Thanks to Muhammad
Ali, also known (a.k.a)
Cassius Clay. He became
the world heavyweight
champion for numerous
causes outside the boxing
ring. During Mr. Ali's
liftetime, he spoke out
against racial discrimination and also advocated
to protect the welfare of
children suffering from
conflict, illness, and

disabilities in mobility,
daily tasks, personal care
and safety, communication,

AT in Daily Living & Safety

Digital Literacy
What is digital literacy? How can one get it? When do
we need it? Digital literacy is the ability to understand/
use digital devices and interpret digital content.
Digital literacy is required on a daily basis for tasks
such as communication, work related activities, school
assignments, shopping, travel, recreation. Digital
literacy can fill a communication gap for individuals
with difficulty speaking or articulating words.
Austim Expressed provides specialized training/lessons
to help adolescents to develop their digital literacy/life
skills. They have different modules for understanding
the Internet, safety, daily activities, education, and
professional development.

Global Impact

Global AccessibilityAwareness Day (GAAD)

The virtual world poses barriers for persons with
disabilities just as the physical world does. The fifth
Global Accessbility Awareness Day (GAAD),
celebrated on May 19, 2016. "The purpose of
GAAD is to get people talking, thinking and
learning about digital (web, software, mobile,
etc.) accessibility and users with different
disabilities."
GAAD co-founders, Joe Devon, a web developer,
and Jennison Asuncion, a web accessbility
specialist, conceptualized and promoted this day as
an opportunity to share technology developments,
training, and online forums for assistive technology.
GAAD in-person activities took place in various
cities worldwide. There was also a virtual event
hosted by Tobii Dynavox for advanced windows
control for eyegaze and PEAT (Partnership on
Employment and Accessible Technology)Talks
regarding success of WWW and W4A
Accessiblity Hackathon.
GAAD's Twitter page, @gbla11yday, included
Retweets of winBeta news, "Microsoft highlights
Office 365 accessibility enhancements for the
visually impaired."
