1. What is a PLN? Why is the careful selection of resources important to establishing your PLN?

A PLN or personal learning network is a tool that uses social media and other technology
to gather, communicate, and work in partnership with professional to produce a community
linked regardless of time zones or locations. Contributing educationalists both globally and local
make inquiries on subjects and provide knowledge of relatable resources. Each individual
professional within the PLN grow into a prospective source of information. The key to careful
selection of resources when establishing ones PLN derives from credibility and verifiable data.
The information received from your sources will reflected on you as well therefore it only helps
to ensure that all resources report factual and true information.
2. What role do Twitter and LinkedIn play as social media tools? How can these channels benefit your
professional development?

Twitter and LinkedIn can serve as the connection between individuals with shared interest in
a specific subject or topic. By examining and studying others educators profile pages you can
evaluate rather if personalities will mess well together in a work setting or not. People are more
are ease to show their true nature within the confines of a social setting then in a professional
setting deeming if a connection with them is viable. This can benefit ones professional
development because they are able to share ideas, and thoughts freely from the comforts of their
choosing. A person is then able to discover topics from multiple perspectives which can facilitate
different learning experiences and new working knowledge or skills.

3. Can a PLN take the place of formal classroom training? Explain your response.

A PLN should not take the place of formal classroom training regardless if it is possible for it
to become a replacement option. Formal training provides learners with the structure and basic
blueprint of any subject matter. Whereas, PLNs can allow individuals to share personal
experiences on the inquired subject matter regardless if gained through educational methods or
not. The PLN benefits learners in connecting knowledge extended during formal training with
knowledge ascertained from comprehensions educators of shared philosophy. And even the most
convincing of instructors can still present false information based on their experience and not
formal training and skills.
