I am a qualified, Canadian teacher at Jakarta Intercultural School in Jakarta, Indonesia who has
been successfully inspiring and educating young minds for 14 years, in several academic areas.
I have previousl y taught in Chi na, Canada, Colombia as well as Pakistan. Through these
various opportunities I have been given a wonderful experience has allowed me to grow, both
professionally and culturally. Throughout my enjoyable overseas career, I have been fortunate
enough to have been working within, and embracing the intricacies of the American, IB and British
Curriculums.
Reflecting upon my experience, I have sharpened the skills pertaining to designing and
implementing any given curriculum, delivering interesting and effective lessons that are real to life
and implement valuable uses for technology, providing effective classroom management
techniques, emphasizing strong values to students such as respect, responsibility, honesty and
community. I have also fine tuned the process of learning from and collaborating with other staff
members and addressing parental needs. Through constant auto-evaluation, I am learning how to
better respond to students needs and continually improve my understanding of the dynamics in
education.
In addition to my professionalism in scholastics, I am the Junior Varsity Girls Basketball Coach, am
involved in the coordination of Grade 10 Service Week and am the teacher representative for the
Surf Club. I have also been one of the teacher representatives for Model United Nations, acted as
a representative for a High School Leadership Group, have been involved in the National Honors
Society and have been a teacher sponsor for the High School Newspaper.
I like to undertake the challenges presented when going into a new cultural environment and
meeting them with enthusiasm, sensitivity and understanding. The exciting opportunity of working
as a teacher in your school will enable me to continue and enhance my life-long process of growing
and learning in a new cultural environment while having the opportunity to work with and enhance
the bright young minds of your school.
I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely,
Matthew MacMillan
