Vazhaku in Tamil means Court case or a legal dispute.

Vazhakarutheeswarar means
"the Lord who demolishes cases". Even though its small temple, pilgrims visit it
in large numbers on Mondays/Thurdays. Various kinds of lamps are lit - some wit
h Ghee, some with Oil, some with different kind of wigs made of lotus stem etc w
ith prayers to the lord to resolve their legal problems.This temple is located r
ight inside Kanchipuram and is one of the sacred Shiva temples in the town. Vazh
akarutheeswarar temple is a ancient Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is
located near Kancheepuram in Tamilnadu. Vazhakarutheeswarar temple is a perfect
remedy temple for getting a favorable judgment from all civil and criminal court
cases and to get rid of all kind of litigation or lawsuits.
According to puranas, there was a controversy between devas and sage about postu
lates in Vedams. At that time devas and sages are worshiped Lord Shiva (form of
lingam) in this Temple to know the truth about their controversy. Lord Shiva got
delighted by their worship and appeared in front of devas and sages in this tem
ple and solved the controversy between them. Lord shiva directly appeared and so
lved the problem between devas and sages in this temple. So that it is widely be
lieved worshiping "Vazhakarutheeswarar" will relieve oneself from all the lawsui
ts problems.
