As the Director of Finance and Marketing of my college's orientation camp,
I was responsible in fundraising from various Singapore government
agencies and private sectors. The funding aimed to reduce the 400 participants' camp fee so that the camp will be an inclusive program where all students, regardless of their economic background, can participate. Moreover, I was in charge in marketing the orientation program to potential partners from the private sectors to obtain sponsorship in kind in order to increase the value of the orientation program to college freshmen and to achieve cost efficiencies. After 6 months of many cold calls, applications, negotiations and program adjustment to suit the various benefactors' interests, I was able to secure a funding up to S$18000 from a Singapore government agency. Also, I secured S$200000 sponsorship-in-kind from the private sector. The government funding that I secured helped each participants to save S$40 in fee. On top of that, they received a welcome bag that was valued at S$500 each. The program was a huge success and my team received a request from an American high school to advise the school on revamping its orientation program. As the Vice President of Finance of NOC Alumni Association, my task was to appropriate funds to various activities that are geared to foster professional networks. NOC is NUS' premiere entrepreneurship program with partners from various world-acclaimed universities such as Stanford and New York University in the US, KTH Stockholm in Sweden, Tsinghua and Fudan University in China. At the start of my term, my team planned a lineup of events that will increase the visibility of the association and how it can foster professional network amongst many young entrepreneurs in Singapore. I was in charge of the biggest function, NOC networking cocktail dinner, that was attended by 180 leading and budding Singapore start-ups' founders with Charles Adler, the founder of Kick Starter as the honored guest of the evening. The event went well and I received many compliments from attendees. The event successfully linked up many start up founders with one another so that they can refine their ideas and get help in expanding their business. Moreover, many guests were able to gain important knowledge about crowdfunding from Kick Starters founder to help them in financing their business and ideas. The fund that the association had was well spent and we received a one-time grant from NUS because of the success of the dinner to encourage us to do more to foster professional network amongst young entrepreneurs in Singapore.
