LIBRARY UNIT - TERM 2 2010

Purpose:

The purpose of our library unit is to help students become more familiar with our library
and the tools available to them for aiding in selection of books for information and
enjoyment.
Specific Learning Outcomes (or Learning Intentions)
Students will:

Enhance their knowledge of our school library layout.


Use tools such as our online catalogue and hardcopy to find books.

New Zealand Curriculum: English Level 4

Processes and Strategies: Integrate sources of information, processes, and strategies


confidently to identify, form, and express ideas.

Purposes and Audiences: Show an increasing understanding of how texts are shaped
for different purposes and audiences.

Language Features: Show an increasing understanding of how language features are


used for effect within and across texts.

Resources:

Library assignment worksheets

Preparation/Organisation:

We will begin with a class discussion of criteria for completion of task e.g. no noise as we
are still working in the library.

Each student will be handed a worksheet to complete individually.

Time frame will be set

Students are to work independently with aid from teacher and student librarian if needed.

After Activity:

Class comes together and we will mark work in pairs and groups. This will be followed by
another discussion about any of the discrepancies found across student answers.

Learning Logs:

Students add this activity to their learning logs under English reading.
