Students Under Pressure

Have you ever felt stress during a final exam when you were at
the school? Or when were you waiting to receive your grades? The
dictionary says that stress is the feeling we have under pressure.
Therefore, The human body under pressure releases cortisol which is a
hormone that regulates the immune system; consequently. Stress puts
your life in danger. Moreover, stress is a serious problem that affects
the performance of students at all educational levels. In order to avoid
putting students under pressure and make aware everyone, we must
understand the effects of stress on students.

Stress in students generates many effects like a refused to learn

and failure in school. Many students with stress usually refuse to learn
and repeat school years because of the stress and frustration.
Recently, studies have discovered that when the human body releases
cortisol the human brain cannot think clearly and forgets things, they
even fail in activities that they know how to do well because of the
stress. For example, when I was in high school in a chemistry class, at
the end of the year in the final test. I cannot answered well the test
because I did not slept well the last night thinking that I will have three

final test the next day. Fortunately, I did not fail the course but when I
receive the grade I felt disappointed. In addition, when I check that I
made silly mistakes on the test I felt frustrated.

Stress affects the

performance of students during test and academic activities.

Another effect of the stress on students is that they drop out of

the school. There are many students who develop the idea that they
are not good students and some of them drop out of the school. In
addition, parents worse the situation when they believe that their
children are not good students and lose the interest to put them in the
school. For example, when I was at the university studying Civil
Engineering some of the students drop out of the major because they
fail calculus and math core class. Despite that I know some of them
and I know that they are good students they felt to much pressure
during the test and this lead them to fail the test and the course. There
were many parents of my classmates that recommended them to drop
out and take other major because of the result of their first semester in
the university. Even that they like de civil engineer they changed the
major.

Finally, one of the worst effects of stress on students is that they

develop psychological illnesses like anxiety and depression. When a
student constantly fail in the school or the university he accumulates

frustration a leads him to damage and worsen his performance in

school. One student under pressure is the perfect formula to develop a
psychological illness like depression. For example, my brother has been
in three different universities because he had too much stress. He
developed depression and he need to go into therapy. Consequently,
he has not finished his university studies. Stress is a serious problem
because could lead student commit suicide.

In conclusion, this topic is importer because students are not

prepared to handle stress and teacher and parents need to solve this.
In my opinion, schools and universities need to revaluate how they are
evaluating and teaching students because all the effects those
students are suffering and this may be putting their lives in danger.
