1. INTRODUCTION
This README file contains some information which may be helpful with installation of the program and reading the
Silver e-manual.
Since PCW4 Silver does not yet have all the features we plan on including, we are going to have 2 more updates within
the next year. Please go to our website to keep track of our progress.
www.fiberworks-pcw.com
and click on new stuff or go directly to:

2. NEW STUFF
This disc contains a version of Silver that has network drafting (2 versions) sketchpad with analysis, (but not import yet).
And some internal stuff you won't see. And enhanced Block Substitution.
This disc contains the program and is auxillary files. I a separate folder you will find the designs that are bundled with the
program. It also contains the Silver e-manual in a folder. It is a PDF file.
PDF files need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open. This is a free product from Adobe and you may download it if you do not
already have it on your computer. If you have an older version, try upgrading to the newest one. Go to Section 5 below to
see instructions about Acrobat.

3. INSTALLING PCW4 Silver
If upgrading a previous version of PCW4, you will have a shortcut on the desktop, and it will point to the old version
folder. Since this version will extract to a different folder with a different name, you must make a new shortcut to the new
version (and delete the shortcut to the old version and the old version)
The location of the new version will be
c:\Program Files\Fiberworks.
If this is a new installation, proceed to B. below.

A.

UPDATING PCW4 SILVER.

A1. Unzip the new Silver version and note the path or location of the new version.
Ok the unzipping and close the zip utility.
A2. Right click on the existing desktop shortcut icon for PCW4
A3. Click on properties, then open the shortcut tab
A4. The program name, folder and destination is shown in the field labeled
TARGET.
A4. That field may be c:\PCW4. The new path should be
c:\Program Files\Fiberworks\pcw.exe
Change the path and close the dialog. This will update the shortcut, and you should be all set.

INSTALLATION OF NEW PCW4 FOR WINDOWS 95/98/2000/me/XP

B1b.
B2b.
B3b.

The CD-ROM will automatically open the self extracting Zip file. Just follow
the dialogs.
E-mail installation. Go to the Start Menu and select Find/Folders or Files.
Type in pcw4Silver.exe and let the computer find your file.
An entry or an icon for pcw4Silver.exe will be shown in the window.
Select and open it with a double click.
(Don't click on any icons that are in Documents and settings folder)
B4. The dialog for WinZip Self Extractor appears, telling you that a folder called
C:\Program Files\Fiberworks will
be created, then click Unzip.
C.

CREATING A SHORTCUT ON YOUR DESKTOP

You can create a shortcut either on your desktop or in a folder of your choice. If you put the shortcut icon on your desktop,
its always easily accessible.
C1. Open My Computer and then the C:\Program Files\Fiberworks and open it.
C2. Click once on the PCW icon to highlight it (not open it). The PCW icon has
square and is called pcw or pcw.exe

C3a. Go to File / Create Shortcut in the menu bar. A PCW icon with a small white arrow in the lower left corner
appears.
C4a. Click and drag the PCW shortcut icon to the desktop.
.
IN WINDOWS 98/2000/ME/XP
C3b Go to File / Send to / Desktop as a Shortcut.
C4b. The shortcut will now appear on your desktop called Shortcut to PCW. It is usually under an open window, so look
for it. Rename it to something like PCW4, PCW4S or PCW Silver if you want.
The program is now ready to use. Just doubleclick on the shortcut.
===========================================================
4. E-MANUAL - silver-manual.pdf
The PCW4 Silver e-manual is bundled with the program. Go to
c:\Program Files\Fiberworks\PCW Silver manual
folder and look for the silver-manual.pdf. It is fully interactive with links and bookmarks to let you navigate the entire
document. There is also a table of contents on the last 5 pages that are fully linked.
And it is much prettier than the paper manual, everything is in colour and designed to be easy to read on your screen. You
can set a comfortable
magnification. It is printable, in whole or in sections (you specify) so that if you do want a section to keep as printed hard
copy, you can do so.
To use the manual, double click and Acrobat will automatically open, usually. If it does not, you may not have ever opened
a PDF file on your computer, and therefore the file type is not registered with Windows yet, or you may not have a copy of
Adobe Acrobat Reader on your system. See section 5.

To register the file type, open the Acrobat Reader (Start / Programs / Adobe Acrobat / Reader) Go File / Open. Navigate
to C:\Program Files\Fiberworks\PCW Silver manual folder. Highlight silver-manual.pdf and click Open.

5. ADOBE Acrobat Reader
To download the newest Adobe Acrobat Reader, go to:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/
to have a look at the product and then follow the links to the download page.
Or you may go directly to:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
Once you have the Acrobat reader, you can open PDF files with Acrobat or your browser, by dragging the file to the icon of
the reader or the browser, or by opening the program and dragging the file to the open window, or by using File/Open and
browsing for your file.
For full instructions on using the Acrobat Reader please see the Acrobat Reader Online Guide, READER.PDF which can
be located by using Start / Find / Files and Folders.
When using Acrobat Reader, selecting the Help / Reader Online Guide menu will open READER.PDF automatically.

Have your registration or customer number handy for help by phone, fax or email.
Remember, if you don't tell us, we don't know that you may have a problem. We will probably be able to help.
Have fun designing with Fiberworks PCW. Have fun weaving your designs. Occasionally let us know what you are doing.
We would love to have a picture of your work with a draft.
Perhaps, we can put it up on the web!
===========================================================
7. Uninstalling
You will, of course, never want to uninstall Fiberworks PCW4. However if you were to sell your computer you would not
want to leave old software on it. Especially if selling the computer to another weaver. That would infringe on
the software license. (see below, section 8.)
The only change made to your computer by the program is the creation of a folder which contains the program (pcw.exe),
its help file (pcw.hlp), accessory files (pcw.cnt, pcw.gid), a folder for the the e-manual (silver-manual.pdf), and
another folder with the various designs (*.dtx, *.des, and *.wif) included with the program. No other files are copied to
the hard drive.
To uninstall Fiberworks PCW, simply delete the Fiberworks folder from your C drive, remove any design folders that you
have created, and drag the desktop
shortcut to the recycle bin.
