Overview of the US History Curriculum:

US History at
Kennewick High follows the curriculum adopted by the Kennewick School
District. This class focuses on US History beginning with the Revolution and
finishing with present events. This class also provides students with the
critical skills needed to make a successful transition from school to
community life. Throughout the course of the year, the students will engage
in activities and instruction designed to determine students vocational
strengths and weaknesses. Students expectations are contingent upon IEP
goals and objectives.

Classroom Expectations: Students will follow KeHS school rules as


well as Behavior Plans identified in the IEP. In the classroom, students will
treat each other and staff with respect.

Responsible Use of Technology: Student acknowledge and agree


by signing this syllabus that they will adhere to following rules regarding

Students will use the internet with teacher permission only.


Students will be not change the wallpaper on computer.
Students will not print without teacher permission.
Students will not change computer settings.
Students must completely log off and shut down computer before
leaving class.
6. Students are only to go to the website directed by their teacher.
Students will be given 1 warning for disregarding these rules. After this, they
will lose computer privileges in the classroom. Consistent issues will result in
further discipline.

Absences/Attendance: Please report all absences to the school


directly. If a student misses more than one day of school please contact the

teacher to obtain work missed, otherwise it will be sent home the next day
when the student returns to school. Late arriving students must be signed in
at the attendance office prior to reporting to the classroom. If you wish to
pick your student up before the end of the school day, you must sign them
out at the attendance office. For safety reasons it is important to follow the
school policies regarding attendance and absences.

Late/Tardy Policy: The behavior of being tardy will not be tolerated in


US History. It is rude and disruptive to walk into class late. Students who are
tardy will be disciplined progressively as follows: 1st tardy=warning, 2nd
tardy= note to principal, 3rd tardy=detention and call home, 4th tardy
detention and call home, 5th tardy= disciplined by principal.

Electronic Device Policy: Cell Phones, IPODs, MP3 players, etc are
not to be used during class time. These items will be confiscated when seen
by the teacher, available for pick up at the end of the day. If there is an
emergency and a parent needs to contact their child please call the school
office or the classroom phone.

Materials Needed for Class:


1. Three Ringed Binder
2. Pen(black, blue ink) or Pencil
3. College Rule Notebook paper

Grading: Students will be graded on academic skills only. Students will


receive a grade on a percentage scale based on points.
A=93-100 A-=90-92

B+= 87-89 B=83-86

B-=82-80

C+= 77-79 C= 73-76

C-= 70-72 D+= 67-69 D= 60-66

F = Below 60
If a student completes an assignment and wants to improve his/her score
they can re-submit a corrected version of the assignment.

Homework: Homework will not be typically assigned. However if work is


not completed in class it will be expected to be completed at home and
turned in the next school day. Late work is not excepted unless the student
brings a note excusing his/her absence.

Communication: Effective and clear communication between school


and home is very important to the success of each student in the US History
Classroom. Please contact me when any questions/concerns arise or if
myself and staff should be aware of any changes regarding your student. I
encourage you to use the PowerSchool System to access your childs grades
and attendance this year. Details on how to access PowerSchool can be
found at the front office.
