Lesson: The Simple Present Tense
Skills: Listening, reading, speaking, writing.
Materials: computer, wall pictures, the blackboard.
Lesson aims: 1) to learn about the Simple Present Tense
2) to make the difference between Simple Present
and Present Continuous Tense (definition,
structure)
3) to reinforce the use of The Simple Present Tense
4) to use correctly the tenses in sentences
Activity 1
Aims: checking homework
Procedure: Students read their homework.
Interaction: Techer-Students

Activity 2
Aim:- to introduce simple present tense: form, use and spelling
notes
Procedure:1- Teacher writes on the blackboard the three forms: affirmative ,negative,
interrogative and explains when we are add s for the third person singular and that verbs ending
in ch, -sh, -x, -o, -ss add es instead of s alone, to form the third person singular.

Anticipated problems: none
2- Teacher writes on the blackboard the adverbs that Simple Present is often used with:
always, never, often, sometimes, every week and explains the students that Simple Present
expresses habitual, repetitive actions.
Teacher writes on the blackboard a verb and asks the students to conjugate the verb at simple
Present (affirmative, negative, interrogative).

Anticipated problems: Students may have difficulties in
conjugating the verb,
they may not know when we to add s or
-es. Teacher explains by offering examples.

Activity 3
Aims:- to make the difference between Simple Present and
Present Continuous
- define and give the structure of present continuous
- give examples of time adverbs used with these tenses.
Procedure:1- Students are asked to explain when is Present Continuous used and to present the
three forms: affirmative, negative, interrogative and to make a parallel between the two tenses.
Students are also asked to give examples of time adverbs used with these tenses. They do this
task.

Anticipated problems: Students may have difficulties in expressing themselves. Teacher helps
them.
Activity 4
Aims:- to reinforce the use of Present Simple and Present
Continuous
- to develop the Studentss ability to choose the right variant out
of two when it comes to two different tenses.
- to solve the exercises specific to the activity
Procedure:1- The Teacher proposes the Students to identify the right tense that is to be used in
each sentence in exercise 1 from the worksheet, paying attention to the time adverb used. The
Students solve the exercise and one of them reads it. The others correct him/her, if necessary.

Anticipated problems: The students may have problems in
solving the exercise.
The teacher gives information.
Activity 5
Aims: to solve the exercises specific to the activity
Procedure: Students are given two other types of exercises: choose the right form , put the verb
in the brackets in the Present Simple. Students solve the exercises and teacher asks them to
motivate their answer.
Interaction: Teacher-Students
Timing: 8
Anticipated problems: The students may have difficulties in
solving the exercises.
The teacher will gently correct the
mistakes and explain again the points
where they didnt seem to have
understood well.
