inception in the early twentieth century.
The theory says that each individual knows an average of 100 people. If these 100 people spread a
message to everyone you know we can transmit information to 10,000 individuals easily. With the advent
of internet and online social networks the theory of six degrees of separation has regained strength.

Social networking sites are based on links between its users. There are several types of social networks:
1. Generic social networks. They are the most numerous and well known. The most widespread in Spain
are Facebook, Instagram, Google+ and Twitter.

companions or job search. The best known are LinkedIn, Xing and Viadeo.
3. Vertical or thematic social networks. They are based on a particular topic. They can link people with the
same hobby, the same activity or the same role. The most famous are Flickr, Pinterest and YouTube.
