Biola Alumni Composers Honor Society (BACHS) 

 
Calling all Biola University Conservatory of Music alumni composers! 
 
Starting in the Fall of 2010 the New Music Ensemble (NME) will begin to include selected 
works by you, our beloved alumni.  We cordially invite you to submit works for 
consideration for programming.  Submissions will abide by the following regulations: 
 
• Admission into the society is instantaneous, provided you graduated from the Biola 
Conservatory with a degree in music and have a vested interest in composition.   
• The music selected will generally further the mission statement of the NME (to 
promote music that is on the “cutting edge,” or has made a significant contribution 
to expanding performance practices within the current repertoire). 
• Submissions for orchestra and other ensembles will be considered, although 
chamber ensembles (1‐6 performers) will be favored.  
• If a work is not programmed on a given concert, upon receiving permission from the 
composer, it may be held for a possible performance at a later event. 
• Selection of works will depend on quality, style, availability of performers, and 
whether or not they fit the current program. 
• If selected, the composer must agree to be present at the performance. 
• A maximum of 2 works may be submitted in a given year. 
• The Conservatory reserves the right to select as many or as few alumni composers 
within a given year as fits our current program and instrumentation.  Please do not 
consider this as an affront in any way; programming decisions will be made in as 
unbiased a manner as possible. 
• Send the following materials to the address listed below by May14, 2010: 
o A complete score (no parts until requested please) 
o A CD recording of your work (MIDI is acceptable) 
o Current bio or short resume 
o Contact information 
o A signed statement to the effect that, should your work be selected for 
performance, you agree to attend the Fall NME concert. 
o A self‐addressed postage‐paid return envelope (only if you want your 
materials returned to you).
