MEM575: Group Assignment Industrial Applications of Operations

Management Techniques.
Objective: To expose students to the practical applications of the operations
management techniques taught in class.
Task:
Write a report based on the following task:
Identify two operations management techniques that you have studied in this
course (that is, any two of inventory control (you may want to focus on JIT only,
traditional only, or overall concept), supply chain management, lean manufacturing,
scheduling, total quality management (you may want to focus on individual
concepts only such as Taguchi, Benchmarking, etc. or overall concept), statistical
process control, forecasting, or other techniques) and show (with explanation and
appropriate illustrations (diagrams/photos/figures, etc.)) how they are applied in
practice in a company or industry of your choice. You can get this information from
either an actual company or industry visit (if this is your choice, you will have to
make your own arrangement for the visit) or from the internet or other appropriate
sources (in this case you need to properly acknowledge and cite all the references
that you use in your report). The choice is yours.
Guidelines:
Length of the report: The write-up must be 1800 words 200 words. Please use
Microsoft Words Word Count and show the total number of words at the end of the
write-up. This is equivalent to 4 or 5 pages long (excluding Title Page, Illustrations,
Appendix (if any), etc.). Note that the total number of pages must be 10 or less.
Font: Times New Roman size 12.
Line spacing: One and a half (1) i.e. similar to this document.
Margin: Justified.
Max 5 students in one group.
Please attached the evaluation form along with your report.
Due: Friday of the 14th week before 5 p.m.
